Bush or o-line with the #1 pick? This is comin from a jags fan, i hope you dont take Bush.
BigChanduski - February 21, 2006 12:37 AM (GMT)
Bush, then start making picks for that 4-3. Gonna need to tweak up both DE spots and most of the LB corps.

I dont want Bush. We can trade to quite a few people and pick up more picks. I think we could trade down to between the 15th and 32nd pick. Pick up maybe Mcniel or scott with the first pick and a good gaurd with the first pick in the second.
I would love for the broncos to trade their 2 firsts and a player for the #1. The way it looks though they wouldnt be able to afford to sign the #1 pick LOL
BigChanduski - February 21, 2006 01:28 AM (GMT)
Ag, I'm not sure you want to trade back that far, or you are going to find someone to do so. Trading up that far is super hard to do. That takes basically your whole draft from this year, and probably a first in 2007 (to go from 15th or so to 1). So I doubt that happens. I understand not wanting Bush, I guess. If you miss on him though...yikes.

I'm hoping that the Texans don't take Bush, and it's not because I want them to take Young. I don't want them to take Young, either. They need O-Line help badly. I think Carr can be much more effective if he's not running for his life almost every snap. I like the backfield of Davis/Wells/Morency. They need to work on the line on both sides of the ball.

sorry, that last post is mine. I forgot to log in.

I agree for the most part with those who want to trade down and get OL help. They should trade down and try and land D'Brickashaw to give Carr help, but whatever they do, they need to make their OL better than last year and actually give Carr a chance.

Did you really put 'we ready' in the sub-line?

Why would you want to pass up on an amazing player like Bush for an offensive lineman? Good lineman can be found in later rounds if you have good scouts.

Good OG's and C's...the LT's are first rounders.

I am sorry, but the Texans Column is not very accurate. Some are little mistakes and others are big.
The Texans have not taken D picks at the top of the last 3 drafts--AJ--2003, Dunta--2004, TJ--2005. Babin went with Dunta in 2004. The most glaring need might have been the defensive backfield if the Texans were sticking with a 3-4 D but they aren't. They are going to a primary 4-3 D and have zero 4-3 DE's on the roster. A true 4-3 DE is one of the top needs for the team. This leads to the most glaring error which is saying the Texans are short on DT's. The Texans have nothing but DT's on their roster and will be releasing several among the list of--Walker, Payne, TJ, Smith, DeLoach, Ioane, Sears, etc. How does it even make sense to say a team is short of DT's because they are moving from a 3-4 to a 4-3? The secondary is a big question mark but part of that is Fangio's horrible D with its passive read and react cover 2 D that is now thankfully long gone.
On offense, the column ignores Kubiak although he is mentioned. If Kubiak stays anything like Denver and Atlanta the OL will not be a 1, 2, 3 priority draft wise even if building a great OL is a top priority. In addition folks like Jean-Gilles don't fit the system at all. On the other hand, the Texans have never had a good multi-tool TE and getting a 1st day TE should be expected rather than a surprise.
I applaud anyone who undertakes a team review, but this one doesn't seem well done.

OK, so now we have a mock draft column for the Texans that manages to underwhelm on 3 of 4 picks in the top 66 when the Texans have plenty of opportunities for solid contributors. Putting aside a horrible trade for the Texans in basically Jeff Backus to move down from #1 to #9, the Texans take Kiwanuka at #9? There is a better chance of him being available at #33 than being taken in the top 10. Then they take a SS. The Texans have three SS's on the roster and have released their FS. At #33 there is bound to be a CB or FS with as high a grade as Bing and both are higher needs than SS. Then neither fish nor fowl Devin Hester the CB/WR/return man. Problem being WR and return man provide no benefit to the team--they have Jerome Mathis as a pro-bowl return man and project WR. As a CB Hester is a project at best and they already have one of those in speedster Chris McKenzie. Two OLB's on day 2?--Greenwood is locked in at WLB. A much more significant need is MLB with Cowart filling the part now and Wong injured--a MLB couldn't be found anywhere with value. I can't imagine many happy Texans' fans with that kind of draft.

I agree with Sam Roberts, offensive lineman can be had later in the draft, when a player like Reggie Bush comes along you have to take him. Even though D'Brickashaw Fergi is the best tackle in this draft, in the grand scheme of things he isn't anything special. I think he will be one of the better starting tackles in the NFL, but he might never make the pro bowl, where is if Bush gets a little lucky as far as staying healthy and keeps his head straight he has the ability to be a future hall of fame running back.

I'm all for Bush as the pick...how can you pass up a LT type player look what he ahs done with San Diego. Don't get me wrong I like Dom but you can't pass up Bush. Carr is decent when he is vertical, the addition of moulds gives them a good duo of WR's, leaving OL as the main need for the offense (and prob the overall biggest need).
Here's what I would do...Draft Bush, package Davis with a 4th and 6th to move up into late 1st or early 2nd, get that elusive OT, then focus on the D with whats left of the picks.

1. Bush will be drafted first by the Texans, unless somebody moves up and trades for Bush.
2. Bing will not be drafted in the 1st two rounds.
3. Whitner will almost certainly be a first rounder.
4. I don't think Davin Joseph lasts past the 50th pick and Roach is so slow he might not even get drafted at all.
5. Honestly, I don't see Trueblood or Zemetais as day one picks.
