All was quiet in the lab. Machines pulasted with light, but nothing stirred...

Until...

*Whrrrk, thump*

A machine retreated, and a humanoid form dropped to the floor, gasping for air.

"where am I?" the figure said after a while, "Come to think of it, who am I?"

Straightening up, the figure found a computer terminal, and accesed it, wondering how she knew what todo with it.

"Best not to wonder why. Just accept it." she told herself. "What's this?" she wondered, opening a file.

*Subject #005*
"This is probably the final log we will make. We're pretty sure our whereabouts have been leaked, and therefore, no new subjects will be created. Our most succesful one, 005, or 'Kate' as some of the staff are now calling her, could easily be let free now, but we don't want her to be found, and used as evidence. Therefore, the machinery keeping her alive will be hidden, and eventually will turn itself off. It seems a shame to kill her, considering the progress we made with her, but it would be unacceptable to let her be discovered..."

The creature continued reading for a while longer, then turned and walked back to the machine she'd come from. A plaque next to it informed the reader that the occupant was indeed, subject number 005 inhabited it, until recently.

"So... I guess I must be 'Kate' then... subject number 005? I wonder if there are others..." She began searching the room a bit, before catching sight of herself in a mirror, and realizing firstly that she hd no clothes on, and secondly, that she had cat ears and a tail.

"What the heck are these?" she nearly yelled, grabbing an ear. She knew, again without knowing how, that humans didn't have ears like that. Or a tail, for that matter...

"What did they do to me?" she whispered to herself, "What am I?"

She noticed a lengthy piece of material nearby, and made herself a makeshift toga to try and keep her mind of it, although it didn't work too well.

Clothes completed, she practially stumbled across a switch, which pulled back section of wall, revealing...

"Oh god..."

Kate realised, looking at the failed experiments that she was lucky to be as human as she was.

"I have to get out of here... but to where?" she wondered to herself.
