Title: Celtics Add Much Needed Depth

BostonGM - December 14, 2007 04:55 AM (GMT)
It was no secret that the Celtics were in need of dire help off the bench, but noone would've ever thought they would've seen the "big three" get broken up after such a brief stint. The celtics made took a gamble on tuesday, sending G/F paul pierce to the Nuggets in exchange for high-fliying wingman J.R smith, F/C nene hilario, Forward Linus Klieza, and defensive stopper Shane Battier.

JR smith is a young player that can shoot the three and also drive the lane due to his incredible vertical leap, which lead him to the 2006 dunk contest where he was eliminated by Josh Smith in the 1st round .Smith had the best year of his short career last year, averaging just under 17ppg.Smith made headlines last year for pushing Jason Collins of the New York Knicks after what looked to be a hard foul.

The Celtics also aquired some much needed help at the center position with nene. Nene will likley be more of a defensiv presence for Boston than he was on the nuggets. This gives Garnett a chance to fcus more on running the offense with guard Ray Allen. Nene is considered somewhat of a "gamble" seing as how he suffered from a torn ACL in the first game of the 2005 NBa season. As of now, Nene seems to be 100% healthy again.

The sleapers,Klieza and Battier, are not to be left out either.Battier is a guy that knows how to play defense and has been known to shut down an offensive player. Klieza is also a solid PF who not only can score from the inside, but he can step out andd shoot the three aswell. Both players look like they could fint into this team.

"We as on organization knew that this trade was a bit of a risk." said the Celtics GM at a press conference "It was hard to see Paul Pierce go, but this trade gave us not only good players, but also depth as well. Now we jsut dont have three main scorers, but we have a squad of guys that can score, but play defense aswell. Nene and Kevin are both big-men that can score, rebound, and block shots so we are looking forward to seeing them teamup in the post while Allen and J.R focus on what they do best which is shooting and scoring. Not to mention Battier who will shut down just about anything you throw at him... its good to have a players like Battier on your team."
