Eragon is a fantasy book about a young farm boy who recieves a dragon, becomes a powerful dragon rider, and fights to free his nation from the king galbatroix and his empire. The actual book, although long at times (600+ pages) is very good, especially at the end. This book is part of a series and there are many important encounters for Eragon and his crew as he travels to meet up with the Varden (the rebellion group fighting against the empire). The book was really good and the end of the book seemed to melt away as I very much enjoyed the author's imagination....
The movie sucks. For some reason, the director chose to cut out important scenes, combine scenes inconsistent with the book, and condense the huge novel into a 90 minute movie. I am surprised the author did not boycott the manner in which they recreated his novel. This movie should have taken at least 2 and 1/2 hours to capture the richness of the story. And what is more disappointing is the actual action was good (especially the scenes flying on the back of the dragon Saphira), the acting not horrible, and the potential limitless. I was severely disappointed with the film and would never suggest it to anyone, especially one who has read the book. 2.1 out of 5.

Very good book indeed. The sequel The Elders is also very good. Now I wish he would hurry up and get to righting the third book so I can finish the series.

The movie is absolutely terrible. I don't even see how they can make the sequel into a movie because they left so many gaping holes that they needed to address in the first to set up the second movie.

I haven't read the book or seen the movie but I will jump in on the hating books turned to movies idea. Especially when they are "kids" movies. I think the producers are saying "Kids don't want to hear a story, kids just want to see Dragons." At least that is what it seems like in the Harry Potter movies. Lets skip any sort of character development and emotion and put in a 20 minute scene about an "age line" surrounding the Goblet of Fire. The best scene in that movie is the Yule Ball scene because they finally start a love story. At least it gives a chance for Hermione, Ron, and Harry to show some emotion. It's like hey! It only took you 3 and a half movies for me to actually start caring about the characters. The adults in that movie do a pretty good job of carrying the load though. And the 5th movie should be MFS. Mother Fucking Sweet. Comes out in July alond with the simpsons movie and the FINAL Harry Potter book. Man, what a month.

One of the best lines in movie history. Harry Potter 2, I think.

"Blimey, Harry's got himself a rogue bludger! That's been tampered with that has!" OK so it doesn't sound that cool but the way it looks when Hagrad says it is hilarious.
