Description:
Originally part of a larger 'wolf-pack' group of frigates, the Yorktown had a decorated 15-year career with the Systems Alliance Navy. In 2183, a new initiative saw the Yorktown outfitted for a different kind of operation. The frigate was upgraded with the newest military-grade engines and armor, making it fast and relatively durable. The goal was to make the Yorktown one of many self-contained troubleshooting squads.

The ship, sometimes affectionately called Y-Town or The Y by her crew, has a layout identical to her sister ships of the Normandy SR-1 class. One slight difference is that the Yorktown features a less efficient form of cooling, which allows a shorter duration of stealth operation (approximately an hour of action or four hours of powered-down reconnaissance, requiring at least three hours for cooldown before redeployment). The outside of the vessel, for purposes of its new assignment has been repainted with a plain gray finish with black accents and identification numbering.

The vessel, while clearly not designed for full-scale combat, has been heavily fortified against assault, including against fighters with an extensive GARDIAN defense laser system and advanced multicore shielding and the ever-reliable Silaris heavy ship armor. This allows the ship to brave anti-air defenses while dropping in its troubleshooting squad, or allowing the ship to survive skirmishes in order to warn Alliance forces of enemy movement.

--UPDATE

The SSV Yorktown has recently joined the ranks of its sister ships the SSV Ain Jalut SR-3 and the SSV Kosovo SR-5 as the third Normandy-class vessel to be refitted in order to boost its capabilities.

Approved.

I was asked to edit a small detail (moving the ship's construction up a year) for another player's consistency. Can I just edit that, or will I need to resubmit for approval?

You can just edit that, it's a minor detail.

If you're looking for a crew, I've just created a new character (my first on this board): Melissa Dives. The character hasn't been approved yet, but if/when she is, do you think I might be able to come aboard as a Chief Engineer? :)

PS: Sorry if this should've been PMed or in a different thread. I'm still learning the ways of this forum. :P

I play the ship's Captain so I don't think Riley aka Celia will mind me saying, "welcome aboard"! ^-^ Dangerous and Difficult Times <---That's the ship's current thread and it's also going to be involved in Operation Zealot if you want to join either.

You know, I never considered what would happen if Dirty and I ever disagreed on something. I guess we'll cross the bridge when we get there. Welcome aboard :)

Keegan - October 21, 2010 03:27 AM (GMT)
Thank you! :)

I'm currently working with Dirty to figure out how my character will get involved.
