Title: Is Cally Too Young for Tyrol?
AlertFighters - July 4, 2006 07:16 PM (GMT)
Does anyone else think that Cally is too young for Tyrol? Cally can't be more than 22-23 on the show and Tyrol has to be in his 30s.
I think Cally looks toward Tyrol more as a father figure than anything else.

I am going to admit I have had a bit of the same thought on this age issue thing. Not necessarily from the Cally character's point of view but from the Tyrol's.
I just have always pictured him taking her in as kinda little sister. The scene with a pregnant Cally behind the Chief during the union meeting shocked the heck out of me. I honestly didn't see Tyrol progressing with a relationship with Cally. Of course we have that missing year...
Now the wild card in all this is the RDM factor. We dont know if Tyrol is the father yet. We saw a nice scene with her backing him up at the end. But until October comes...who knows?

I don't have problem with the age issue. However I have to admit they seem like an odd couple for all the reasons stated. The Chief seemed to be more of a big brother or father figure. However that said, I am interested in seeing where things go from here and support the new story line for Cally and Chief.
FYI, I seem to remember reading that Nicki Clyne specifically said the baby was the Chiefs. I know no one has brought this up before, but I think I read it in BSG Magazine. (Or maybe it was an Internet interview?)
Also I found out from Mero and from Trisha, ( The associate producer of post production) that Cally and Chiefs first romantic moments were cut from the final episode but WAS filmed.
So I think the mystery of who's baby it is, is solved. :naughty:

I view Cally as someone who is in a very vulnerable position in her life (who wouldn't be after seeing your whole civilization destroyed). Plus the fact that she has just been beaten up by Tyrol, was in the brig for 30 days for shooting Galactica Boomer, was almost killed by Crashdown and was almost raped on the Astral Quenn. You could always tell she held a special admiration for him. I just hope he didn't take advantage of her.

Well Aaron is 12 years older than Nicki, but I don't see this as ridiculously too old. I mean Nicki is only three years younger than Katee Sackhoff.
(Surprisingly, Grace Park said she was born in 1974 or 79....on BattlestarWiki writer Bradley Thompson heard her say she was born in '74 but she doesn't really look that old so I don't know. Either way she's actually older than Katee which is surprising)

Yes, I hear Mrs. Parks age is in question. I don't have the answer but she looks amazingly young and looks more in her early 20's than late 20's.
The Chief isn't really to old for Cally, but they do seem like an odd couple. :P

I think the age is fine. Of course i'm 34,so I suppose i'm bias.

Up until recently I was invloved with a man 14 years older than me and I'm 23 so round about the same age as Cally. I don't think she's too young for Tyrol. I don't think age matters at all as long as you love someone and they love you back and you can make it work. I think Tyrol and Cally are really sweet!

Yep, this is my take on different age relationships between consenting adults too. A lot of people use the "what can a person of X age and Y age possibly have in common?" but for my own part many of the best friendships or discussions I've had have been with people quite a bit older than me and I found I could relate to that better than people the same age (individuality isn't just a myth for some of us it seems). Love is the important thing.
I hope they continue to develop the Cally and Tyrol relationship throughout the new season and don't do anything to frak it up.

There was always that big brother/ little sister feel to the relationship- I didn't know what I thought of them being romantically involved.
However after seeing the premier of the third season I have to say, Nicki fits right in as a young mother and their is a special bonding between Cally and Tyrol that is very believable.
I am sure because Nicki and Aaron are such good friends in real life contributes to what we see on screen. They felt very comfortable and natural as a couple in the series.

I think most people feel that way, even Aaron. Did you read what he said about it in the new interview on AICN?
Q- Aaron, do you think, as a person or a character that Tyrol took up with Callie because it was "easy"? It's not having to having to deal with the grief over Sharon v.1, and she's just 'there' you know?
A- I think that Tyrol has a genuine affection for her. He always has. it's just been more brotherly.
Q- but that's creepy if you marry her.
A- I still think it's a little creepy

Yes, but it was brotherly for him because he had someone already. I would rather describe it as comradely, that gets rid of the subconscious association with incest.

Good point. Its just a shame that all these romantic relationships happened so fast on the show during the leap ahead and we never got to see them develop. Especially a strange pairing like Cally and Chief really needs to develop over time for us to easily accept it. Not to mention Lee and Dee. Of course I can buy Starbuck and Anders getting married cos Anders is a STUD!

Well Solium, yeah I worry about like what things are going to be Post-New Caprica that like....how will things be the same on the hangar deck? How will they juggle a baby and their jobs?

I am perplexed by this as well. I don't think its a spoiler to say Cally and Tyrol make it back to Galactica. Because RDM has said "they" as in the Caprica crew make it back and also because its well documented that Nicki's character is signed on for the entire third season.
So what happens to the existing flight deck crew and officers? It does not seem reasonable that they will be demoted. It doesn't seem likely that Cally with baby can go right back to her old job. Yet what else is there?
I guess we will find out soon enough.

well, while Chief was defined as "the mechanic guy"...Cally is too to a degree but she's really "Chief Tyrol's helper" first and foremost. I mean I think she's got technical training and stuff so because they're understaffed she'd feel the need to help out by working again (i.e. grunt civilians don't know how to fix Vipers, she does, and they need every skileld tech person they have). I dunno, what with other characters having babies too now, have her run the day care? (haha) Maybe they'll do one of those "juggling family and job" things to add to the drama :)

Depending on the duration of the trip to Earth, we may be seeing Nicholas learning how to fix Kacey's Viper...or Hera's Raptor. :P
