Title: MARS Camp and MARS Meeting
Description: Read this!

Kimmy - May 5, 2007 01:45 PM (GMT)
Okies, we want a camp. That means booking ahead. That means a meeting. That means fourteen days notice to all. So right now i am thinking monday 11-12 o'clock is the best time since most of the exec seem to come in randomly during that time.

So firstly, I want to know if EXECUTIVE members and any prospective ones can make it then.

secondly, a warning if we host a meeting, due to the limited time frame we will probably be best throw the rest of you lot outs just for convienance sake.

thirdly, MARS camp. Its GETTING done this time, so we want ideas. So far we have a time frame of the last week of the semester break, about 4 days liike thursday-sunday or something similar over that week/weekend.

Where? Up north a few hours, we can hire a house or condo or something?

And I can arrange a 12 seater minibus and driver to get us up and down if need be. Though there will be costs, it will be on a cash only basis and a cheap deal for sure.

General idea - 10-15 members book a house or two or something, pitching in $40 each and we book a house, bus and foods (BYO drinks and snacks) and we have a few days of madness up north with a nice view, games, bbq, drinking, experiments and madness as only MARS can and more. This is of course just what we organised in about an hour today so give us some credit for the sketchy details, but thoughts and ideas please (if you all want to do something else, just say so btw)

Culling - May 6, 2007 04:00 AM (GMT)
Drink drink drink drink drink. Uno!

sounds like fun. will need money and so on but, cool :).

MinionHashOne - May 6, 2007 07:32 AM (GMT)
Count me in. yes yes very much... *hires sniffer dog to find change under bed*

etimodnar - May 6, 2007 07:55 AM (GMT)
given that there seems to be a fair few of us, if there's many people who want/actually can come on a camp, then how about we look into an actual camp facility? There are a few places we could look into. Monday days I can typically do. So that's good for me.

aido727 - May 6, 2007 07:59 AM (GMT)
as for the camping facility, depends whats cheaper and if they will let us be drunk and loud

Kimmy - May 6, 2007 09:52 AM (GMT)
Plus we want proper facilities. I'm the type that enjoys modernised camping. Thats a camp with a house :P

THere are about a dozen people interested in this from the regulars. So We could 15-20 people it seems, at least 10 depennding on availablity. Lets see what we can come up with.

But first things first, tomorrow I will bug our sexatary to call a meeting in 2 weeks time. From there we can list sugestions and check out things so that meeting will finalise things hopefully (or a 2nd meeting will certainly). Also ther will likely be a expenditure of moneys on games once people start confirming their booking and we know if hte camp is a loss or profit.

Also, i might annoy people to run a bbq in the last week. If we can do it, the profits will be good (hint, games + camp will cost like $500 each. The camp will be paid for by people turning up but a BBQ will cover at least half the games. Last er we can do another next semester week 1 and make the rest. thats like 2 days work for games! And its mars work - the lazy kind.).

stawberi - May 6, 2007 09:59 AM (GMT)
Call a meeting on the ghc mailing list then, biatch. :P

Easy to book a few units at a caravan park up north, or maybe a house.

Früchlè - May 6, 2007 12:18 PM (GMT)
I'd like to help, for the organization of events and such at the camp.

stawberi - May 6, 2007 12:25 PM (GMT)
Aw crap... holidays.

A) I have that postgrad business unit to do.
B) I can't get off work.

Sami will still help organise. Now she is off to watch Grey's.

Kimmy - May 6, 2007 03:24 PM (GMT)
We steal Sammy for a couple of days +1 extra night then! Plus your unit will finish and have a exam jsut before we go so *hopefully* we can have a Sami at said camp goodness.

Pleeasseee?

stawberi - May 7, 2007 02:26 AM (GMT)
Exam is 1st August. I wouldst prefer camping camping, honestly. Houses are for lamers, I have tents for a reason!

Kimmy, your need for facilities is prejudiced against roughing it! :P Wuss!

Früchlè - May 7, 2007 02:47 AM (GMT)
my suggestions so far are: to plan for 30+ people, spend money on advertising (ie smsing all members, to get those who don't check forums/not on mailing list/don't come to club room), to be at least 30 mins outside of Perth, someplace where we can have a big-ass fire. Marshmallows!

Camping BAD. (not in general, but for this, IMHO). Rain == the enemy. My preference is for more than camping, less than a challet. Huts and dorms type of thing. Communal hall, preferably attached. Think more high-school camp-like.

stawberi - May 7, 2007 04:50 AM (GMT)
Dorms sounds like a good idea, something like nanga bush camp (where law camp is held)...

And, on the same train of thought, we do need to organise transport for people to get there (ie a bus). If members will be drinking, they don't need their cars, can have two or three organisers with cars for emergencies.

coder928 - May 7, 2007 06:10 AM (GMT)
ive got a lecture monday, can we do 12:30 to 13:30 instead

Kimmy - May 8, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
I have a friend who is a ex tour bus operator, once we can start looking at dates I can arranges a 12 seater mini bus and driver to get us too and from. Though I can get a larger bus if need be.

The meeting is supposed being called for 12-1 or so, though I notice our sexatary hasn't sent out a mailer yet? I'll leave this up for any other can/cant do times and post the mailer tonight.

stawberi - May 8, 2007 03:35 AM (GMT)
At this point you could call a meeting for Mon 28th, but get the secretary onto it already. It's not a valid meeting if you don't have the phantas/ghc mailout... forum can't count as notice.

atomic.bazza - May 9, 2007 06:01 AM (GMT)
all interested parties please say so on the poll

QUOTE (stawberi @ May 7 2007, 12:50 PM)

transport: drinking isn't an issue - ditto transport. Car pool ftw. One of the few things committee people don't have to worry about ;-) People sort themselves out, or whine on phantas :-> Car pooling is cheap, effective, and a lot of people already have cars. Feel free to organize a bus thing for those without car pool options, but I would be hesitant about paying extra (in my mars camp ticket) to support those without the expense of a car to deal with.

events: I would like to run a mini-quiz night if there are enough people attending the camp.

Duration: what duration are we looking at for the camp? My suggestion is to go up Friday night, come back Sunday evening. (two nights & two days). Come back Monday morning as another, longer option. Sat to Sunday is too short IMHO - by the time you get settled, unpack and then repack up, you've lost/wasted a lot of the day(s).

stawberi - May 10, 2007 02:36 AM (GMT)
The car thing is more a liability issue than an issue of supplying transport to those without.

Qbert the II - May 10, 2007 10:25 AM (GMT)
that sounds awesome count me in ^^ willing to help in anyway

MattBowron - June 4, 2007 10:14 AM (GMT)
i have a beach house at pt peron that can house 9, or up to 13-15 if you include the crappy thin extra mattresses. Also there is more than adequate enough tenting room in oval beside beach house rows (is at L & S center, so I'll have to ask the caretaker for permission), and it will have to be after the 15th of June as that's my only exam for this semester. Otherwise, house, tenting facilities, plus beach and not too far from shops, bottle-o and nightclub. I also may be able to get adequate fuel to drive me + 4 others down in my car, I live in Booragoon. Only problem is, is in rockingham, but is away from most bad spots (pt peron is where the road leading to the navy military base extends from), the worst you'd get is a hoon or two driving up the street in the middle of the night. Gimme email if you want.

1&ownly - June 5, 2007 07:02 AM (GMT)
That sounds brilliant.
If people want to head north instead, I would suggest Kalbarri because it has cheap camping, is only 6 hrs from perth, is warmer than perth, but has no tourists at this time of year

just a thought

RDSR - June 5, 2007 07:09 AM (GMT)
Kalbarri is good. Plus i Can show you some places most tourists never go (If i can remember how to get to them) Cause I lived there untill High school.

stawberi - June 5, 2007 08:48 AM (GMT)
PM Kimmy, he's in charge of finding a location/accomodation.

1&ownly - June 10, 2007 04:20 PM (GMT)
*bumps*

do we have a tentative idea on which week to hold this in?
if not, we need a poll

atomic.bazza - June 12, 2007 05:38 AM (GMT)
last i heard it was going to be during the weekend of one of the first weeks back

etimodnar - June 13, 2007 02:41 PM (GMT)
That's the idea.

There's an exec meeting on the 18th June, Monday at 12 if you have problems/suggestions re: camp
