Title: Steelers First Round Pick?
Description: Who would you take?

TheSteelStud - April 20, 2006 08:42 PM (GMT)
Who would you take with the 32nd overall pick if available?

Iffybiz - April 20, 2006 08:54 PM (GMT)
I picked Mangold for the simple reason that I think out of the players you mention, only Mangold and White will be there at 32 and I don't think White has the kind of toughness that the Steelers usually look for.

I said if available. I know probably not all mentioned will be. But they are all predicted as late first early second round picks. I was more trying to figure what people think is their biggest need is.

I picked Mangold, he just seems like a Steeler player, a tough, hardworking blue collar prospect. I think you can get a good running back in round two, but Centers like Mangold are rare.

I didn't vote because it would be a tie between Mangold and Lawson for me, though neither player (especially Lawson) may be available at #32. Seems to me the Steelers have the ability to take guys off the street and make them effective OLBs though. Dick LeBeau should be in the HOF, and you could make the argument his playing career alone warrants it.

As for RB, I think the Steelers can get one later in the draft, or even wait till next year. Parker and Staley can ably share the load when healthy.

Even though the need isnt there if Lawson was still available somehow he would be by far the best player amongst the few mentioned and would be too hard to pass up on.

I went with Mangold because he fits what the Steelers do. A tough, gritty, lunch box type player. He is one of the safest picks in the draft for the Steelers and I think they pick players who fit their system. Very worst he is the starting center in 2007.

Just b/c Staley is slow, doesn't mean he runs with power. He does not provide the same big back mentality that the Steelers need.
Passing on White would be a mistake.
