Basic Physical Description: Elle's heart-shaped face houses a pointed chin and a broad, square forehead. Her almond, hazel-colored eyes are forever half-lidded (giving her that desired, stoned look) and studded with light, butterfly-esque lashes. Her eyebrows are highly arched, and rather thin while her lips are small and pink. When she smiles, she does so without opening her mouth, as her teeth are rather unfortunate. She never had braces or visited an orthodontist and, as a result, her teeth are not perfect. While the majority of her teeth are very straight, her canines are set back a little and seem malformed. She is very self-conscious of this, and would prefer if only a select people noticed. A diminutive, upturned nose is covered in freckles that also speckle the apples of her cheeks. When she smiles her lips-closed grin, one can see her poignant dimples. Almost all of her facial features- eyes, nose, lips, cheeks- are rounded and tiny, like an infant's.

She rather likes her hair, most especially in comparison to her other features. Her tresses are long, cascading past her mid-back in wild waves and the occasional ringlet curl. Colored medium brown with barely noticeable golden highlights, it casually frames her face. She has a heavy fringe that is becoming too long to ignore, and she often finds herself brushing it away from her eyes- it's become like a nervous twitch. More often than not, her hair is wild and up in her face. She rarely finds the time to tame her hair, but rather enjoys letting run wild and free. When she's in a hurry, she'll pull her locks up in a ponytail but, for the vast majority of the time, she leaves it be.

Her body, like her face, is covered in freckles that speckle her skin like raindrops. Freckles dawn her arms (most especially her shoulders) and legs, flawing her otherwise excellent skin. Elle has burn marks on her upper back, as we well a few on her neck, from an old fire. She is known to have first degrees burns at any given time on her hands, from her powers, but these seem to come and go quickly. Her frame is petite. Coming to a complete stop at five feet and three inches, and weighing in at one hundred and seven pounds, she is rather small for her eighteen years of age. She has always been rather thin, and only recently did she begin to develop some of the sinks and swells of the average female body. On several occasions she has been mistaken for a girl of a much younger age, as it is particularly difficult to distinguish her as an adult. Her face and body are both rather childish and undeveloped. Elle only exacerbates this by not dressing like an adult. The majority of the time, she looks like she is still in high-school. Elle can be found in ripped jeans, long-sleeve t-shirts, old sneakers and grungy looking jackets. Almost all of her clothing looks rather old, too big and dirty. She rarely goes shopping, and seems to care very little about this aspect of her appearance. She is rarely seen in skirts or dresses, and seems to prefer sweatpants and jeans. Overall, Elle dresses in a overtly and defiantly casual manner.

Personality: Elle's personality is an overt reaction to her formal upbringing. She has gone to great lengths to openly defy everything that she was taught to appreciate as a child, instead going in the complete opposite direction. As a result, she is a person of vast contradictions and complexities; she is incredibly difficult to get to know, and many people find themselves confused by her rather paradoxical ways. First and foremost, her opposition to authority should be noted. A contrarian, Elle does not appreciate authority figures, rules or regulations of any kind, be they in her best interest or not. She takes it upon herself to rebel to almost any direction and has been known to completely disregard most orders requested of her; she only rarely does what she is told, otherwise ignoring all directions and instead 'forging her own path'. As highly childish as this is, Elle finds it entirely necessary. She is argumentative to the highest degree and, as a result, fairly difficult to get along with. Elle has a rebuttal to everything, and seems to pick verbal fights. She never agrees or goes along with the flow.

Her personality tends to come off strongly. Elle is rather crass at times, and can be quite rude, if given the opportunity. Her language is littered with curse words, and lacks formality and sentimentality. She is direct to the point and overly blunt, casting aside all niceties in favor of directness. Her words are stream-lined, harsh and crude; juvenile and raw. Her sense of humor is sardonic, sarcastic and (at times) a little gross. She is rather morbid and macabre, as well as a bit dirty. Elle is, for lack of better words, a bit rough around the edges. Many people find themselves flustered by her lack of sensitivities, and quite a few have expressed disapproval. However, above all else, Elle is defensive. Her hard outer shell primarily exists to protect herself, and she has taken it upon herself to drive people away in whatever manner possible. It should be noted that, beneath everything, there is a shadow of eloquence and sophistication. Her posture is impeccable, and her body language is refined. Her table manners are precise and polite. Likewise, there is a large vocabulary mixed in with her curses and sex jokes. If one studies her closely, they will notice that she appears to be well educated and cultured.

Inwardly, Elle is rather childish. At time being, she is concerned only with self-preservation and making it through the day. She is easily threatened and frightened. Because of this, she attempts to come off as strongly as possible. She would like very much for people to stay out of her way and, above all, be threatened by her. Elle is all too aware of what other people are capable of, and she would like very much to be uninvolved. She just wants to survive; she is willing to do whatever it takes to stay alive. However, Elle is very afraid of herself and her own powers. She fears harm coming to those close to her and, thus, tries to keep as few people close to her as possible. Fiercely independent, she pushes people away to the best of her ability. Elle does her best to stick to herself, and does a fairly good job of herself. She is separate, distant and self-defined. She carefully stows away her insecurities, alienation and frightened nature, instead coming off as crude and fearless.

Elle is intelligent and well-studied. The majority of her successes lie in her ability to comprehend the maths and sciences. She is a highly logical person, and fairly well grounded. Elle approaches all problems in a highly systematic, meticulous manner. She has common sense as well, and has often taken on the role of the voice of reason. Nonetheless, she does not enjoy being involved in other people's problems or drama, instead preferring to fend for herself. Likewise, she would prefer if people did not know of the extent of her education. Elle tends to dumb herself down, trying very openly to come off as something that she is quite plainly not.

Although Elle is a highly independent and rational creature, she is inwardly very weak at times. Those whom she does befriend, she latches on to. She is a good, if rare, friend, and is highly loyal. However, she does allow herself to be taken advantage of at times, and she can occasionally become melodramatic and overly emotional. Similarly, Elle is easily upset by the various injustices of the world. She takes things rather personally, and she has been known to hold grudges. It should also be noted that Elle lies quite often, especially about her background and past, but also about rather trivial things (such as what she ate the previous day, or where she is going). The majority of her stories are inconsistent, and those who know her have learned to disregard most of what she says as false.

Mutant Powers: Elle was gifted with the power of thermokinesis. She is able to, with careful concentration, both raise and lower the temperature. Her powers exist primarily within her own body, and it is with ease that she adjusts her own body temperature. Because of this, Elle's body is able to withstand both intense heat and bitter cold. Her temperature has been known to range within one hundred and twenty degrees fahrenheit to seventy degrees fahrenheit. She rarely uses this aspect of her power, as it is highly uncomfortable (although she has been known to purposefully burn people with her touch or). Her temperature fluctuates constantly, but she attempts to keep it within a normal range.

She is able to alter the temperature of her immediate surroundings (within half a mile in each direction of where she stands), but not very sharply. Her effects on bigger spaces are not as definitive as her effects on smaller faces, as it is difficult for her to distribute the temperature evenly across a large area. She is able to change the temperature of large spaces, rooms and bigger objects by about twenty to forty degrees. It also takes a bit longer to change something larger than it would something smaller. In general, smaller objects or spaces are much easier. Elle is able to alter the temperature of smaller things by about fifty to a hundred degrees, depending on it's exact size. Liquids are easier than solids, and gasses are easier than liquids. She is able to make water boil with little difficulty, and has been known to make things freeze or melt. Elle is able to move the temperature in both directions, although it is easier for her to make it warmer. She is able to create extreme temperatures, but this is difficult for her. Should she continue to work on her powers and grow stronger, it would appear that her range of temperatures would increase.

Weaknesses: Her own body temperature fluctuates as she uses her powers on outside forces or object. Should she boil a cup of water, for instance, her own body temperature would raise itself about ten degrees. The more she exerts her powers, the more her own body temperature changes. This is fairly uncomfortable for Elle, and it makes her hesitant to change the temperature of anything too drastically. She prefers to keep things in a rather normal range. While her body is able to withstand intense heat or cold, she dislikes the pain greatly.

Elle has very specific ranges at this point. She can only affect areas within half a mile of where she stands, and she can really only alter the temperature within about fifty degrees in either direction. While she is able to heat things up until combustion, this is especially painful for her.

Other Abilities/ talents:
    • has become a fairly decent shoplifter
    • excellent at maths and sciences, although she wouldn't have you know
    • excellent at debate; don't pick a fight with her
    • almost fluent in french. she has also picked up a bit of spanish
    • she plays the piano, and can read sheet music (although she hasn't played in several years)
    • likewise, she can ballroom dance and has impeccable table manners that she never, ever uses.
Basic History: Eleanor Kathryn Beaumont was born on September the thirteenth to parents Dominic and Sarah in Charleston, South Carolina. She was their second child, preceded by an older brother two years her senior named Michael. The Beaumonts were very wealthy, from both inheritance and hard work ethic. Dominic was a renowned lawyer in the civil courts who, within the span of Elle's childhood, soon became a judge. Sarah had once been a social worker, but after Eleanor's birth she took it upon herself to quit her job and raise her children full time. Both of Elle's parents were devoutly Roman Catholic, particularly Sarah, Elle's mother. The Beaumont's seemed to be a testament to Christian devotion. Sarah was incredibly active in the church: she organized prayer meetings, bible studies and church functions, became a Eucharistic minister and taught Sunday school. The Beaumonts were infamously religious, and the majority of Elle's childhood seemed to revolve around the church. This was to such an extent that, for a long time, she thought St. John the Apostle was her great- grandfather. There was a portrait of him above their fireplace, and for whatever reason she came to the conclusion that she was her father's grandfather.

Elle and her brother, Michael, were raised strictly. Their behavior was carefully regulated, most especially by Sarah. Dominic was gone most days but, when he was home, he did not spare the rod. Sarah was more of an omnipresent force in her children's lives and, for a long time, her religious fanaticism seemed to effect them. Neither Elle nor Michael were bothered by receiving stories from the bible as bedtime stories, and they seem unmoved by the fact that they were only allowed to watch approved, Christian programs on the television. Likewise, it was with acceptance that they approached their strict, sugar-free diets. Elle didn't seem to particularly mind that she was only dressed in heavily smocked dresses and mary-jane shoes. That is, of course, until the two children went to school and realized exactly how much they had been missing out on. Elle and Michael were enrolled into a private, Catholic school and, after that, almost everything changed.

Elle quickly made friends and began to latch onto their ideals. She started to want normal things for a child to desire, and thus nagged her mother about them. Sarah was quick to remind Elle that the Beaumonts strived for a wholesome life, though she did make some concessions. In the middle of Elle's first grade year, she was allowed to pick some of her own clothing on a shopping trip (namely jeans, sneakers and t-shirts, although Sarah refused to let her daughter buy the boy clothing Elle wanted). Things continued on in this way and, for the majority of elementary and middle school, Elle lived a fairly normal life. Her parents were much stricter than her friend's parents, of course, and she did have to abide by a lot of rules. Elle was now allowed to spend the night at her friend's houses, for instance, and she was only allowed to see G movies up until she turned fourteen. She had to go to church twice a week- once on Wednesday and once on Sunday, and so on and so forth.

It was not until Elle reached eighth grade that she began to have some trouble. Her grades started to slip as she associated herself with what Sarah deemed as a 'bad group' (namely, a rather rough and tumble girl named Alexa that Sarah absolutely despised). Under Alexa's influence, Elle began to rebel against her parent's rules. More and more strife entered the household as she openly defied Dominic and Sarah. This was primarily because, quite frankly, Elle was entering puberty. She felt that she didn't have the same amount of freedom as her friends did and she desperately wanted to fit in and be the same at school. She was a teenager now, after all, and she felt as if she was being oppressed. Elle's parents refused to concede to her demands, instead repeatedly grounding her. This made Elle angrier, and she decided to take more drastic measures. She and Alexa took to skipping school on occasion, and Elle even began to shoplift a little. It wasn't until Sarah found cigarettes in Elle's purse that things truly began to go downhill. Elle was withdrawn from the school within a week, as well as grounded for the next year.

Sarah homeschooled Elle for the rest of her eighth grade year. Her homeschooling technique consisted of taking Elle to mass every morning and then working through various workbooks. While Elle did catch up on all the work she'd missed before, when she'd been doing nothing, it was a miserable experience. Under Sarah's aide, Elle's education was very thorough and precise; she did learn much more than she would've at school, but it was just rather boring and frustrating. Around May of that year, Sarah decided that they needed to go on a 'field trip'. Unfortunately, the field trip was a pilgrimage to the holy land, and it took about a month. Elle was rather depressed while she was being homeschooled, as she lost almost all contact with her friends, and was basically alone. Sarah homeschooled her daughter for a grand total of a year and a half, and she would have continued longer, if not for the fact that Elle's latent mutant powers kicked in.

When Elle was fifteen, she discovered her gifts. In the beginning, she barely noticed them but they soon became apparent. She ran a low fever for about a week straight, but she didn't appear to be sick, as she had no other symptoms. This continued on, and her temperature continued to increase. For a day she was miserable and delirious in bed, her temperature capping at a whopping one hundred and five degrees. Her mother was concerned, and Elle was taken to the St. Vincent's Hospital. The doctors at the hospital could find no reason for Elle to be so ill, and she was sent home after an ice bath that broke the fever. After this, things seemed to go back to normal, although Elle always seemed to run a very low fever.

Two weeks later Elle was fighting with her mom about a certain yellow tube-top that had been found in her room. During this rather stupid argument, Elle lost her temper and the temperature in the room seemed to slowly rise. Within fifteen minutes, her anger had taken over and her powers erupted. Part of the house caught on fire, and Elle and her mother just barely managed to escape. Sarah left the house almost immediately, escaping out a window, but ran back in after realizing that Elle was still inside. It was the return that scarred her and, as far as Elle knows, Sarah is still fairly scarred from the burns she received. Sarah dragged her daughter, who was once against sporting a raging fever, out of the house. Interestingly enough, it was from touching Elle that most of Sarah's burns were born. The two collapsed outside of the house, which was fortunately saved by the fire department.

When Elle woke up several hours in the hospital, she was all too aware that she had caused the fire. She still had a fever- a hundred and two degrees- that did not seem to be fading. She gradually began to realize her powers to their full extent, and by the end of the day she was able to, with great concentration, boil the cup of water the nurses kept brought her. She was frightened by the realization, and she did not know what to do. She was a freak, and probably unwanted. Her first thought was that Satan had probably caused this; it was the devil's work. Her upbringing had taught her to be supersticious, and it made sense that she would be punished for her sins. Frantic and scared, she approached the subject to her mother several days later, and was met with rejection. The family of four was staying in a hotel while their home was being fixed. After witnessing her daughter's powers a second time (Elle boiled the water), Sarah was hysterical. She and Dominic disowned Elle then and there, in a mad rage and confusion. Elle ran away that night.

She left the hotel after first stealing the majority of her parent's money. Elle took a greyhound bus to out of the state, convinced she had to get as far away from Charleston as she could. She ended up in Mississippi, where she lived on her own for some four months before she began to run out of money. With her last few dollars, she began to hitchhike her way up to New York, using the story that she was traveling to visit her Aunt. There were some very close calls with the police, but she did make it within three months. Elle learned to shoplift, pickpocket and otherwise steal in order to survive. She lived on a day to day basis, eating whatever food she could and sleeping when she found the time. She would occasionally visit soup kitchens and homeless shelters, but she was hesitant to do so, as there were always questions. In time, she gradually began to develop control over powers, which she did her best to use for her survival.

She learned about Xavier's Institute while she was homeless. There were rumors about it, somehow or another, and Elle was intrigued. She hitch-hiked her way over and, after about two days of nervously watching the building and examining the strange people that came in and out, she finally introduced herself. Elle was embarrassed to do so, as she was rather dirty and gross looking, but was glad to be accepted with open arms.

Sample RP: As Lucy Weasley on Chocolate Frogs.
QUOTE
Social interactions were particularly difficult for Lucy Weasley, although she rarely felt awkward. Quite the contrary, actually, the majority of the time Lucy was too unaware of herself to feel self-conscious. She simply did not spend a lot of time thinking about how other people perceived her, or worrying about interactions. She liked to think that most people meant nothing to her, and all conventional friendships were trivial. It was with a cold, displaced smile that she faced the world, and only on rare occasions did she become personal or personable. The redhead despised going through trite rituals (such as asking a companion how their day went and pretending to care when he or she answered, or, for that matter, abiding by any of the unspoken social laws that other people appeared to dictate their lives by). Lucy preferred to be straight-forward in every aspect of the word, and she liked to think that, through simultaneous abrasive and distant behavior, she had rid her life of any unnecessary emotional or social baggage. Of course, this was not true in all cases, and there were quite a few exceptions to her various rules. Lucy had some friends, and there were even one or two people that she felt rather exposed to- Keid was one of them.

It was strange to feel out in the open and unprotected. For the first time in a very long while, Lucy felt vulnerable. She knew her argument was weak - Keid hadn't tripped her- and she felt altogether stupid for, not only tripping it in the first place, but making a situation out of a rather small mishap. She was only exacerbating the problem, she knew, and she wished she would stop. If only I could shut my mouth and be quiet! she thought to herself, cheeks pinking like strawberries as her lips found a voice of their own. It was strange to hear her own words and realize they sounded unfamiliar: "You weren't trying to humiliate me, it was obviously some kind of pent up aggression," she stated. She realized, as she spoke, that her hands were balled into fists. Unclenching them quickly, she cursed quietly at herself for becoming so upset over nothing. Likewise, she slowed down her rapid breathing, demanding of herself that she appear more relaxed.

Lucy would rather that Keid didn't know how easily he could upset her. She wanted to be as impenetrable as a a stone statue, unreadable and cold. Lucy had never wanted to be hysterical, like some other girls had become. It had seemed to her that she was set apart from her own sex and generation, a person displaced and in a category of their own. However now, as her voice echoed nonsense down the halls, she felt like a frantic teenager. "I have no doubt in my mind that you are capable of doing something ten times worse," she said, slightly calmer now, her voice an octave lower than it had been during her previous sentiment. Her arms were crossed tightly against her chest, and she'd set her feet parallel to one another, a few inches apart; she had awkward body language. "There has never been a moment where I was unaware of what you were capable of, I've read the history books."

Sometimes, Lucy just didn't know what she was saying. It was if she was unaware of how very hurtful her words could be. She rarely meant to injure feelings, but it almost always happened. Lucy never set out with the goal to crush someone's day, she was just simply unaware of how sensitive people could be. She was a rather insensitive and abrasive person herself; there was a brick wall between her head and her heart. It was so easy to assume that everyone else let words roll off their exterior like water, she often forgot that not everybody was like her. It only worsened the problem that she could almost always find exactly the right words.
