Title: 3 Round Mock W/ Offseason

dawhizz - February 22, 2006 04:22 AM (GMT)
All right, here’s my first attempt at anything major his offseason. I have a bunch of FA signings (including some signing of players I expect to be released), because I find it hard to slot players in the draft if I don’t predict some of what will happen in the offseason leading up to it. I tried to do most of the big free agents, though I’m sure I left plenty out and some I’ve included aren’t too significant. I also have some trades, just to spice things up. Some of my moves are expected, some are not, some probably don’t even make sense. I’d love to hear all comments and critiques because as much as I tried to research your teams needs, you know your team and your system better than I do. Let me know if I have a team picking in the wrong place or if I use a player twice and/or completely overlook a clear first day pick. I’m sure I’ll make some grand update in the weeks after the combine. I’ve also put my ideal whole Bears offseason at the end, but you’ll probably be too mad at me by then to care.

To borrow from Stephen Colbert, open wide, baby bird, because pappa’s got a fat nightcrawler of MOCK …

I like the signing of Edge and getting Jackson in the 2nd round, but there is no reason for the Vikings to draft a DT in the first round. They have Pat and Kevin Williams. Watson doesn''t make any sense. I would rather see Bing there.

NINER4LIFE - February 22, 2006 06:22 AM (GMT)
First of all, I like the Eric Moulds signing in the offseason. I like the Mock but with Peterson signing elsewhere I think LB would be a priority in the first round instead of RB. Chad Greenway would be the more than likely pick there. If Marcedes fell to the 49ers in round 2 then they'd pick him up in a heartbeat. Terna Nande is way too small to play in the 3-4 at LB. He'd be more of a SS in that defense IMO.

You don't like the Lions . The only player in the draft worth moving up to pick 3 is Vince Young. Throw his name in there and i'll agree otherwise never. I look for the Lions to be stuck at 9 and take D help. Jimmy Willams or Huff.

Exactly, defensive tackle is the last position that the Vikings need right now, especially since we have CJ Mosley developing as Pat Williams eventual successor.

Houston's offseason makes me smile, a lot... even if DD is a cap hit, who cares? Bush, Runyan, AND M J-G? AND a tight end? That definitely makes me happy.

One Problem with all this......

-OT Jeff Backus signs with New Orleans Saints
* FRANCHISED - This Means that the #2 pick belongs to the Lions. As well as NO 07' and 08' !st rounders.

-Titans trade #3 to Detroit for #9, #40, & #74

Why do people keep on giving the Texans 1st day DT's? The team is moving from a 3-4 to a 4-3 and so has a surplus of DT's--fact is they have too much money tied up in Gary Walker, Seth Payne, Travis Johnson and Robaire Smith. What they desparately need is a true 4-3 DE as the only 4-3 DE types they have are tweeners who have been playing OLB like Jason Babin, Antwan Peek, Shante Orr and Charlie Anderson.

Also, while Giles looks like a great OG prospect, he isn't a great fit for the Texans. The Texans run a zone blocking scheme which is going to be further tweaked to resemble Denver's system. 355lb linemen are not the bread and butter of that system--typically they are if anything undersized rather than supersized.

WTF is that???? this entire post is terrible topped off with MIN taking a DT (The LEAST of there needs in rd 1)

orez28 - April 12, 2006 08:00 PM (GMT)

Yeah. Kevin Williams and Pat Williams are terrible. They NEED a DT badly.

DT may be the Vikings best position. Watson is a reach at a position we don't need.

Keep in mind that this was made in February. Don't pay much attention to it, because a lot has changed.

orez28 - April 12, 2006 09:16 PM (GMT)
are you a vikings fan?

Yeah I am, and not only do they have the 2 Williams, but also they have C.J. Mosely who will replace Pat Williams in a couple years, and Spencer Johnson is the #4 DT, and has started for the Vikings in the past. Both Johnson and Mosely are still developing their games.
