I really don’t understand why he isn’t rated higher than he is. I had heard about him and seen that statistically he was dominating the Division 1AA, but then I got to see him play in the last two games of the 1AA tournament in which he almost single handedly allowed his team to win the 1AA Championship. In those last 2 games he accounted for 20 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble that was returned for a touchdown and 1 fumble recovery that he ran in for a touchdown. That is really nothing new for Hunter if you have been following the All-American’s season, he finished the regular season with 91 total tackles, 21.5 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks, 4 passes defended, 4 QB hurries and 1 INT. Definitely too small to play DE in the NFL, but he will be given a chance to play outside linebacker. He reminds me of this years’ Manny Lawson. He has very good measurables, at his “Pro Day” workout Hunter (6-4¼, 232) ran his 40s in 4.55 and 4.53 seconds. He also ran the short shuttle in 4.23 and the three-cone drill in 6.93. In addition, he had a 34½-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-2 broad jump and 22 bench presses. He is a lightening quick playmaker and always seems to be around the ball. I think he will make an NFL roster as a special teams ace and with a year or two in an NFL strength program could be a future star as an OLB in the 34 defense. He just needs to put on about 10-15 pounds of muscle which shouldn’t be difficult in the NFL.
So no one has heard of him or seen him play?
Ive heard the name before, but Ive never looked into him. But from your post Id say that he wont last beyond the 4th or 5th. Hes going to be one of those guys that noone knows about right now but when the draft is over we are going to look back and wonder how we all overlooked him.
Rob brings up an interesting player. I put him in a group with guys like Brandon Guillory and Justin Parrish as "tweener" prospects who could eventually turn into good football players, more easily in a 3-4.
I don't really think he is a tweener because at 235 pounds I just can't see him as an end in the NFL. I think he could probably play outside linebacker in a 34 or a 43 defense, he is such a good pass rusher though a OLB in the 34 seems the best fit.
I don't think he will get drafted before the 6th round, he wasn't even invited to the Combine or Senior Bowl. He will probably be able to help on special teams as a rookie, but will probably need at least a year to learn the nuances of OLB and to put on 10 pounds or so of muscle.
