Some nice conservitive picks for the Texans. Doesn't Buffalo have the Texans' fifth rounder (134) though?

marroncito - April 25, 2006 07:26 PM (GMT)
I'm certainly happy if the Texans have a pick in the 5th, but what pick was traded for Moulds then? I've seen it reported everywhere as a 5th.

Cornbread - April 25, 2006 08:09 PM (GMT)
Daryl Hackney, Barrick Nealy, Johnny Jolly, Marcus Vick won't be drafted and with two young QBs Dallas won't take Gradkowski, he will probably be a 6-7th rounder at best anyway.

Where is OLB/DE Brent Hawkins, WR Miles Austin, WR Delanie Walker, OG Chris Kuper?

Steelstud - April 25, 2006 08:15 PM (GMT)
Davin Joseph is the undisputed top guard in the draft and certainly wouldn't fall that far into the second round. I like the Steelers pick in the first round, but Cedric Griffin doesn't fit in with the Steelers at all.

Vernon Davis will not fall to the Bills in the first either. Jimmy Williams is too high. Winston Justice is too low. At least you have Kiwanuka falling out of the first round. I wouldn't be suprised to see him fall even farther then that.

I wouldn't say he is undisputed, in fact there is no general consensus of who the top guard is. There are three guys in the picture: Max Jean-Gilles, Taitusi Lutui and Davin Joseph. They are easily the top three, but the rankings vary depending on who you talk to.

DoctorDoom - April 25, 2006 09:47 PM (GMT)
marroncito I just went with what ESPN has as their draft tracker for draft order.

Cornbread I thought the draft wasn't until Saturday? So how did you get this inside information about Daryl Hackney, Barrick Nealy, Johnny Jolly, Marcus Vick not getting drafted?

And Brandon Johnson, Willie Andrews, and a bunch of other late second day guys weren't drafted either. There's only so many picks in the draft.

Also, the Cowboys have Old Man Bledsoe followed by Tony "who?" Romo and Drew Henson the baseball player. Their roster looked like it could use another QB.

Steelstud so you've looked thru all 32 teams draft rankings? Also, Cedric Griffin would be an ideal FS in the Steelers defense. He is a good tackler, instinctive, bats down a lot of passes, and supports the run.

Yeah, Vernon Davis really "fell" in this mock. All the way to the top 8 of the entire draft. lol.

So if the draft isn't until Saturday, (actually Sunday for the second day), how do you know the Cowboys will pick Bruce Gradkowski with the 150th pick? My opinion as well as your mock are only predictions of what we think might happen. But some are as obvious as the sun rising tomorrow.

Bledsoe still has a few years left, he is actually not that old, and they are still developing young Romo and Henson. Maybe they draft a QB late, but it won't be Gradkowski, he lacks arm strength and accuracy. The only QB I see them drafting is Charlie Whitehurst if he slips into their lap.

Yes. Yes I have.

DoctorDoom - April 26, 2006 12:15 AM (GMT)
Cornbread I don't know who the boys will draft. This is a mock (An imitation or a counterfeit) draft. You stated that Daryl Hackney, Barrick Nealy, Johnny Jolly, and Marcus Vick won't get drafted.

There's about 300 ranked draftable players and only 255 picks. Some people will fall out of the draft others who maybe you believe aren't worth a 7th round pick will be drafted. You see a fair share of QB's taken late in the draft because you need at least four QB's on the roster for camps and it's easier to draft one than try to sign one as an UDFA. If I over or underrated anyone I didn't do it by more than a round.

As for the Cowboys. Fine you don't believe they will draft Gradkowski. I respect your opinion. But I look at Bill Parcells who drafted MAC weak armed QB Chad Pennington and Morehead State QB Phil Simms and say he fits the Bill (Parcels). He is a smart QB with good accuracy. And it's not like I have them taking him in the second round (Quincy Carter) I have them taking him one round before you say he should go.

Odds are they won't take him. But it sure as heck wouldn't shock me if they did.

If you can predict within a round where these kids are going to be drafted you are a complete genius, lucky or psychic, or maybe a little bit of all three.

DoctorDoom - April 26, 2006 04:45 AM (GMT)
I said over or under rated them. As in where most believe they will go not where they will go.

I did my mock by looking at the teams roster, finding team needs, then locating players who fit their system. I then selected the best player based on both. Like Charles Spencer to the Seahawks. OG is a huge need with Hutchinson leaving. And having Pork Chop Womack and 36 year old Chris Gray at the other. I have Charles Spencer as my top guard simply because I feel a guy that played in space and LT in College has a lot more upside than a guy that couldn't play tackle at the college level. I think Spencer will go 5-15 picks after the seahawks. But I feel with the need if the hawks can't trade down they have to fill their biggest and pretty much only hole.

78- Browns- Babetunde Oshinowo DT Stanford
A prototypical 3-4 DT. Maybe a little over drafted but Ted Washington is old and this guy fits a need and is the type of player that fits their defense.

112- Falcons- Jesse Mahelona DT Tennessee
Small quick defensive tackle that fits Jim Mora's defensive scheme.

119- Broncos- Rashad Butler OT Miami (FL)
Small quick o-linemen that fits the Broncos play.

I can go on and on. I did think out every pick in the draft. But the later the draft got the harder it is to find perfect matches.

Cornbread - April 26, 2006 01:02 PM (GMT)
1. That is not unusual for Guards to have also played tackle, Davin Joseph, Max Jean-Gilles and Deuce Lutui have also all played tackle, they are all also much more experienced on the offensive line than Spencer who is a converted defensive lineman and still just learning the position. Spencer is a big, talented prospect but probably a mid second rounder and most have him ranked behind the Big 3 previously mentioned.

2. Why do you say Babatunde is an prototypical 3-4 DT and then say Mahelona is small. Yes Mahelona is quicker than Babi, but heavier, he weighed in at 309 at the combine and Babi weighed in at only 308.

DoctorDoom - April 26, 2006 03:08 PM (GMT)
Max Jean-Gilles played RT, on a very limited basis, Davin Joseph struggled and looked bad at LT, and I have Duece Lutui as my 4th because when I look at him I can't help but to think Aaron Gibson or Jermain Stephens and think maybe he could eat himself out of the NFL. Spencer to me has the feet of a 300lbs man of a frame of a 350 pounder. He also is pretty even right now with the rest of the pack in terms of technique the only difference he's only played OL for two years. Makes me believe with his agility and lack of experience he has more upside than any of the other guards. In the word of Mike Mayock, his floor is about the same as the rest but his ceiling seems to be much higher.

As for Babetunde Oshinowo and Jesse Mahelona. Oashinowo's team bio has him weighing 320lbs, and when I look at pictures he has the big bubble butt with tree trunk legs. His body type looks exactly like Casey Hampton and Vince Wilfolk. While Mahelona is more evenly built, more up and down and reminds me of Chad Lavalais.

Cornbread - April 26, 2006 03:33 PM (GMT)
They all played offensive tackle on a limited basis, but you make a good point on Charles Spencer, he is probably right up there with the other 3 guys I previously mentioned.

You can't ever rely on the schools bio's of these players, they are quite often exaggerated. The official combine and/or Senior Bowl numbers are by far the best because they are unbiased. This draft class is very scarce at nose tackle with Ngata, Gage Watson, LeKevin Smith and Steve Fifta the only decent tackles over 310 pounds. An intriguing late round nose tackle prospect would be Oregon States's Alvin Smith (6-2 320).

Yea, he might be able to play the nose, you don't have to be 320 to play that position, it helps but it is not mandatory. Former Jet and current Cowboy Jason Ferguson has played the nose for years and he is only around 300 pounds.

DoctorDoom - April 26, 2006 05:49 PM (GMT)
Babetunde Oshinowo might have padded his weight at school, but it is just as likely that he lost some weight in the offseason to get quicker for the combine. For the prototype 3-4 NT you want a guy with strong legs wide hips and a low center of gravity. Babetunde Oshinowo looks to have all.

Ferguson is only listed at 300, but Jamal Williams is only listed at 305. Their listings do no accurately portray their actual weight most of the time. Just by looking at Ferguson he is significantly heavier than 300. As for Jamal Williams there is no secret that he actually weighs in at around 344.

Just because the word was in a sentence doesn't mean you used it correctly. So your statement means that the cheeseburger is obligated to be in Babetunde Oshinowo's hip pocket. So how is a cheeseburger obligated to do anything? Understand?

Steelstud - April 27, 2006 12:31 AM (GMT)
The cheeseburger is obligated to be there by the obese nature of the individual in question, much in the same way that a brain is obligated NOT to be present in the cranium of morons.

Cornbread - April 27, 2006 11:52 AM (GMT)
Anyway, back to your mock. I think the key to any mock this year is trying to figure out what the saints are going to do. I know the best rated player would be Mario, but they have a bigger need at offensive tackle. Ferguson makes more sense for the Saints to me.

DoctorDoom - April 27, 2006 12:52 PM (GMT)
Yeah, lets get back to football.

I think the Saints would love for the Texans to take Williams and leave Bush at #2. I think the Jets and Packers would be willing to move up and that would leave them perhaps D'Brickashaw, but I think their biggest need is LB and maybe Hawk. And that way they could get a Marcus McNeill or Eric Winston in round two.

Steelstud - April 28, 2006 02:43 AM (GMT)
Look for the Texans to snap up Chester Copperpot at the top of the 2nd round.

In think you mean Chris Chester, but I don't think he will go that high. More likely 3-4 rounder.

Iffybiz - April 28, 2006 07:48 PM (GMT)
Your Bears picks started out strong, rounds one and two may end up exactly what the Bears do. It falls down a bit in round 4 and 6 however. There's no way the Bears take two receivers and since the BEars are taking Moss in round one than Lee isn't happening in round 4. I'd say given who's there they'd take Iwoh in that spot. In round six the Bears have traded Mike Green to the Seahawks for their sixth round pick so I'd have the Bears taking Slay with that pick.

Yeah, you are probably right the Bears won't go with two receivers. I was just looking that besides Muhammad they are pretty weak and I don't see Greg Lee slipping much farther than he is in this mock.

And I made the mock prior to the Bears trade. And Dwayne Slay would be a nice addition for the Bears. Not too fast but is a big hitter.

Now that the dust has settled, I think it's fair to say we won't be looking to you for OG analysis any time in the near future.
