They patrol the outer reaches of the Milky Way, sometimes bordering on the edge of the Terminus Systems. The flotilla is often stationed above Elysium for routine maintenance. It's initial mission was the defense of fledgling colonies forged by the System Alliance. However, when Saren and Sovereign began they're rampage through the Milky Way, the Fifth Flotilla was assigned to escort and search-and-destroy duties. The flotilla returned to the Third Fleet in an attempt to stablize the galaxy after Saren's defeat and the rebuilding of the Citadel. Finally, peace returned and the flotilla resumed it's primary colonial defense profile.
Recently, the Fifth Flotilla has underground a series of major conflicts by the Geth attacks on human colonies. During two of those battles, the cruiser, SSV Munich was destroyed alongside the Alliance dreadnaught Shasta. The SSV Bunker Hill was blown away during the Geth offensive over Eden Prime but saved a friendly frigate in the process. The SSV Davenport was stolen from Gragarin Station from a rogue captain belonging to the Alliance. Since the Third Fleet's utter devastation over Elysium, all remnants of the fleet (including the Fifth Flotilla) were assgined to the Fourth Fleet, designated as the new Home Line.
Since the past two years, the Third Fleet has been rebuilt albeit slowly. Despite the Third Fleet's restoration, the Fourth Fleet will maintain it's Home Line status as defenders of Sol and it's closest colonies.
Maybe a bit more of a biography for the flotilla would be nice but if not, I guess it fulfills the requirements.
