Title: Bird Years

Commish - December 11, 2007 02:17 AM (GMT)
Submit them here......thought I had them but I didn't i guess.

You need to have them because expirings won't re-sign with you unless you have 3 bord years so submit 'em

Cali - December 11, 2007 03:12 AM (GMT)
Louis Williams - 2 years - http://www.nba.com/playerfile/louis_willia...reer_stats.html

Andre Iguodala - 3 years - http://www.nba.com/playerfile/andre_iguoda...reer_stats.html

Samuel Dalembert - 5 years - http://www.nba.com/playerfile/samuel_dalem...reer_stats.html

Rodney Carney - 1 year - http://www.nba.com/playerfile/rodney_carne...reer_stats.html

Same here. I've never known what Bird Years are so if anyone could clarify, than that would be great.

Something-To-Say - December 11, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
So do you only claim it for people who have 1 year left?

Bryant_Kobe - December 11, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)
I am totally lost when it comes to bird years. Like who can we use them on, how do we know how many someone has. Is it kind of like extending someones contract??

MikeNY711 - December 11, 2007 08:37 PM (GMT)
GUYS READ THIS!

Bird Years are the amount of years a player has NOT entered FA. So go to nba.com and go to career and bio and stuff and check like when the player has changed teams and see if it was from FA. REMEMBER, DON'T COUNT THE 07-08 SEASON BECAUSE WE'RE NOT DONE WITH IT!

They help your team because if a player is expiring with 3+ Bird Years and he enters FA you can send him max offer, while if less than 3 bird years 120% of last year's salary as long as it's under the max.

Something-To-Say - December 12, 2007 12:38 AM (GMT)
So wouldn't everyone claim it for every player? Why are some people doing it for just a few players?

MikeNY711 - December 12, 2007 12:40 AM (GMT)
They don't care about him expiring and don't want him or just to their key players because they don' care about re-signing others.

Not sure how long wee can submit these for but if it's until the player expires they're only doing the ones they need to for now.

Bryant_Kobe - December 12, 2007 12:48 AM (GMT)
What if like a player has only been in the league for like 2 years? Can you only offer 2 bird years?

What? If they've been in the league 2 years, chances are they're at 0 bird years.

it is the number of years a player goes WITHOUT testing FA

Something-To-Say - December 12, 2007 03:00 AM (GMT)
so the # of years their contract has gone through as of right now ?

Why would we claim bird years anyway, it looks like you can sign for cheaper if they have less bird years. More bird years means max money but less means only a certain amount more than they make now.

Commish - December 12, 2007 03:05 AM (GMT)
this is the best way to explain it...

3 bird years on your own player means
-sign for max money even if over cap
-sign for 7 years

Less then 3 on your own player who hits FA
-sign for however much cap uve got - 6 years max
-sign for MLE/LLE

If he has less than 3 it is like he was never on your team once he hits FA

best explanation yet thanks imma start checkin the years. Though the years themselves I still dont totally get

Commish - December 12, 2007 03:09 AM (GMT)
HOWEVER MANY YEARS HE GOES WITHOUT HITTING FA

FOR EXAMPLE

A GUY MAY BE 7 YEARS PRO....BUT SIGNED WITH ME AND PLAYED FOR MY TEAM FOR 2 SEASONS....THUS MEANOING HE CAN RETAIN 2 TOTAL BIRD YEARS

Something-To-Say - December 12, 2007 03:19 AM (GMT)
k i just talked it over with chippy and i think i get it...

I'll just post my expirings then

Delonte West- 2 bird years
kurt thomas- 9 bird years(lol)

MikeNY711 - December 12, 2007 03:29 AM (GMT)
No, if they've been in the league 2 completed seasons chances are he probably has two because unless the guy was cut then he should still be on his rookie contract.

We're talkin about how many years he has not been in FA here.

Commish - December 12, 2007 04:31 AM (GMT)
IVE DONE THIS FAR

Commish - December 13, 2007 05:01 AM (GMT)
Anymore? Without 3 bird years a player expiring also will not offer to resign with you so these are very important.
