Alliance Space Command
The smallest branch of the Alliance Military, the Space Command is the equivalent of air forces back on Earth. Instead of mobile command centers (i.e., frigates, cruisers, etc.), the ASC (pronounced "ay-ess-see" or "ask") utlizes space stations (however, the one at Arcturus is a naval space station, like a naval port on Earth). The ASC also makes use of long range, Mass Relay and FTL-capable starfighters, unlike the Navy, which only has short range FTL fighters. They also have shuttles, used for short-range transportation (like helicopters; the Navy and Marine Corps also use shuttles) and cargo freighters about the size of merchant ships. The majority of ASC personnel stay on planet-side command posts or space stations.
While the Navy patrols areas and systems, the ASC can send fighters, freighters, or whatever is needed from space stations in Alliance Space without having to send entire fleets or at the cost of alot of "eezo." ASC also has many stations orbiting select Alliance or allied planets, with command posts also groundside as well. The ASC was established in 2167. The ASC uses a modified version of the US Army/Air Force ranks, as well as some ranks from other countries.

The ASC uses the same infantry weapons as the rest of the Alliance. However, some of its vehicles and gear are different.
Fighter; FI-44 Aquila
The FI-44
Aquila is the premier interceptor of the ASC. It is a manuverable and initially expensive craft. Designed to launch from space stations or planets, the Aquila is versitle and adaptable. Designed in the 2160's as a navy interceptor, the Aquila has no anti-ship capability, and is a true "dogfighter," with twin oversized cannons on each "wing." The Aquila has the distinction of never being shot down, period.
Aquila is latin for Eagle, and it entered service in 2176.
Crew: 1 (pilot)
Length: 17.7 meters
Armament: Twin cannons
Fighter; F-57 Flax
Since the Aquila has no anti-ship capability, the need for a torpedo-carrying fighter arose. Thus, two years after the Aquila made its debut, the F-57
Flax arrived. The Flax is a much smaller craft the FI-44, with smaller cannons and a smaller drive-core. However, the Flax can carry up to eight anti-ship, shield-penatrating torpedoes, and is suprisingly more manuverable. It is also an avid dogfighter. It has also been more mass produced than the Aquila. Due to the nature of its role, it has been shot down by anti-fighter defenses on enemy naval vessels, though only once by enemy interceptors.
Flax is latin for Falcon, and it entered service in 2178.
Crew: 1 (pilot)
Length: 15.3 meters
Armament: Dual cannons, eight anti-ship torpedoes
Freighter; C-10 Galaxy II
The massive C-10 Galaxy II is the largest non-naval ship in the ASC, and one of the largest in the galaxy, being about the size of a navy frigate (70-80 meters long). With four gigantic engines, it produces an annoying high-pitched sound when in a medium. The Galaxy lives up to its name; it's huge, and has unparalleled range, as indicated by its huge wings, which carry all of the fuel/eezo. The C-10 cannot land in some of the smaller ASC space stations. The Galaxy can carry almost anything the Alliance can think of, including smaller starships. It can and does have crew accomidations like a mess hall, a sleep area, a lavatory, and a passenger area all on the top deck infront of the cockpit, which is highter than everything else on the ship. All the cargo is carried at the bottom. It entered service in 2169.
Crew: 7 typical (Pilot, co-pilot, two flight engineers, three loadmasters) 4 minimum (pilot, co-pilot, two flight engineers)
Length: 39 meters
Width: 91 meters
Height/depth: 6.8 meters
Freighter; C-34 Starunner
The C-34 Starunner is essentially a 1/2 scale Galaxy. It is half the weight, with half the carrying capabilty, and half the number of engines. It can go about 2/3 the distance of a Galaxy and half the noise, with twin engines and no annoying high-pitched noise (instead, a low, grumbling noise). It is more numerous and reliable than the Galaxy, and is regarded by many species in the galaxy as a great starship. Unlike the Galaxy, it can land in any space station and on any planetary terrain, as long as it can support the starship. It does not have as many crew accomidations as the Galaxy, with only two bunk beds, a bathroom, and a tiny "kitchen." It entered service in 2193.
Crew: 3 (Pilot, Co-pilot, Loadmaster)
Length: 29.2 meters
Width: 49.3 meters
Height/Depth: 5.4 meters
AWACS; E-6 Sentinel
The E-6 Sentinel is an AWACS craft, which stands for
Airborne (so-to-speak)
Warning
And
Control
System. It is designed for surveillance and combat control. The E-6 is a sleek, beautiful craft designed for long range and loiter time. The cockpit is on the top deck, with the command center below and foward. The nose houses powerful radars and jammers.
Crew: For Flight -- 3 (Pilot, Co-Pilot, flight engineer); For mission -- 13-19
Length: 48.7 meters
Height: 5.9 meters
Shuttle; CS-94 Condor
The US-94 Condor is the main shuttle in use by the ASC. It is a relatively normal and boring shuttle, though it is unique in its design and is powered by very strong engines. It has three rooms behind the oddly shaped cockpit. The main hold, the cargo room, and the armory/airlock. It entered service in 2179.
Crew: 5 (Pilot, Co-pilot, crew chief, 2 gunners) 2 minimum (pilot, co-pilot)
Length: 18.5 meters
Width: 29.3 meters
Height/depth: 18.5 meters
Armament: Twin bow cannons, aft cannons
Shuttle; CS-42 Crane
The CS-42 Crane is the VIP transport for Alliance. It is unarmed and sometimes accompanied by two or more FI-44's. The cockpit is at the top and aft of the rest of the ship, and the passenger/cargo hold is below the cockpit. The rest of the ship houses its engine and fuel. It was named the "Crane" because of the beauty of its design.
Crew: 2 (Pilot, Co-pilot)
Length: 23 meters
Shuttle; CS-2 Beetle
The Beetle is an oddly shaped shuttle used for transportation between stations/bases. It cannot go far, yet is rather roomy in the hold area.
Crew: 2 (Pilot, Co-pilot)
Length: 20 meters
