Gears of War
Royal Blood
Chapter 1: In the Mud.
John stood still… silent… rain pouring down on his large bulky amour that was over him, his helmet on his face… allowing him a slightly better view in the dark.
“Sir—“
“Shut up Michael!” He whispered, more rain tapping onto his helmet.
He and his squad were on a large, open plain, full of mud and crawling with Locust. He was standing tall, the rest of his squad on the ground taking cover. He had gotten up to look around, not seeing anything interesting as he knelt back down, causing a small clang.
He aimed his Lancer around the area… they had been here for two days now, their rations slowly running out. There were only three of them, sentry duty for the research lab nearby… which had so far not been discovered by the Locust, which was a good sign.
Private Michael moved closer to John, pointing his Lancer out also, softly talking.
“Sir, shouldn’t we head back to the facility for food and water? So far we have one bottle and three cans left.”
John looked at Michael, who was obviously worried.
”Look Private, I know this is you’re first mission… but please, stop worrying. We’ll be fine. Now, have a can of food and re—“
There was a loud crack in the distance, John looked at the sound, feeling a warm liquid spray over his head, he turned around, watching Michael’s lifeless body fall onto the ground. John moved quickly, laying himself flat, Carl, the other team member, did the same.
“Holy shit man!” Carl yelled, giving the Locust a better idea of where they were.
“He’s dead!”
“Private! Settle down and find those Locust!” John whispered back, pointing to Carl’s longshot rifle.
John could tell the man was now shaking, the small clicking sound of his amour rattling said it all. There was another loud bang, Carl had fired a shot, and apparently his finger had slipped.
“Carl! Gimmie the rifle!” John bellowed, grabbing the mans sniper and passing him his Lancer.
John scanned the area, noticing a Grub holding a rifle, aiming down at the two COG soldiers. He aimed fast and his instincts made his finger pull the trigger, sending the rifle back into his shoulder from the force of the shot. John reloaded the rifle, bringing it back steady, looking through the scope again, he noticed the limp Locust body fall to the ground. ‘Head shot’ he thought.
He turned to his left, hearing Carl screaming, two Wretches were jumping over him, one scratching at his amour, the other ripping at his arm.
John moved quickly, jumping over the man and slamming the end of his rifle into one of the Wretches, causing its skull to shatter from the force, sending it limp on the floor, sprawled.
The second had managed to rip off Carl’s arm, causing him to scream in pain and stop squirming, allowing the Wretch a clear bite at the mans neck.
John grabbed the Wretch mere centimeters in front of Carl’s neck, he snapped the animal’s neck, throwing it away and grabbing Carl’s lancer. Carl was still howling in pain, rolling around, and making things worse.
John stood up, receiving immediate fire from a hammerburst, he grabbed Carl, pulling him up over his shoulders and fired his Lancer blindly in the direction of the incoming fire… it didn’t stop.
“Shit!” John heard Carl say as an explosion slammed behind him, sending John forward, almost loosing his balance.
John heard a deep faint voice say ‘Boom’. He ran faster, knowing that the boomer would keep firing until it was out of ammo. He came to the tree line that separated the muddy marsh from the facility, he jumped through, slamming into the wall of the dim facility, all outdoor lights were kept off incase of Locust patrols. He ripped the door open, slamming it shut behind him and padlocking it, knowing that wouldn’t stop them.
He rushed Carl downstairs, the facility had five levels, the first three were empty incase Locust breached the facility, the final two were swarming with life of Scientist, what they did, was unknown by John.
He placed Carl on the left side of the staircase, he jumped to the right, loading his Lancer and throwing Carl his pistol.
“Make sure you shoot as many of the bastards you can!” He said, aiming his Lancer up the stairs, waiting.
There was a sudden explosion, outside, causing the large door to fly down the staircase past Carl and John and slam into the wall behind them. John immediately opened fire, taking down the first Grub that entered, sending his sprawling down the staircase, dead. Three more rushed inside, blind firing down the stairs, not knowing were the Humans were. John firing into one’s skull from down the stairs, it fell onto the other one, who tumbled down the stairs with it, groaning when it hit the bottom, Carl raised his pistol and shot it between the eyes, John simply smiled as he reloaded his Lancer, killing the last advancing Locust who came to the last step of the stairs, sending it back onto the staircase.
John looked up again, the Boomer slammed its fist into the tiny doorway that was too small for the beast to fit through, John smiled, unclipping a grenade and hurling it up the stairs. It caught onto the Boomers foot, which backed away a little to reveal three more Locusts running toward the door. There was a large explosion, sending fire down the stairs, which burnt the end of John’s Lancer, smoke erupting out the barrel.
“Woo!” He shouted, looking down at Carl who was still holding the pistol and looking around. There was silence for a moment, which was spoilt buy the sound of Locust Grubs hissing and running at the door, taking up positions on the outside, firing in.
John fired a few shots, reloading the large rifle fast, sending smoke out of the barrel again. He fired at the leg of one of the Locust, which stuck its head out to fire, being shot down by John and falling backwards… only to be dragged away for another Locust to replace it.
There was a loud bang from behind them as three COG soldiers ran in from the story below, John turned around, watching as one was gunned down immediately, causing the others to scatter around.
“Get down!” John had yelled, grabbing one of the men who had rolled and pulling him up next to John, who grabbed the mans gnasher shotgun and blind fired up the stairs, ripping a Locust in half from the force.
“Hell yeah!” He said, slamming in another clip and spinning it around his hand. There was a loud roar from outside. Causing the entire Locust firing to cease. The COG soldiers did the same. The Locust outside roared, revealing a large Locust dressed in large black amour, which started walking down the stairs…
“Oh fuck!” One of the COG’s said, running off down the stairs again, only to be shot by the large Locust in the back of the neck, sending him down the stairs with a load smash.
The large Locust was now halfway down the stairs; everyone opened fire on it, sending bullets flying through its kneecaps, seemingly doing nothing, the Locust just kept walking.
“Shit…” John mumbled, grabbing the shotgun again and walking out.
“Alright you big fucker lets dance!”
John fired a shell at the large Locust, who drew a large, blood-covered sword. John immediately knew what he was up against. It was a Locust General.
The sword was sent through the air at John, he dodged it, firing a shot at the large Locust again, the bullets simply slamming into its amour, not doing anything.
The Locust gripped John’s neck, throwing him backwards, sending him flying into the wall.
He opened his eyes, looking in front of him as the Locust impaled Carl with his sword, right through the neck, be-heading him. John shuddered, getting up slowly and drawing his Pistol.
He fired frantically as the Locust slammed its sword into another mans chest, sending it right through the amour.
John was sill firing, the bullets just sinking into the large Locusts thick skin. He leant over as the large beast advanced on him, raising its sword high. He pulled the pin on his grenade that was strapped to his belt, looking up at the Locust who was brining the sword down now.
“See you in hell.”
Chapter 2: Bad Water.
The rain was heavy, pouring down upon Delta Squad. They moved through the cave of which they had come through… water pouring down over the entrance, making a waterfall of sorts.
‘Fenix, can we hurry up a little?”
The voice had rung silently through the mouth of the cave; Baird’s smartass tone was easily noticed.
“Shut up Baird, this place is crawling with Locust.” Marcus said quietly, looking down another passage of the tunnel as he moved toward the entrance. He walked through the water, it poured down over his amour and his hair, refreshing for a moment until he moved out into the humidity again. Dom and Cole were already outside, kneeling in the muddy plains ahead of them; Baird was standing next to Marcus, fiddling with his pistol.
“Baird, put that damn gun away before it shoots someone.”
“It’s been jamming all day… cheap ammo clip.” He said loudly, throwing the pistol back into its holster and picking up his Lancer again.
They moved off toward Dom and Cole, kneeling beside them and scanning the area with their Lancers, searching for any sign of movement. Nothing happened. There was a flame burning in the distance… it looked like it was beyond the tree line, Marcus pulled his sniper off the magnetic lock on his amour, pushing the scope near his eye and taking a closer look. The fire was definitely coming from the structure behind the tree line; Marcus zoomed in again, noticing a few Locust bodies at the entrance, including a lot of blood on the outside walls.
“Looks like that’s the place Hoffman was talkin’ about” Marcus said, lowering the rifle and pushing it back into the magnetic lock on his amour, pulling his Lancer off also.
“Then lets get this over with so we can get the hell outa’ here.” Baird said, getting up and walking off in the direction of the building, Cole and Dom standing after him, Marcus following.
‘Shit.’ He thought to himself. ‘Somethin’ doesn’t feel right’.
He moved through the thick mud, all he could see was the distant outline of trees and mud… it was getting dark, not a good sign. They were miles away from Jacinto City, in an open plain near the ocean, it was a very secluded location for a research facility, or so command had thought. It was infact, crawling with Locust on the plains, usually more at night, or so the scientists have said. Marcus didn’t like these kinds of missions… he couldn’t stand around in an open field waiting to be shot; it was stupid, nothing else.
“Hurry up ‘sir’.” Baird shouted, a loud crack ripping through the air as he spoke, causing him to immediately take cover, Marcus did the same. Cold and Dom proceeded to the facility as Marcus waved the orders, he and Baird lay there in the mud, searching the area for the cause of the sniper shot.
Marcus had pulled out his sniper as he had jumped down, and looking through the scope, he found the culperate. There were four Locust snipers, all along the opposite tree line, all aiming around Marcus and Baird’s location, probably scanning for a confirmed kill.
“Baird, four snipers, dead ahead.” Marcus whispered, looking at Baird, who nodded, drawing his own sniper and using the scope to pinpoint what Marcus was talking about. Marcus raised his hand slightly, bumping Baird to get his attention, who was preparing to fire, as Marcus was implying.
“Fire!” He said softly as two loud cracks were sent at the Locust, causing one’s head to explode and another was shot in the heart.
The two other Locust seemed confused, not knowing what had happened to their fellow soldiers, by the time they had realized what had happened, Marcus and Baird had fired again, taking off both the Locusts heads, causing the limp bodies to fall down dead.
“Go, go, go!” Marcus shouted, jumping up and sprinting into the tree line, receiving immediate hammerburst fire from where the snipers had been, Marcus smiled as he dove behind a tree, grabbing his Lancer and looking over at Dom and Cole, who were behind an overturned truck, returning fire, he and Baird immediately did the same. The sound of gunfire ringed in Marcus’ ears as he fired his Lancer at the five advancing Locust, one already had a missing arm from a previous battle, somehow he had survived. Marcus quickly gunned him down, laughing a little as he reloaded his Lancer, sending the clip into the gun, a small clicking noise coming out as smoke erupted out of the end of the barrel, causing Marcus to smile, pointing the gun out and firing at a incoming Locust, who took about five shots in the stomach and fell down, dead.
“Marcus! There are flames inside but it looks like we can take cover in there!” Dom said over the radio in Marcus’ ear, everyone heard.
”Alright, Dom, Cole, cover Baird and me as we get inside, then follow us in” Marcus said again, taking down another Locust.
“Roger Marcus, go!” Dom said through again, causing Baird to get up and run into the facility, disappearing into the doorway.
“Shit there’s blood everywhere!” Baird shouted through his earpiece.
Marcus fired a few Lancer shots into a Locust’s skull, causing it to drop down in the mud, slipping all over the place. Marcus’ Lancer clicked a few times; telling him the ammo clip was out. He stood up, sprinting to the door, a bullet flew past his ear, the whistle sound causing him to jump down the stairs, doing a forward roll until he came to the bottom, landing on his back. He looked around the room; there was some fire and a lot of blood… the door had obviously been blasted open, as it was on the floor of the room, a large dent was in the wall behind it. Baird was standing by a headless body to the left of the doorway, Marcus felt a little sick in the gut as he moved over to the sight, ripping off the mans COG tags and placing them in his amour. Baird seemed like he could pass out, they had found two more bodies, one had a huge hole through its neck down another flight of stairs, and the other had been impaled by a sword of some kind. There were no Locust bodies, despite the obvious fact these soldiers went out with style, judging all the Locust bodies outside. Marcus looked at the staircase as Cole came running down, still shooting up the stairs as an advancing Locust, who rolled down the stairs and landed in the fire, it howled as its flesh was burnt of its bones.
Dom fired the rest of his Lancer clip at a Locust who had jumped on the truck, sending it backwards into another Locust, who fell down under its weight. He jumped up, throwing his Lancer on his back and running down the stairs, five steps at a time until he reached the bottom, panting.
Dom looked around; there was fire, a lot of blood and a few bodies. The smell inside was disgusting, despite the smell of the blood and decomposing bodies, the air smelt like burning flesh.
“Oh man that smells, what is that?” Dom said, looking at Baird, who pointed his Lancer to the burning Locust.
“Fried Locust… want a leg?” Baird said, laughing as they moved down the stairs. Baird led, followed by Marcus, Cole and Dom. They moved past the sprawled body up against the door, Marcus grabbed the mans COG tags as well as Baird tried opening the door.
“Arg! The damn things jammed!” Baird shouted, being pushed out of the way by Marcus, who kicked his foot against the door, sending it down, revealing an empty, dark room.
“Looks promising.” Baird said, walking into the room after Marcus. They all raised their Lancers, looking around the room, as much as they could… most areas were too dark. The smell of blood was inside here also… causing Marcus to feel a little quezy.
There was a loud screech, startling Marcus as he looked to his left at a screaming Wretch, who jumped at him, only to be punched by Cole. Five more came at them, Dom fired at one, Baird the other and Marcus killed three. Cole however, finished off the one he punched with his Lancer. There was silence again, no movement. Nothing.
“Seems clear.” Dom whispered moving forwards toward another staircase, this one was wet.
“What the hell.” Baird said, stepping onto the slippery stairs, sliding down a little and landing on his behind, groaning as Dom helped him up.
”I said it was wet…”
They moved to the door, which had been torn open by the Locust and thrown into the room. This room was light. The final floor. There was mechanical equipment all over the place in the first room, dead wretches and grubs were floating in tubes… at least they seemed dead. There was a body of a Scientist on the floor; he had been shot through the head, splatting blood all over his screen, which had the words ‘DISTRESS SIGNAL SENT’ flashing on the screen.
“Shit, that must’ve been the signal command got.” Baird said, following Marcus into the next room, which was dark.
“Baird, see if you can get the lights on.” Marcus said, looking around the dark room, trying to see anything in the blackness. Baird simply nodded, moving over to the computer, pushing the body of the scientist off and wiping the blood off the screen.
“Uh, some of the guys blood soaked into the screen…” He said, pushing in some buttons to start using it.
“Will it work or not?” Marcus said, Baird had a habit of making something sound worse then it really was.
“Yeah, but it’ll be a pain in the ass.” He said, pushing a few buttons on the screen again. Causing the lights inside the room to flicker on. Revealing the horror inside.
“What the hell—“ Cole began.
The whole room floor was filled with blood… almost making it look like a river inside a building. Bodies of scientist and a few Locusts littered the area; three COG soldiers were lying in the middle. Behind them stood a large Locust, dressed in black amour, holding a blood-covered sword and staring at Marcus. Who was as shocked as Cole and Dom. The Locust hissed something under its breath… ‘Marcussssss’.
Baird moved up, he hadn’t seen what was going on yet as he moved into the doorway…
“What the fuck!” He yelled, causing the Locust to start advancing on them.
“Oh shit! Get back!” Dom yelled, rolling backwards, Baird and Cole ran behind cover, Marcus however, stood there, raising his Lancer.
“Marcus! What the hell are you doing!?” Dom yelled.
Marcus raised the Lancer higher, pushing the lever under the gun, causing the chainsaw bayonet to revved loudly, the advancing Locust picked up one of the dead COG’s Lancer, doing the same… Marcus ran forward… yelling as loud as he could… he slammed his Lancer into the Locust’s, sending sparks flying everywhere as they both struggled to push each other off, the Locust was obviously stronger, slamming its leg into Marcus’ and sending him to the floor, he rolled away as the Locust General sent it down toward him, slamming it into the floor as he moved, sending sparks and blood through the air. Marcus stood back up; blood dripping off his amour from the roll… it was disgusting.
The Locust stopped revving its Lancer’s bayonet, picking up its sword… blood dripping off it. Marcus raised his Lancer as the Locust charged, firing as many bullets as he could, he yelled as the adrenalin flowed through him, the Locust drew closer; It just kept taking the bullets. The Lancer clicked three times…
“Shit!” Marcus yelled, bringing his Lancer upwards, causing the sword to slam into it, the force of the blow jamming the clip in and bending the barrel, leaving the weapon useless. The Locust pushed on the weapon, causing Marcus to loose his balance; he fell backwards, sending his hand onto his belt as he went… did he have enough time…
The Locust rose the sword again, just as Marcus had expected, he raised his foot, pushing himself forward at the Locust, revving his chainsaw as he went, slamming it into the Locust’s leg, sawing it off cleanly… sending the Locust to the blood… causing a huge splash as Marcus pulled out his Pistol, loading it quickly and pointing it at the Locust’s head, right between the eyes.
“Die fucker.” Marcus said, firing five shots into the Locust’s skull… killing it instantly.
Marcus fell backward, looking at his hand which had a large hole in it… it was bleeding a lot, the twisted metal of the Lancer had cut into his hand as the General had slamming into it… he couldn’t move it much. He threw his pistol back into its holster.
Dom ran over to Marcus, putting his hand out at Marcus, who grabbed it, Dom pulling him back to his feet.
Cole walked in slowly, observing the dead Locust; he fired a few shots into it as he moved past it, smelling the air.
“That stinks baby, talk about bad water.”
((Sorry about the bad fight... I didn't want to do the Grenaid thing again, so I used the chainsaw... I hope it was still good .))
((Chapter 3 coming soon! :D))
