Basic Physical Description: Jem has a baby faced look about him, kind of preppy to say the least, with his cherubic round face and bright violet blue eyes. He dresses most comfortably in tees and jeans, anything that is able
to be worn whether he is a him, or a her. His body shape is rather slim not that it is noticeable when he dresses with sweat shirts under tees.
Yes a her. Jem can be both. As a girl, her hair is long and light brown. Her face is very similar in shape no matter the shape of her body. As a girl, or rather, a young woman, she is slim and lightly muscled. She has a well shaped body, most definitely female with a nice curve from hip to breast.
S/he is nicely tanned, mostly because of their love of being active and outside.
Personality: Jem is curious, talkative, versatile and mentally active. His mind can bounce around from one topic to another with great ease,
making him the champion of lighthearted social encounters. Jem can be fun to be with, but his ability to change his emotions, his mood with the
changing winds can also lead others to see him as shallow.
His mind flits from topic to topic and he can keep his mind on more then one conversation at once. It is a personality trait that can easily confuse
others, however it is what keeps him most happy. He needs to keep his mind active else he starts getting rather hyper.
He has no idea really on how to listen to people. Even if he seems to be listening it is important to check that he is able to tell you
what you needed him to remember. Which thanks to his eidetic memory he does. It is enough to drive one crazy how he watches
television, or reads a book, even plays hand held computer games as he listens in class.
He suffers from bouts of insomnia, often going three days without sleep. This is common if he has something bugging him, whether it be
a lesson in class, even why some one doesn't like him, or why something went wrong. He needs to go over his mistakes compulsively to figure out what he did wrong. It is his way of making certain he doesn't make the same mistake again. For all his bubbly nature, he has a rather low self esteem. He needs to feel included, needs to be within a group. When thrown into a situation that he doesn't understand, he prefers to stay in the back ground till he feels comfortable.
Mutant Powers: Jem transmutes. This young mutant (who shall be referred to as him in this description since
it was his birth gender) is able to change his physical appearance from male to female. His genetics stay the same (he has a similar condition to Klinefelter Syndrome in which he has chromosomes of XXY however he has normal testosterone levels,
at least when he is a he).
He is also able to change things, at least the look of things. For example, he can pick up a stone, and with a lot of concentration change its shape. It still remains stone however, he just rearranges what it looks like. Comes in handy if he is needing to make a sculpture for art class. He is only able to transform something a little bigger then his fist if it is solid, like stone, or larger if it is a less rigid material like wood or clay.
Eventually however he should be able to rearrange the very molecules that make up objects, transmute them so to speak, the proverbial turning lead into gold. At the moment however, they are rather lacking in that skill set- of course, the whole actually needing to actually understand the physics behind it helps.
As for the understanding, he has an eidetic memory. He only needs to read or see something once to remember it. Which doesn't actually mean that he is good at, or even likes school. In fact he would much prefer to be out running then to be sitting in a classroom learning. He is a lazy student, one who uses his memory to his advantage, to barely pass with as little effort on his part.
Weaknesses: The male to female transmutation lasts for at the most a week. A minimum is an hour. Whatever the amount of time that he changes, s/he needs the same amount of time to recover.
He, or rather she, has a 28 day menstrual cycle. If that cycle hits when he changes to a she, she is stuck till the cycle is finished. This means, unless he really wants to endure a painful cramping period, he stays male for that week.
He can only transmute to and from things that he knows the molecules of. He can not learn this just from books, he needs to be able to touch it.
Which isn't to say that he doesn't need the book work, as he also needs to know the theory to go with the practical.
Mixed metals are harder to transmute, he needs to be able to understand the base metals that make it up. The same is with minerals etc.
Transmutation of objects requires energy. He needs to eat food in order to create enough energy from his metabolism to do these things or else he tends to pass out. If he overuses his gift he first runs down any fat stores he has before slipping into unconsciousness. If he is pushed past that point, he will slip into a coma and die.
Other Abilities/ talents:Loves to run, and is a good cross country runner.
Basic History: Jem is a foster kid, shuffled from home to home, school to school since he was a baby. The only thing he knows of his birth parents was that his mothers maiden name was Blake, and that she was only fifteen when he was born. This snippet of information was discovered when a file was left partially open in front of him when he was seven.
He is the sort of kid that has kept his head down, not wanting to stick out. He has been up for adoption a couple of times, once when he was a baby (the adopted parents split up) and the second when he was ten. His odd mind (even then he had an eidetic memory) and almost hyper actions were the reason that they pulled out.
Since then he has been shipped across New York, finally ending up in Westchester County when he turned fifteen. He has been in some strict homes, some lax homes and many in between. He has stayed at none of them for longer then six months. As things go, he was rather lucky, he has never been in a home that physically abused the children; however quite a few of them were emotionally abusive. They often made him feel like he was nothing, less then their own children. It has affected his self esteem to the point where his usual vivacity can be muted around new people till he knows which way that they will fall.
The last home that he has been brought into, in North Salem, was a group home run by the state. It was here, in the some times rough environment that he manifested.
It was slow to start off, the first symptom being that he found a pebble which he thought looked kind of like a dog curled up in a ball. It was his lucky stone, and he often walked around with it in his hand. Over the space of four days, the features of the stone started taking on more and more definition, till he had a rather detailed stone sculpture in his hand. While he was amazed, he kept it to himself, not wanting to feel any more like a freak.
It was after this manifestation that he, or rather the 'parents' of the home were approached by the Xavier institute.
He had been there for very little time; only just settling in when the last of his powers came online. He woke up as a girl. Now for him to figure out how to change back.

Here are the things that should be added or changed before admission:
-In the powers, the eventual ability to turn things' chemical properties.. I would say either take that out of take out the phase shifting. The phasing to me seems a little bit disjointed from the rest of the characters' powers, but if you'd like to keep them then remove the chemical properties bit.
-I would run a spelling and grammar check just to clean things up a little, but I don't really see too many mistakes.
