Title: Hi
Description: Please don't hurt me, I'm new.
Charmander - August 24, 2007 12:16 PM (GMT)
Hi there, I'm Laurie. I stumbled upon this site during one of my regular detours from study, deciding that looking up words on the Murdoch search engine would be a better way to spend my time. Anyways your witty acronym of a name seemed to draw me in and well here I am.
I think I might like to join...if you're still recruiting. But I'd like to know a bit more about you guys first. From what I can make out from lurking the forums alone is that you guys are interested in DnD, camping and RPGs.
Any other boardgames you are interested in and what other ways do you spend your time at the MARS meetings?
As for me I am interested in anime, computer games, camp sounds fun and rpgs are cool too.
I also play boardgames and card games, in particular chess, cluedo, atmosphere, cheat, old maid and pokemon (what!? I hate to let all that money spent on 'catchin them all' when I was 10, go to waste -_- )
Well that's about all, oh and does it cost to join? And erm how can I join?
Bye

Jioning is easy - Turn up at the club room with a pen and $5. We give you a form and your in. Ask if ya need directions to findi us.
We flog drinks and candies and foodstuffs cheap too at the room btw.
There are 4 rpgs at the moment, their are a few of them with room for one more certainly.
Games - we have a board games cupboard and its going to get expeanded each year as well (i sooo want to add house on a haunted hill to it!)
We're a crazy bunch of very open lovable (in theory..) people who enjoy new people and company (heck theres even pokemon fans too!)
Welcome & I'll let someone who isnt dizzy sort the rest of those answers.
The RPGs run Wednesday, thursday and friday afternoons (theres even 2 on thursdays) btw.
Wednesday - My game of DND - Poor saps exploring the underdark (Its a evil party to!) My game tends to be chaotic and shows you what happens when the world suddenly takes notice of you, then tries to benifit from you.
Thursdays - Deadlands - Wild west + DnD? Frues the Gm.
- Serenity - Firefly/serenity, Spacey western style mix of desperado fun and a good smattering of coolness added in.
Fridays - Glens DND monsterous party game - If you aint human, your wanted dead by law. Its a simple concept and is hella fun.
btw - I'm a roleplayer, gamer and anime fan. Also a love of everything else too :P

ello ello, yay another video gamer!!! you must come and experience the craziness of our club! it's all in good fun :)
stawberi - August 24, 2007 03:10 PM (GMT)
My favorite point of sale is that we're a ready-made friendship group, comprised of probably around 20-30 active members who hang out in our clubroom from time to time playing games, watching movies/tv, having massages, eating junk food and just talking (generally about geeky stuff).
Most drinks are a dollar (cheapest on campus) and most chocolates/etc are 50c. There is also, at intervals, free kfc/nesquik/etc. And we have a microwave. And couches. And a kitchenette. And a computer with lots of music on it, geeky and otherwise.
We are also tentatively re-establishing a committee for world domination.
The annual five dollar membership fee buys you access to the club resources ie rpg library and games, as well as 10% off at Tactics in the city.

Hi ppl,
I'm also new. I've known about MARS for years [showing my age] but I have never joined because of time contraints. I'm a part-timer [who works full-time] and my current gaming group looks like ending after many many years of gaming history.
Just curious does anyone have open rping over the weekend or Friday nights?
Cheers
Raj

Kim: because we are so cheap there are no writing implements in all of MARS? :-P
Why the heck do you insist on adding an 'e' to my nick? My online nick is "Früchlé", and most just shorten it to "Frü/Fru". Yeesh :-P
=======
Laurie: My best recommendation would be just to rock up (Amenities block 2.045, near the Kulbardi Centre/Student Guild), and hang out for a while, meet people and see if it suits. They're an easy going, friendly bunch, for the most part ;-)
=========
Raj: for weekend stuff, I tend to recommend The Gamers' Guild.
Here is my earlier post about other clubs: scroll down to the 'non-uni- section.

And we do have whiteboard markers. The membership forms have been filled out with worse...
Charisma - August 26, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
I'm sure someone in the room will have a pen if she(?) shows up without one.
Fru: I think Kimmy was doing the anglicised version of the umlaut, yanno? It's what I assumed anyway. If you can't be bothered putting the umlaut on top, just add an e!
Tschues
Brueder
Muenchen
Yes? Maybe it's kinda old-fashioned, I don't see it around much these days. Much like the occasional ss replacement for the ess-zet or however you spell the name for the funky b thing we use...
Okay, rambling. I'll stop now.
Lady D - August 26, 2007 10:48 PM (GMT)
Don't stop rambling Charisma its so interesting!
Howdy there. Lady D here. Resident Text rpger. You want in on text role play? Me and Charis are people to talk to. I don't bite. (at the moment)
MARS is just a heck of a lot of fun. There is a low probability of running into people in there during the morning through. Geeks do not like to get up before lunchtime after all.
cas - August 27, 2007 04:51 AM (GMT)
Raj - I am in a friday night game. Ill be on campus in a week maybe we can meet up and talk about it then.
atomic.bazza - August 27, 2007 01:37 PM (GMT)
the only reason lady isn't biting atm is because she just got braces, don't worry give her a few weeks and she will be biting with the best of them again

I think Kim was just being a tard :-P
I mean, everyone else I have ever met (yourself included) has just used the abreviated form I mention before of "Fru". Let's not give him TOO much credit here :-P
stawberi - August 28, 2007 01:52 AM (GMT)
FruE (lol see what I did thar?), I think you should ease up before calling Kim a tard. It's just a freaking letter, the alphabet has plenty of spares and they would otherwise be going to waste. Now I understand as much as anyone the importance of a name. If you take away someones name, you take away their humanity. But uh... an accidental misspelling (or phonetic typing; Charis is right re: the umlaut) is no reason for name-calling.
Look, sometimes I defend you because in those situations you may be right, but your hostility is getting a bit out of hand. And we're suppose to be charming a newbie here. (Little hint: you're not helping.)

in the words of Kelso: BURN!!
and tee hee, sizers! I was like "do you mean measuring tape?? wtf?"
anyone know how to do the little umlaut thingos?
Charisma - August 28, 2007 09:53 AM (GMT)
...I just use the ASCII code with the alt key ^_^ which is alt + 0235 for ee or for the audacious frue (i used fru earlier because you asked for it, duh) alt + 0252. Got that?
etimodnar - August 28, 2007 02:38 PM (GMT)
Frü
oh it worked! yay!
thank you Charisma

Kimmy - August 29, 2007 02:41 PM (GMT)
Hey, why can't I be personally targeting Frue to be like my new target of personal emotion and stuff? Plus we all know boys hurt those they secretly like dont we?
Now while Frue is shuddering, I'm going to enjoy his pain. ^^
If your going to hate someone for no reason, you may as well be open and honest about it. Then you can enjoy it and everything publicly.
*runs off to pounce new person*

o_O two odd things about that.
1) you were hurt by that?!
2) who hates whom now?
Don't let the girls' overzealous nature here cloud discourse :-P
(btw, if you wish to contract the two separate words "you" and "are" the contraction is "you're". "Your" is an entirely different word entirely.)

Overzealous nature? I would be careful if I were you Fru. You don't want to insult the females of MARS. Think about this carefully.

Yes dear Frü, think carefully. You don't want us to contact the secret society of women and get you blacklisted, do you?

Oh, please :-P
Like in what possible, conceivable way could you NOT be considered 'overzealous'?
(and, if it matters, I was referring to the two who had commented above, not intending 'all girls'. But still, maybe if Naomi had objected, or Christy, but you? Please :-P )
Lady D - August 30, 2007 11:07 PM (GMT)

*shrug* I don't care if you're offended by your nature. All you're doing is proving my case of you being overzealous :-P
(which is about as p.c. as I usually get ;-)

It's not the first time Mars has been accused of being cliquey. But really, I hardly think we're scaring anyone. This isn't all that far off of standard for geek interaction.
