Title: 2006 NFL Mock Draft
Description: Mock Draft

sithoverlord - March 6, 2006 06:55 AM (GMT)
1st Round
1. Houston Texans- Reggie Bush HB USC
Although I think they would be better served taking D'Brickashaw Ferguson here Bush is just too rare of an athlete to pass on. Id say they either trade the pick to a team like Tennessee who covets USC QB Matt Leinart, a player that wont get past the saints who pick ahead of Tennessee. If they trade with Tennessee its very possible Bush would still be sitting waiting for them at #3.

2. New Orleans Saints- Matt Leinart QB USC
The Saints desperately need a QB and Matt Leinart is the most dependable one on the draft board at #2. If the Titans trade up to #1 and snag Leinart expect them either to try and trade back themselves or draft QB Jay Cutler out of Vanderbilt or go with the best LT prospect in two years D'Brickashaw Ferguson.

3. Tennessee Titans- D'Brickashaw Ferguson LT Virginia
While most mock drafts have Texas QB Vince Young going here I think that if the Titans are unable to Land QB Matt Leinart they will draft OT Brad Hopkins replacement and instantly upgrade their offense with the #1 LT on the board. Mario Williams and Michael Huff are options here as well but they drafted several DEs in round #2 in previous years and I dont suspect they will focus on DE high in this draft although his considerable talent may be impossible to pass up on. As for Huff, he is a strong possibility but games are won in the trenches and Ferguson is the pick with that in mind.

4. New York Jets- Jay Cutler QB Vanderbilt
With Chad Pennington's shoulder in doubt the Jets will draft his replacement in Jay Cutler from Vanderbilt. He wont be ready to start from day one, but if Pennington can eke it out for a season the Jets will be sitting pretty in a year with this pick as Cutler has the largest upside of any QB in the draft. Mario Williams is a possibilty if they trade John Abraham and if they believe Pennington is the future still, which I dont.

5. Green Bay Packers- Mario Williams DE NC State
This is by far the easiest pick to be made in this mock draft. The Packers will be high fiving each other on draft day if Williams is still somehow on the board when they pick at #5. At 6'7 295ilbs he ran a 4.68 at the combine and solidified his draft status as a top 5 pick. I wouldnt quite say hes the next Julius Peppers because hes not quite as fast or athletic but he is already stronger than Peppers in my opinion.

6. San Francisco 49ers- Haloti Ngata DT Oregon
Standing 6'5 345ilbs 10% body fat, Haloti Ngata is the best DT prospect in years and is a perfect fit for Coach Mike Nolan's 3-4 defense. Its either Ngata or Winston Justice at #6 for the 49ers and Ngata is the better player. Nuff said Ngata to 49ers at #6.

7. Oakland Raiders- Vernon Davis TE Maryland
While I dont think TE is the most pressing need the Raiders have as they already posses a pretty good TE in Courtney Anderson, but having said that, Al Davis will not pass up on the kind of Talent Vernon Davis posseses with Moss like speed from the TE/H-Back position. Davis ran a 4.38 at the combine, Moss runs a 4.37 as reference point. Michael Huff is a possibility here as well but Davis will get the nod.

8. Buffalo Bills- Winston Justice OT USC
The thing that really held the Bills back last year was the dreadful play along their offensive line. Justice would imediatley step in and start at LT from day one and instantly improve an inconsistant offense. Again Huff is a possibility as well but O-line is what the Bills need more than anything else.

9. Detroit Lions- Michael Huff DB Texas
Finally Michael Huff finds a home in my mock draft, and Im sure some of you are already saying wheres his Longhorn teamate Vince Young, be patient. Michael Huff would instantly upgrade a porous defense. He could step in at any position in the Lions Defensive Backfield and be the best player on the field, Dre Bly included. AJ Hawk is a definate possibility here as well but the nod goes to Huff who is the more talented of the two.

10. Arizona Cardinals- Brodrick Bunkley DT Florida State
While most mock drafts either have the cardinals snapping Vince Young up if available at this point or Memphis HB DeAngelo Williams I have them nabbing the massively talented DT from Florida State. This guy really stood out for me on combine tape and soared up my board. AJ Hawk is also a possiblity as is DeAngelo Williams and Lendale White.

11. St. Louis Rams- AJ Hawk LB Ohio State
The Rams front office will be jumping for joy if AJ Hawk is still available to them at this point in the draft. He instantly becomes the best LB the rams posses, Dexter Coakley included. With Hawk still on the board no other player is under consideration with this pick.

12. Cleveland Browns- Manny Lawson LB NC State
With the two run stuffing DT off the board already the Browns turn to the next most valuable position in the 3-4 defense, pass rushing OLB. With Lawson they get the next Demarcus Ware. Lawson is the better football player than highly talented DE Mario Williams. At 6-5 245ilbs he ran a 4.41 40 yard dash at the combine and vaulted into the first round. This guy is going to be great.

13. Baltimore Ravens- Lendale White HB USC
With Jamal Lewis shown the door out of Baltimore they greet the next Jamal Lewis with Lendale White from USC stepping in to fill his shoes. White is no doubt in my mind the only HB in the Draft with no question marks to fill. He is as advertised, a Big Powerful runner who is faster than he looks. Vince Young isnt going to happen here, sorry UT fans.

14. Philadelphia Eagles- Chad Greenway LB Iowa
To be honest the Eagles dont have alot of holes in their roster. Greenway is a tough physical LB in the Brian Urlacher mold that isnt afraid to make the big hit. Its either Greenway or D'Qwell Jackson here depending if they want to go OLB or MLB.

15. Atlanta Falcons- Jimmy Williams DB VT
Next season the falcons should just introduce themselves as the Atlanta Hokies with them drafting yet another Virginia Tech standout in the first round. But seriously Williams will bring a toughness to their secondary that they have lacked as either a tough physical CB or a hard hitting FS. He is the cheaper version of Michael Huff in this draft.

16. Miami Dolphins- Marcus McNeill LT Auburn
Much like the Buffalo Bills the only thing holding the Dolphins back is the dreadful state of their O-Line and McNeill is a huge dominating force at either tackle who can also play guard. Reuniting Auburn teamates, McNeill and Brown should = success. They dont draft Vince Young here as they will probably land either Drew Brees or Daunte Culpepper in FA.

17. Minnesota Vikings- DeAngelo Williams HB Memphis
While many fans will be lobbying for hometown favorite Laurence Maroney the Vikings will turn a deft ear and take the better of the two HBs. Williams is an absolute steal at this point as many people had him going to the Jets at #4 early on in the draft process.

18. Dallas Cowboys- Gabe Watson DT Michigan
This pick will more than likely dissapoint every Dallas fan on the planet but it is the correct one. I myself a cowboys fan find no value in drafting anyone else at this point in the first round. There are no OTs remaining that value the #18 selection, no FSs that do either and Vince Young has far too many question marks next to his name to pull the trigger on his selection. Watson is the perfect fit for a 3-4 defense as noone in the draft other than Ngata takes up more blockers than he does. The only thing that keeps this beast of a man out of the top ten is his inconsistant motor, and thats something bill parcels will remedy. If Watson isnt the pick Id trade down possibly out of the first round altogether to collect a 2nd rounder this year and a 1st for next.

19. San Diego Chargers- Santonio Holmes WR Ohio State
What do the chargers need the most? Hmm, lets think about that one, im going WR as their biggest need. Santonio Holmes is the best WR in the draft and fills their biggest need. Seems to me the Chargers would be content turning the card in on the speedster out of Ohio State.

20. Kansas City Chiefs- D'Qwell Jackson MLB Maryland
It would be a shock if Jackson fell this far down the draft board, but if he does the Chiefs wont give his selection a seconds thought. What the Chiefs lacked most last season was consistant run defense, thats what Jackson does best. Hes a younger, faster version of Ray Lewis.

21. New England Patriots- Chad Jackson WR Florida
By running a 4.32 40 at the combine Chad Jackson became the most intruiging WR prosect in the draft. With 4 of 6 Patriot receivers becoming FAs Jackson is the default selection here as HB Laurence Maroney isnt a strong enough runner for me to pick here. Kamerion Wimbley is also a name that comes up here due to McGinest's looming FA departure.

22. Denver Broncos (From Was)- Vince Young QB Texas
Finally Vince Young's slide from the top has ended and has the Denver faithfull exalting Young the next best thing since sliced bread. I think that Young fits denvers system perfectly and will be ready to play in about two seasons. This pick shouldnt worry Jake Plummer as Young is a project and as I have previously stated wont be ready for a # of years. Young is basically a bigger more athletic version of Plummer. The reason why he fell this far is due to his relatively weak arm, unorthidox delivery, wavering accuracy, and well he aint the smartest tack in the box.

23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Mathias Kiwanuka DE BC
Kiwanuka was a top ten selection before he got whooped by Ferguson at the senior bowl practices and turned in dissapointing combine results. But having said that he is a steal and will be a fine replacement for Simeon Rice. Charles Spencer is a possibility here as a guard as well as is LB Ernie Sims.

24. Cincinnati Bengals- Leonard Pope TE Georgia
How good can Carson Palmer be with a huge athletic target underneath? Thats the question that Marvin Lewis has been asking himself for a year and Pope is the perfect answer. At 6-7 250 he ran a 4.62 40 is a decent blocker and a skilled receiver. Ernie Sims is a possibility here as well.

25. New York Giants- Ernie Sims LB Florida State
Like every other mock draft I have the giants taking a LB in the first round, but there is a good reason for the trend. The Giants absolutely fell apart after injuries to their LBs last season. Tye Hill is a possibility as well.

26. Chicago Bears- Tye Hill CB Clemson
The Bears will abstain from drafting a TE to help out their pathetic offense and will take the CB they could have used to defend against Steve Smith in last season's playoffs. Marcedes Lewis is a possible pick here as well.

27. Carolina Panthers- Marcedes Lewis TE UCLA
Lewis is a great comliment to WR Steve Smith underneath. While he doenst posses breakneck speed he more than makes up for it with height and receiving ability. While he only ran a 4.79 at the combine he is a mismatch for LBs and DBs due to his 6'6 WR frame. They could go Charles Spencer here as well to solidify a poor o-line.

28. Jacksonville Jaguars- Antonio Cromartie DB Florida State
Cromartie is a rare talent with 4.39 speed at 6'3. He will provide great value with this pick playing across from Rashean Mathis. Maroney is an idea here as well but I dont think that he runs tough enough to fit Del Rio's power rushing attack.

29. Denver Broncos- Laurence Maroney HB Minnesota
Maroney is a perfect fit for Denver's rushing attack as he perfomed greatly at Minnesota in a simular running game. With Mike Anderson's release the Broncos need another back to go along with speedster Tatum Bell who head coach Mike Shanahan has said is only good for 10-15 touches a game before wearing down.
Jason Allen is also a possible pick here to play alongside John Lynch and play the slot receiver in nickel formations.

30. Indianapolis Colts- Charles Spencer OL Pittsburgh
The reason why the colts didnt go undefeated and win the superbowl was due to the attrocius play of their guards Lilja and Scott who arent NFL worthy players. One thing Charles Spencer will do differently than Lilja and Scott is not getting overpowered by a LBs bull rush.

31. Seattle Seahawks- Demeco Ryans LB Alabama
What better than to add another rookie LB to Seattles defense due to the way Tatupu and Hill played last year. Jamie Sharper isnt getting any better or younger for that matter and Ryans would be another young playmaking LB on Seattles defense for years.

32. Pittsburgh Steelers- Nick Mangold C Ohio State
With Jeff Hartings release the Steelers look for the next great Pittsburgh Steelers center in Nick Mangold. His selection just ensures the Steelers dominance in the trenches as they have no real needs that this pick could secure.

2nd Round
1. Houston Texans- Eric Winston LT Miami
2. New Orleans Saints- Jason Allen DB Tennessee

mtsucalico85 - March 6, 2006 01:03 PM (GMT)
Young won't fall that far. He will still be a top 5 pick.

Love the Vikings pick. Williams, if he is available, is the best player for the Vikings.

round #2 is now edited to my original post. Comments are welcome.

3rd round is up, please feel free to leave a comment.

mtsucalico85 - March 10, 2006 03:37 AM (GMT)
I don't like the Vikings 2nd round pick. TE is not a position of need. The only TE I have heard that the Vikes are even interested in drafting is Dominique Byrd. I would want Bing there.

sithoverlord - March 10, 2006 03:42 AM (GMT)
I personally dont like Jermaine Wiggins, hes not a good enough receiver for my taste even with his 70 something receptions. Klopfenstein runs better and can catch the ball equally well. If I was going togive the vikes a safety it would be Daniel Bullocks, Bing's just not as good a player in my book.

With Byrd, hes just not a good enough blocker to go ahead of Klopfenstein.

HellRell56 - March 10, 2006 02:49 PM (GMT)
I like Pittsburgh's draft alot but instead of Humes maybe a DB or WR.

DoctorDoom - March 10, 2006 05:17 PM (GMT)
You have the Steelers taking two RB's in round three and four. Might want to correct that. Since they already have a 1,200 yard back on the roster.

You also have Joseph Addai and his sub 4.4 forty as a 4th round pick.

QUOTE (sithoverlord @ Mar 9 2006, 09:42 PM)
I personally dont like Jermaine Wiggins, hes not a good enough receiver for my taste even with his 70 something receptions. Klopfenstein runs better and can catch the ball equally well. If I was going togive the vikes a safety it would be Daniel Bullocks, Bing's just not as good a player in my book.

With Byrd, hes just not a good enough blocker to go ahead of Klopfenstein.

They also have Kleinsasser. That is why they don't need a TE.

The reason I said the thing about Byrd was that there was a small article in the Star Tribune that said the Vikings are interviewing him, and that there is interest on both sides. He is the only TE that they are even considering right now.

I wouldn't mind Bullocks. I just like Bing more.

sithoverlord - March 11, 2006 07:48 AM (GMT)
Yeah but Kleinsasser is more of a FB than a TE in my book. The only reason the Vikings had him lined up at TE was because Mike Tice's offensive philosophy which will be completely different under childress.
I think Kleinsasser's is going back to FB this year. A safety is a decent choice for the Vikings at that point but I dont know.

sithoverlord - March 11, 2006 08:06 AM (GMT)
I have Adai in the 4th round because he isnt that good of a player, 40 times arent everything. He didnt do enough at LSU for me to have him any higher.

As for the Steelers I have them drafting a HB in the 3rd and 4th because I think they are the best choices for the Steelers at that point. I think Ganther is interesting but he isnt exactly what I would call a back that is going to get the tough inches like Humes can. As for DB Im not sure there is a DB at that point that is worth drafting, anyway I think the Steelers are pretty set on the DB front.

Ike Taylor
Deshea Townsend
Bryant McFadden, 2nd Round
Ricardo Colclough, 2nd Round
Troy Polomalu
Mike Logan
Chris Hope (if they resign him)

Thanks for the comments, 4 round mock drafts are just flights of fantasy anyway. Im sure someone I have rated highly wont even be drafted, happens every year.
Example-
Brandon Browner CB Oregon State Undrafted (Everyone had him as a 1-2 rounder)
Ernest Shazor SS Michigan Undrafted (Nobody thought hed make it past the 4th)

UncleNeonLeon - March 12, 2006 03:56 AM (GMT)
Sorry my man, but no way the 49ers draft Ngata. They already have a similar player in Isaac Sopoaga, and are high on last years 5th round pick Ronnie Fields. They also aren't in the market for an OT. They spent a lot of money on Jonas Jennings last year, still have Kwame Harris, and Adam Synder, who had an impressive rookie year.

The 49ers 2 biggest needs are receiver and safety. #6 is too high to take Chad Jackson or Santonio Holmes, and maybe a little too high for Michael Huff and Jimmy Williams. Depending on how high they are on Vernon Davis, I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade down.

sithoverlord - March 14, 2006 01:56 AM (GMT)
Oh I dont know about that, Ngata is alot better than Sopoaga. As for their OTs, well they arent good at all. Jonas Jennings is would be better off playing guard because he doesnt have good enough feet to play LT and Kwame Harris is a dog, he cant play at all.

Cornbread - March 14, 2006 11:01 PM (GMT)
I couldn't get past the 1st round after I seen the 18th pick! Gabe Watson is not even close to being a first rounder. Why would you draft a guy in the 1st round that you could probably get in the 3rd? Let me tell you something about Watson. We all know he didn't do much this season, even getting benched at one point, then at the Senior Bowl practices he flashed some dominance and then everyone started talking about him, then in the game itself he dissapeared. Then he went on to have a horrible combine. If you look at all the drills over-all he might have been the slowest player at the combine!

Of the Defensive players:

1. He had the 3rd or 4th worst 40 time of 5.20.
2. He had the 2nd worst 20 yard split time of 3.10.
3. He had the worst 20 yard shuttle run of 4.85
4. He had (by far) the worst 3-cone drill time of 4.84.

sithoverlord - March 15, 2006 09:08 AM (GMT)
5.20 was not the 3rd or 4th worst time at the combine. Several players ran in the 5.4 range. Hes a beast, only needs proper motivation to dominate. I wouldnt expect Watson to ever collect more than 4 sacks a year if that but what he does is eat up blockers and hes one of the best at that in this draft.
He might slip out of the 1st round but hes at worst a high second rounder. There is no way he slips out of the 2nd all together. I said the Cowboys should trade out of the 1st altogether but if the didnt Watson is the best choice available.
Anyhow im going to have an updated mock up in a little bit.

VY won't fall to #22, and if you think most teams in the 10-19 pick range pass on him i have a simple math equation for you.

YOU=IDIOT
