Title: Special Police - SPIRE 13
Description: Action/Adventure/SciFi/Fantasy

Enterprise1701 - April 15, 2008 04:18 AM (GMT)
The idea is to create a fun action-adventure show with a slightly tounge-in-cheek attitude.

The concept being: what if ancient myths were true? What if Victorian-era horror and scifi literature REALLY happened in our world? Who's gonna clean up THAT mess?

Setting

SPIRE (Supernatural and Paranormal Investigations and Response Experts): In 1886, Dr. Jonathan Spurr and his associates founded SPIRE (Supernatural and Paranormal Investigation and Response Experts) in response to a series of vampiric outbursts that they knew the London police would be unable to contain. SPIRE slowly grew in size to 2 groups; 1 in Edinburgh and the other in London. Together, they formed an umbrella shield for England against the bizarre and deadly forces that had previously gone unchecked.

SPIRE expanded exponentially in 1940, when Winston Churchill personally diverted resources to create a counter-force to Nazi Germany’s attempts to control supernatural and paranormal occurrences and beings. 12 Cells were formed around the world.

SPIRE consists of independently-operating squads which are provided funding by SPIRE 0 (HQ), and come into contact with each other rarely. Through a quiet arrangement with the governments of 9 countries around the world, SPIRE will be allowed to operate covertly and the governments will just look the other way. However, international and national law still apply to them.

As explained by ________(Current leader of SPIRE)

“After a Zombie attack in New Orleans and an army of Ghost Vikings invading Newfoundland we had to set up shop in North America. Recently, it has come to our attention that dealing with the US Southwest is not practical for either of these teams, so a 13th team has been formed.”

SPIRE Teams:

SPIRE 0 – London, UK
SPIRE 1 – Edinburgh, UK
SPIRE 2 – Braºov, Romania
SPIRE 3 – Cairo, Egypt
SPIRE 4 – Cape Town, South Africa
SPIRE 5 – Moscow, Russia
SPIRE 6 – Hong Kong, China
SPIRE 7 – New Delhi, India
SPIRE 8 – Perth, Austrailia
SPIRE 9 – Cusco, Peru
SPIRE 10 - Cúcuta, Colombia
SPIRE 11 – New Orleans, USA
SPIRE 12 – St. John’s, Canada
SPIRE 13 – Erewon, USA

Erewon, Arizona

A town in the middle of the Arizona desert, Erewon is along Route 66. It is a small town with a population of around 300. Erewon was a mining town back in the 19th century, but is now (thanks to its fortunate location) a highway stop town.

The Strip

The Strip is SPIRE 13’s base of operations. It is a formerly abandoned private airport about 20 miles outside of Erewon. On the surface, it seems to consist of 2 hangars, a small office and a control tower. However, this simple façade hides a small base. Underneath the office, is a small underground base, comprising of a conference room, infirmiary, armory, holding area, research bay and personal quarters for on-base stays. Above ground, one of the hangars is used to house their aircraft, a Beech Starship (Acquired from Mexico and restored, officially it was destroyed in a fire). The other hangar is used as a storehouse for equipment, artifacts and other trinkets.

The story SPIRE 13, of course, focuses on the membership of SPIRE 13.

Characters

Main Cast

Jack Spurlock: A private investigator from Chicago, Spurlock is rather down on his luck (both financially and socially) when he joins SPIRE. He has a dry, sarcastic wit and has a tendency for introspection. Usually wears a blue pinstripe suit with a sharp tie.

Kate Beretta: A former Police officer from Briscoe, Texas. Beretta had experiences with odd events, which led to her eventually quitting the force. Kate is straight-to-the-point, impatient and trigger-happy. Clothed in cowboy-esque garb, right down to the low-slung holsters at her sides.

Nikolai Beletsky: A hacker and computer store clerk, hailing from Bakersfield, California. He managed to find out about SPIRE and hack SPIRE 0’s main server. Due to this, they gave him the choice of joining them or “disappearing”. Beletsky can be a bit of a coward and is socially inept, but he forms strong friendships and is loyal to said friends. Normally seen wearing jeans and a geeky t-shirt.

Charles Briggs: A “young” expert on the paranormal, supernatural and occult, Briggs is actually a 170-year old vampire. He is light-hearted and has a quick, sharp wit. He often speaks in modern-day English, although he will occasionally say something anachronistic. Mostly wears cargo shorts and hawaiian shirts.
