I have been sitting in this miserable ditch for 72 Hrs., my K-rations ran out 18 hrs ago, I've managed to pick off two or three of the local fauna for food, but I'm still lacking a water supply. Looking around, there's not much hope, the acrid air is only a painful reminder of my predicament. It was supposed to be a simple assassination, air-lifted in, and air-lifted out. Ha..., if it only were so easy, my Jopter (Historian's Note: The "Jopter" is a slang term for the military Jet-Assisted Helicopters) took a depleted polonium round right in the engine, courtesy of the local rebels. Lucky bastards, they have it so easy, they gotta worry about one enemy, the Geth, we've got orders not to kill the insurgents, so we have to take it in the teeth and grin. The Jopter hit hard, killing the pilot, I crawled out of the wreckage, re-located my ankle, and dragged the Nav. Officer out by his arms (legs were currently somewhere outside the chopper), I did my best to patch him up, but the shock was too much.

I pulled his Dead Tag (Historian's Note: Dead-tags, contained a miniature shield generate [climate shielding], vaccum compressor, and GPS beacon. The body when found would be contained in vaccum, immune to decomp.), the GPS beacon winked wearily on and off. Another body, people seem to die around me, another good reason to work alone. Having taken care of the immediate problem, now I have to find my load out, I stored it in the rear of the Jopter, but the crash could have thrown it anywhere within a couple of hundred metres. I checked my combat vest, I have a knife, a jammer, and a strobe beacon, not much to work with if the Geth showed up. I knew from the training vids, Geth drones cover a little over fifteen miles an hour, we were about 20 miles from the nearest known Geth outpost when we took the hit. I set about getting my humble abode ready for my guests.

I did a quick scavenge on the Jopter, I was able to salvage two of the air-to-surface missiles, and the Jopter's shielding generator. Knowing that the recon drones are propelled by their mass effect field, I had to figure out someway to take them out in the air, I couldn't just plant the missiles in the dirt and trigger them remotely, the shrapnel probably wouldn't reach high enough to disable the drones. Then I had an idea, I rigged the shielding unit to a remote start (via my Omni-tool), placing it in the natural choke point of the canyon entrance. I then affixed the strober and radar jammer on the hull of the Jopter. Lastly I suspended the ATG Missiles from a tree limb about 2 meters off the ground. All set to go. I programmed the strobe, radar jammer, and missiles to different key's on my Omin-tool, and set about creating my sniper hide.

My sniper hide complete, I nestled in close with the vegetation, and laid in wait. At least I didn't have to wait long the Rec. Drones showed up right on schedule, time to spring my trap. As they entered the chokepoint I flipped on the strobe and jammer, the strobe grabbed their visual attention, while the jammer prevented them from getting a Geo fix on it, this conflict in their circuits caused them to stop in mid-air, and work on over-riding the jammer. I activated the shielding generator, and as the crackling blue sphere enveloped the four drones, I detonated the missiles. The explosion plumed fire across the inside of the shield directing the blast back inwards toward the drones. As the explosion dissipated, the shield fell, and all that was standing was a smoking tree stump, and a fine dust of silica falling from the sky. By jamming the drones they were unable to report back my position to the Geth outpost, buying my precious time and valuable anonymity.

Nestled in my sniper hide, I catolouged all the information I had about Geth assault procedures, drones first, they pick at your shielding and keep your attention while the soldiers move in, thats where the real hurt comes in. The soldiers should have been here by now, I don't know what would take them so long. Then I saw why, a violet flash erupted on the horizon, it flickered five times then faded. A distress beacon, at least one of the old ones. The geth must have run into some poor troopers along the way. I couldn't stand by and let them be killed, abandoning my sniper hide, I clambered to the top of the canyon, and set up a new nest.

Bi-pod down, scope adjusted.

Looking through the optics I observed 3 troopers face down in the dirt, fresh holes in their backs, 3 more were hunkered behind a piece of smoldering wreckage, looks to be an APC. The dead ones tried to run. They were up against a considerable force, 4 geth soldiers, a stalker and a crimson Sniper. The sniper was first, I steadied my aim, and gently pulled the trigger, a loud noise and a slight jump, and the sniper pitched forward and fell sparking onto the ground. By this time two of the Geth soldiers were down, taken out by an expert grenade toss from the troopers. Unfortunately one of the troopers had taken a zinger in the arm, I had to act faster, and more efficiently, no time to waste. Sighting up the Juggernaut, I steadied my breathing, and counted my heartbeats, the juggernaut took the round and kept going, staggering toward the troopers, I quickly re-sighted and fired again, this time the round struck it in the leg. It fell to the ground, but amazingly began crawling on its belly towards the troopers. One more time, steady, aim and fire, the round blew a 3 inch hole in it's chest. It was finally down for the count. The remaining Geth Troopers turn and ran, their leader slain. One of the troopers caught the nearest with a burst of automatic fire. I focused on the final fleeing synthetic, steadied, aimed and gently caressed the trigger, the round streaked from the barrel and landed square on the cowardly machines back, the resulting impact lifted the Geth up and dashed it against a nearby rock outcrop. It didn't seem like a particularly long shot at the time, but tunnel vision does that to you, the shot was later recorded at 7,006 meters from rifle to impact. The current record.
