Hey all,

Just thought I'ld share info on 2 pretty decent programs to play BT.

1. Megamek
Website - http://megamek.sourceforge.net
Use the latest dev version as that contains most of the rule sets from the Total Warfare rulings. I usually play this online with my friends. We're using this program for the online campaign.

The latest Megamek version used for this Campaign is 0.33.13.

The following Game Options are to be enabled for all Megamek Campaign games:

Skip ineligible during movememnt
Skip ineligible during firing
Skip ineligible during physical
Allow pushing off the map
1 RNG Type
Teams roll initiative
Ammo & Equipment Limits
Remind on Autosave
Paranoid Autosave
Use maps from subdirectories
Exclusive Double Blind deployment zones
Deep deployment zones
Restrict sensitive commands to non-Observers

Check for victory
1 min conditions to win
Destroy enemy BV
100% of BV to destroy
Outnumber enemy (to be switched off when appropriate)

Commander Killed (Innersphere Bot units must have 1 Commander per 4 to 6 mechs/vehicles - usually the unit(s) with the highest BV; Commander unit to have minimum Gunnery 3 & Piloting 4; PLEASE NOTE: all your mechs/vehicles/etc must have the Command Unit option enabled for this to work)

2. Computer Battletech (aka PCBT)

It was developed around 2000 and it uses the Battletech Master Rules rulings instead. Pretty fun and I've tried it on network.

For those that are interested in joining, post on this site. Owen and I are starting up an informal BT campaign. To allow for network play, please go to http://www.hamachi.cc to download the client. The network name is Battletech Online. PM me or Owen if you want to password. Btw, if you're running the Cisco VPN on campus, we noticed that it doesn't like Hamachi. So you might need the direct IP instead.

To create a unit, you can either get me or someonelse to witness the rolls on megamek. or you can roll it yourself (Honor system).

1. Roll or choose Faction.

2. Roll on 1d100 four times to select 4 mechs. If the total BV is less than 4000BV, please reroll another set of 4.

This is to reflect the randomness of mechs that were often found in mercenary units.

3. Your primary mechcommander will start as at Elite. You also have 1 Veteran and 2 Regular Mechwarriors.

Please note the following for Mechwarriors/Vehicle Crews/Battlearmour/Infantry experience ratings (Gunnery/Piloting):

Green - 5/6
Regular - 4/5
Veteran - 3/4
Elite - 2/3

I haven't worked out the mechanics for awarding experience points to individual pilots yet. so watch this space.

Subject: Mercenary Units TO&E

We have hired the following mercenary units for posting to Outpost on a 18 month contract commencing January 3049:

1. Da Bandit Squadron (JEHT's unit)
2. Wilderness Stompers (Coder's unit)
3. Shadow Strike (Darkmatter's unit)

Detailed TO&E as attached.

They will be contained on the Haparanda Mercenary Reservation with orders to:

1. Coordinate and cooperate with Outpost Command HQ.
2. Train with Outpost People's Militia (currently evaluated at 2 regiments of infantry and 1 regiment of armour).
3. Garrision of Outpost against external threats - namely pirate attacks.
4. A jumpship with appropriate transport will be made available to the mercenaries to commence offensive operations on approved pirate targets in the Periphery.

The mercenary units will be provided a pre-negotiated fee plus:

1. Full transportation support - mercenary units to be transported by FRR jumpship.
2. Full technical support - mercenary units to be repaired and reloaded by Outpost Command.
3. Shared salvage rights - Outpost Command to have 40% of salvage, with remainder to be distributed equally among multiple mercenary units from participating in mission. Outpost Command to have 80% of salvage when single mercenary unit participating in mission. Any additional sellback to be offered to Outpost Command with prices set by FRR Mercenary Relations Department (currently at 10%).
PLEASE NOTE: All salvage is to be calculated as per costing on Megamek (which assumes the unit has a 4/5 pilot).
4. No command rights - mercenary units must action as directed by Outpost Command. Single units may undertake Individual Missions. Perimeters as follows:
a. Unit must field minimum of 1 Lance.
b. Enemy maximum BV to be equal to Unit BV. Enemy Unit to have 2xUnit Mechs/Vehicles/etc.
c. Force game end at 40 turns option must be enabled.
d. Single Unit to gain 10% of salvage, with the other 10% divided among other non-participating units.
e. Mission log to be emailed to jehtbt@yahoo.com.

Mission 1 - February 3049

Da Bandits and Wilderness Stompers were tasked on a routine patrol in Sector Zulu when it came across a lance of pirate mechs backed by 2 lances of infantry. DB and WS lances proceeded to tear into the pirates, causing the destruction of 1 DB mech and 4 pirate mechs.

The DB mech and 3 pirate mechs were salvaged by Outpost Quartermaster Stores with 60% of BV awarded to the mercenary units. DB mech returned to DB - Bandit Queen docked month's pay for getting mech blown up in turn 2. No BV awarded for non-salvageable mech.

Mission 3 - March 3049

Pirate activity has forced Command to deal with the threat which was bigger than anticipated. Da Bandits and Wilderness Stompers were sent to intercept 2 Leopard-class dropships of mechs. In a running battle that lasted the entire day, DB and WS sustained 90% casualties while destroying a pirate force equal to its size.

DB losses include Bandit Queen and Bandit Ace. WS lost all mechs in its command. All mechs have been salvaged with pilots safely recovered, except for Groundwacker Brown's CPLT-C1 Catapult..
