Description:
The Newcastle is 550x140 meters, more aerodynamic than standard Alliance vessels in the same class. The ship's lines are sleek, giving her the look as if she was a space born bird of prey. Unlike her sister ship, her side windows were instead designed as launch bays for her six fighters.

Biography:
Designed in tandem with the SSV Vancouver, the two ships were released only six months from each other [the Newcastle being released later]. An experimental design to replace frigates, the Newcastle uses a new experimental weapon system consisting of what are known as High Velocity Cannons, or HVCs. These cannons fire heavy metal projectiles at extremely high rates of speed, causing great damage to unshielded ships and to ground targets if a surface bombardment was necessary.
Unlike the Vancouver, the Newcastle is armed with four older Delta Class MAC Cannons, along with six of the newer, HVCs. The ship's built in Electromagnetic Shield Disruptor fires a directed EMP blast at a ship, temporarily disabling the shields of the ship it strikes and wrecking havoc with all electronics.
For defenses, similarly to the Vancouver, the Newcastle is armed with the latest generation of GARDIAN systems. Using new techniques based off of Prothean technology that was further improved and tested, the Newcastle's shields are nearly impervious. When struck by kinetic items, the shield simply shunts the energy into another redundant shielding system, converting the friction into energy. With this system, the Newcastle effectively can withstand a hailstorm of MAC shells and come out unscathed, as long as her shield generators withstand the strain.
