Title: 49ers acquire the #22 pick

49ers got the #22 from the Broncos in exchange for their 2nd and 3rd round pick. Could they be looking to move up in the draft?

Who knows what they are thinking, but I think they made a bad move. There is not a whole lot of diffference between the 22nd pick and the pick they will get in the second round, then throw in a 3rd rounder. This draft looks very deep. When you are a young, mediocre team like the 9ers you need quantity not quality.

Agreed, probably a bad move. Obviously they aren't looking to move up for a QB and Mario's a bad fit in their defense. With leaves D'Brick and Bush as potential targets. Maybe a super package to go after the #1 pick. But like Rob said, they're a young team and in a draft this deep they should value every pick.

Most assumed Denver was looking to move up when they acquired the #15 to go along with their #22, so I wouldn't read too much into that. I just think that unless they are looking to move up, this was a stupid maneuver. They could have done this on draft day. If I was hired as a GM for that team right now, I would look to move down from #6 and clean up the mess.

I think this move was a product of now they think the draft is moving. Their biggest needs from my viewpoint are DB and LB. Lets say they took Huff to solve the one problem would there have been a LB in the second round that could have filled the other big need? I think their thinking was that there wouldn't be. 22nd is probably about the perfect place to get a quality LB that can start from day one.
I could also see them trading down from the higher pick and add even more picks than they gave up with Denver. Maybe someone wants a shot at Vernon Davis, further down in the draft?

yeah I doubt the 49ers are going to stay at 6. They definately need more draft picks than less.

Which begs the question, why did they make the trade to begin with?

they should've waited until they found out what was there.

I'm hearing that the 49ers are trying to put a package together in order to move up and grab the guy they really want. I'd say more but it's in today's what we're hearing.

I think they will keep the 6th pick because Vernon Davis or A. J. Hawk will be there. This is a deep draft at alot of positions so maybe they acquired the #22 pick hoping someone will fall and a team that doesn't have alot needs like Jacksonville, Carolina or Indianapolis can afford to give up their 3rd round pick to SF to move up a grab a player. Then the 49ers can still keep their 2nd 1st round pick at the 27 or 28th spot and still acquire another 3rd round pick.
