Mentioning it because of the publicity that AI isnt getting an invitation. Im curious to know who did get one.
mtsucalico85 - March 1, 2006 11:15 PM (GMT)
22 of them were announced.
USA InviteesI also have heard that JJ Redick, Adam Morrison, and Greg Oden may get invited.

Least we are starting to learn that we need shooters and defensive players in order to compete at a gold medal level. I love the fact that we are getting some young guys in there, theres no question that they usually play harder.
uwbadger12000 - March 2, 2006 01:38 AM (GMT)
I still think they should have invited AI.
talltorrec145 - March 2, 2006 02:06 AM (GMT)
they didnt invite many big guys like o'neal or duncan or garnett
Chris Horwedel - March 2, 2006 02:29 AM (GMT)
Shaq, Duncan and Garnett said they weren't interested in playing. AI however, seemed to really want to go.
Captain Uberpants - March 2, 2006 03:16 AM (GMT)
Maybe thats the reason for guys like Brad Miller and maybe Oden.
Heres what i would do for the starting 5.
PG Lebron
SG Dwayne
SF Marion/Carmelo
PF Amare
C- Brand
#1 Rule = You dont give an effort on D, you go right to the bench.
#2 Rule = Your selfish, you dont play (reason Kobe wouldnt start for me).

Why would Greg Oden get invited? Just publicity stuff? because he obviously cant play at Olympic level yet. sure he might try hard but come on

I was wondering that myself. My guess would be because he is a true big man. Also, they might be trying to get him in place for future games.
Chris Horwedel - March 3, 2006 04:05 AM (GMT)
I'd like to see Oden as the 12th man. It'd be good for him to get the experience against those guys and as a 12th man, who cares who it is.
I wouldn't want Carmelo anywhere near the Olympic team if I were in charge. Terrible attitude, selfish, lazy, etc....
I'd start
PG: Chauncey Billups
SG: Redd
SF: LeBron
PF: Shawn Marion
C: Elton Brand
The bench would have Kobe, Reddick, (ideal guy to beat a zone), Amare, Bosh, Pierce, Wade and Oden.
Although Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Gilbert Arenas get serious consideration. I guess I might be willing to bump Oden for Howard and I'm still looking for a spot for Paul since PG play is so critical. I'd replace Kobe or Pierce before Reddick though.
The starting lineup isn't necessarily the best players on the team, but the best fits to play the Olympic style of play. With that said, I don't love any of these PGs.

Dwight Howard is sick... cant put oden on over him.. especially since howard is real young himself

I agree. Howard is what 19, 20 years old compared to Oden's 18? I think Howard playing in the nba for a year and a half gives him the advatage over Oden, and he is a physical freak.
mtsucalico85 - March 4, 2006 05:11 AM (GMT)
If they could find a way to have both on, that would be nice but if you can only have one, I agree, you take Howard. Right now, he is a more complete and more developed player than Oden.
Chris Horwedel - March 4, 2006 11:14 PM (GMT)
Of course he is, Howard is light year's ahead of Oden. The two don't even compare.
My reason for wanting Oden on was simply for the impact it would have on his personal development.
