Title: BSG Season Three
Description: News and chat
Solium - July 6, 2006 02:12 AM (GMT)
I thought I would start a Season three chat thread. Keeps things all nice, neat, and tidy.
While we have a long wait (in the states) it is reported Season three will begin September 24th.
IMDB recently added Nicki to the cast section and she will be appearing (at least) in the first two episodes of the third season.
Occupation (24 September 2006) - Specialist Cally
Precipice- Specialist Cally

Correct. Speculation is cool but lets try and avoid spoilers. I am allowing minor spoilers as long as they are placed in white type. However I prefer that ppl not post spoilers if they can help themselves. :whistle2:

I heard the last week of September a few weeks ago. But I guess nobody really knows.
Also the winter break will be "short", and it will return in January with the second half of the Stargates.

Scifi.com is now officially saying Season 3 is October 6th. Bear McCreary mentioned that the first 2 episodes are airing back to back as a tv movie thing (Star Trek did that all the time for important premieres)
Solium - July 17, 2006 10:31 AM (GMT)
Thats cool. Two episodes back to back. Thanks Lex and Mero for setting me straight. I don't know anything I just post here. :rofl2:

Fanny on Skiffy was kind enough to share some information with me about Nicki's future on BSG and the age, sex and name of her baby. Let me know if that stuff is considered spoiler material or if you all want to know. ( If you don't know already)
Also she informed me Nicki's contract has been "extended", implying for the rest of the season and Nicki also filmed a BSG webisode. ( What ever they are called) That will be appearing online in the near future and fills in story arcs between season two and three.
Lex - July 20, 2006 07:32 AM (GMT)
I think I can live with THAT kind of spoiler, so please tell me :)
Solium - July 20, 2006 10:31 AM (GMT)
I don't consider these spoilers either because it doesn't reveal plot elements. But in case some fans don't want to know I will answer this in white text. Highlight below to read the answers:
The sex, age and name of Cally and Tyrol's baby is...

Cally's baby is a boy named Nicholas and he's about 2 months old

I so hope that Nicki gets some really decent scenes in season 3. With the character development she's had it would make sense. I just really hope we get to keep Cally around for further seasons and that Nicki continues to get a chance to show us all what she's capable of because she brings Cally to life so well, it'd be a shame if she didnt continue to have a more developed role.

Our Friends at Ragnar Station posted an newspaper article from Kaloomps, British Columbia ...a small town where Galactica is filiming apparently. Jamie Bamber was interviewed..and he mentioned Nicki Clyne was one of the actors on set. I presume this is before there four week production break..but I could be wrong...might they already be back at work?

Like I said before, Bradley Thompson spoke of her as if she wasn't going to die anytime before the season finale, and said nothing to indicate she would be killed in the finale, either. She'll be around through all of Season 3, though as always, BSG's season finales have a lot of crazy stuff going down in them.
Knaves - August 5, 2006 04:19 AM (GMT)
I finally found that article. I kept getting one from the weekly internet paper which didn't give as much information. That looks like it will be an awsome episode.
Solium - October 7, 2006 05:24 PM (GMT)
The premier has arrived!
As always remember not to post spoilers of un-aired episodes.
Also remember the basic rules of the board is as follows:
If an episode aired on the EAST coast of the United States you may discuss it here. I know that's a bit of a disadvantage for folks in other time zones. But if we had to wait for everyone to see it first, it would be many months, not just hours before we could discuss the episodes.
My thoughts later. I have screen caps to post! :naughty:
Knaves - October 8, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)
Oh wow. I don't know what to say. The two episodes were great, the perfect season opener, but they were just slightly less depressing than the Webisodes. You really need to watch these with a few more episodes to get to something uplifting, they will kick backside in a DVD.
Cally is wonderful, although ever since seeing the Extended version of Pegasus I don't think we ever see anything like Nicki's acting ability in many of the episodes. They cut her down in screen time (which is natural for a smaller role) and they need her to play a particular role of late, a sort of foil to the Chief, someone who gets even more scheisse than the Chief (even getting scheisse from the Chief) and still retains hope, love and even confidence in certain things.
Most of what she had to work with was facial expression, and Nicki Clyne is great with facial expressions. I have also been watching the Office, and John Krasinski is also a facial expression actor (or divine entity dare I say), Nicki Clyne should also be just let loose on a show sometime (not necessarily BSG, they need specific moods, you need something more lighthearted for the varying range in my opinion).
Oh well. That was woth the long break in the year, but it left you feeling very unsatisfied and even a bit frustrated because it was so dark, and incomplete. Thr season opening was like the smack in the face Laura gave Tigh, it certainly got your attention and focus, but it sure did sting. I am a Masochist and can't wait for more. :)
Vorticity - October 8, 2006 03:07 AM (GMT)
Yeah Knaves, those two Conjoined episodes did sting. My guess is that is what the creators wanted to due to the audience. I mean...that was some serious drama all around. Tigh's character...I had read a review over at Ragnar...was going to be something...and boy was he ever.
Was it me or was Nicki's sprint down that slope kinda...yikes? I mean...ever run down a dirt/rock slope downhill? Geesh I hope it didn't take to many takes!

Wow...just...wow.
The ending of season two/beginning of season three has been a wild (but amazing) ride.
I hate to play the "I told you so card" but I can't help but gloat in front of my BSG watching friends for predicting the (more like hopeing for) the Cally/Tyrol relationship. Im glad that the writers care enough about smaller characters to develop these (relationships) for us.
I would like to hear everyone elses's opinion in this area, but I thought the confrontation of Cally by Sharon (while Cally was imprisoned) was fantastic. I found myself enjoying that scene more than I should have.

chris71 - October 8, 2006 07:09 AM (GMT)
This whole "Cylon Caprica 2,U.S. Iraq" comparison is not sitting well with me. I'll see where it goes before I pass any more judgement.
Solium - October 8, 2006 11:46 AM (GMT)
Over all they were powerful episodes and I was very interested in how the different stories played out. Now we knew the direction the series was going to take with the occupation.
While I know some are unhappy with the parallels with real world events I think the next 4 episodes will only be a foot note in a much larger story arc.
I thought Nicki and Aaron were great as a couple and the scene with their baby was one of the best scenes so far.
I was actually disappointed in the confrontation with Boomer. I am sure Nicki loves how it played out. But for me it seemed to choppy, words were sprung around without any relationship between one another. I didn't like the " I wish I had a gun" line. It could have been set up better and slower and waited for Cally to be right in Boomers face. However the line doesn't really work because Cally should have been thinking about survival for the sake of her baby, not pissing Boomer off.
That said, Cally has always been feisty! LOL That's just a nit pick, as I LOVED everything else they did with Cally. She looked so scared and her run was treacherous. I wonder if they slipped in a stunt person for the trek down the hill side? She could have tripped and broke an ankle.
Knaves - October 8, 2006 02:11 PM (GMT)
Ronald Moore mentions in his podcast on the two episodes how feisty she is. It is late in the second episode and I belive at the point Boomer comes to her cell but I am not certain.
Did anyone notice that it was once again Racetrack who is there for the monumental moment? It was lovely, she is definatly the Lady on the Spot; Blowing up A Basestar, Finding New Caprica,
Innitiating Contact with the Resistance, Getting Slugged by Starbuck, and a few others.
I am waiting to see Seelix, Battlemaiden of the Resistance though. There is a great picture at
Caprica-City.de with her at a table with other leaders of the Resistance (watch out it is a big picture, and it is the fifth one down on the left). I greatly appreciate the gathering abilites of Lex and his mates more and more.
Doctor Django - October 8, 2006 04:37 PM (GMT)
Both episodes were wonderful, although it was in the second (Precipice I believe) that things really seemed to move into high gear. The makers sure know what they're doing alright - putting Cally in that much peril is guaranteed to get me involved in the drama. I loved the Cally and Boomer confrontation, and isn't it sweet that Boomer is so ready to defend Cally even after the understandably nasty words?
Loved what I've seen of Nicki's work in the webisodes too. The fact that Cally was just about the first person seen in those is a great shoutout to her growing popularity and hopefully a sign of how Nicki's going to be getting a bigger part in the storylines.

Beowulf - October 15, 2006 05:28 AM (GMT)
Interesting episode (in referrence to the one that aired October 14th). Nice to see how Cally was able to escape/be rescued by Tyrol and his rebel forces.
I don't know if this is even important, but I found it odd that they try to keep most weapons futuristic and not like the real world counterparts that they are modeled from; yet there were several prominent scenes of Tyrols group with Tec-9's and AK-47's. I guess its assumed that people can recognize them more as rebels when they have Ak-47's.
Probably not really meant to be noticed, more just instill the "resistance" feeling.
Yeah, I pick up on wierd things.
Solium - October 15, 2006 10:49 AM (GMT)
Beowulf to be honest I didn't pay much attention to that. I think because BSG always mixes real world technology with BSG technology.
I think the major reason for seeing "earth type" weapons is more of a budget issue. They probably have a lot of props of existing weapons at their disposal. It cuts down on fabricating those BSG guns/blasters for each resistance member.
Knaves - October 15, 2006 12:40 PM (GMT)
There is also almost a basic design for a chemical powered projectile weapon. A resistance such as that would need the simple, durable, easy to maintain weapons. The kalishnaov's are the most basic design for this, it would be safe to assume that such designs would alawys occur anywhere where the physiology is close to earth humans.
Look at bows for example, bows were basically the same design for so many various groups of people who had little to no contact. There were different designs or technological advancements for certain bows but the basic design was universal...well at least on this planet.
Beowulf - October 16, 2006 03:31 AM (GMT)
It only really caught my attention because I have found that TV Studios/Hollywood like to use props in that way (ie: giving Ak-47's to "rebels") to instill the feeling of freedom fighers, or what have you, "look".
I agree completely that weapons are inherently the same in terms of design/devolpment in different areas, and that the relability that has made the AK ubiquitous is not in dispute.
Personally I felt it was the post 9/11 culture effect that determined it to be an AK used, and I don't like such infrences in my favourite Sci-Fi show. Hopefully Ron Moore wouldn't let something like that slip past him, so that I am just making something of nothing.
Yeah, I pick out the wierdest things to talk about.
Knaves - October 16, 2006 04:43 AM (GMT)
I can see your point. I was not in the US and hadn't been for a while when Sept. 11 2001 came up on the calender (plus I study History as a career) so I did not see it as such a monumental event. I, in fact, like the most of rifles being shown better than the futuristic weapons. I would really like them to show some older powered rifles, they are truely kings of the battlefield.
The uzi? that the chief was using looked kinda pathetic, but I sort of imagine the resistance fighting with M1's or Mausers. The Ak's or M16's do not really have the punch I would imagine needed for a Cylon centurion, but that is just me.
Your topics are great Beowulf. We can't talk about Nicki Clyne all the time. I am going to in fact mention Seelix, Battlemaiden of the Resitance and how awsome she was this episode. The Galactica knuckledraggers, with the exception of Jammer, are kicking B-U-T-T this season. Go Galactica Deck Crew!
Solium - October 16, 2006 10:19 AM (GMT)
What did you all think of the reshot of Cally's escape in Exodus? It is clear from the end of the premier Cally runs down a hill and into a wooded area.
In Exodus Cally runs across an open field (no trees in sight) and up an embankment.
Lots of talk about this on Sci Fi boards. One explanation is that two different directors shot those episodes and also RDM decided after the first shoot to put Cally in the line of fire and have Tyrol save her.

I think that was a Tec-9, but living here in Canada, my knowledge is not up to spec with my American counterparts (generally speaking all the "cool" weapons are not allowed in canada).
Tec-9
In regards to the M1/Mauser thing, from what weve seen it looks like the only sure way to take down a Toaster is with a HE round (although I assume just plain hosing them down with large quantities of ammo works too) I figured that the resistance is more worried about killing the skin jobs anyways.
In regards to the changed perspective on Cally's run, I am without an explanation. If you ever hear the official word, I'd like to know. If I had to guess I would say you are right with the RDM theory.
Knaves - October 16, 2006 11:33 PM (GMT)
Yea, I agree, you need something more powerful, an HE round like you said. I am more versed in weapons before...well, before the first world war. = )
As to the skin jobs, very good point but it seemed that the marines and Sharon were more worried about the metal versions when it came to actual confrontation.
I think the change in the scene works, because what you know and the point of view of the audience changes. It is storytelling, and decent storytelling at that. Sure it kills the realism but it makes for a fabulous storyline. I quite enjoyed it, they could have allowed Cally to run around the woods for a while, but it seems like they don't want those complications to the story, they want to get to the exodus so to speak and get groups back togethe, wrapping the planet storyline up, which is now into it's fifth and soon to be sicth episode, that is a pretty long story arc.
Vorticity - October 17, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
Yep..this Arc is being wrapped up alright. One thing perplexes me...How does one evacuate 38,000 civillians quickly in what seems to be leading up to a firefight? It's not realistically possible. So I'm guessing some wild card event is going to occur.
I just can't wait to see what Cally ends up doing onboard Galactica when she returns. Will it be a husband and wife led Flight deck? Or will some roles slightly change. Can't wait to see what lies ahead!

Darth Coffee - October 17, 2006 04:04 AM (GMT)
I'm not that knowledged on the modern firearms, but HE rounds may not be the must have for toasters. Helo shot up several with his sidearm during the first part of season 1. We never (to my knowledge) heard that the boarding toasters were the standard toasters that were used to plant trees on Old Caprica. It would stand to reason to use a heavily armored unit to operate on Galactica because they were not in great numbers and needed to ensure that their mission (gain control of Galactica and use her guns to destroy the fleet). Since the toasters are not alive like the Raiders and "Skin Jobs", the cylons may not have a need to put heavy armor on standard patrol toasters.
V - October 19, 2006 05:25 AM (GMT)
btw, the Callyween art is one of the best Solium has ever done
I like it that after Season 2.5 without Cally getting much to do at all, she's doing so much now.....I mean this is actually MORE than she did in Season 2.0 in terms of screentime and character relationships (she has a baby, the nighvision snatching in the night, etc.) (well, after the Scattered/VoD/Fragged/Resistance arc).
Of course in Season 2.5 they flat out said in advance "we can't think of anything for Cally to do between now and the season finale (when she will do stuff) so go work on another project for a few weeks (the result being "Totally Awesome") so she wasn't around enough for the longest of times.
I was worried it would lose steam, but Nicki's proving she's not just a passing fad but can actually ACT on the show.
WOW. Just WOW the entire Galactica-Boomer + Cally reunion. Ahh, once again quotable: "I wish I had a gun!"
Plus hey, this is like the first time on the show that she was actually like no wearing a jumpsuit or uniform and actually showing her shoulders and stuff (as I always point out, she too wore a fun dress in the party for "The Hand of God" but Starbuck is standing in front of her in every shot).
Solium - October 19, 2006 11:49 PM (GMT)
One disclaimer. Darth Coffee made the new Callyween banner. :P ;)
B00B00 - October 20, 2006 05:18 AM (GMT)
The reshoot of Cally's escape can be fanwanked all you like, but its unfortunate because it really did pull the audience out of the show's mise en scène and that's never good.
Funny thing about one of the firearms in Exodus pt.1, it really looks like a futuristic pistol or a prop, but its actually a real gun. The pistol that Cavil drops when his truck is captured and he's lying on the ground dying:

Really looks like a fake gun huh? But its real:
