Title: Cally's first name revealed?!?!?
Description: STOP THE PRESSES!!!

"At Comic-Con, I asked the writer Bradley Thompson what Cally's first name is and he said, "Cally is her first name. Her last name is Henderson." He said he didn't think her last name was ever used in the first two seasons, but he's pretty sure it comes up in Season 3.

Her first name *IS* Cally and her last (now maiden-name) is Henderson?!

***Bradley Thompson actually comes to BattlestarWiki on a regular basis to answer questions, and I've asked him to confirm this information, on this page:

http://www.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Battles...nded_Version.29

Excellent!

Cally: best female scifi character in a long time, because she's a realistic, normal (Anti-Seven of Nine) person, just exactly what the Battlestar Galactica mission statement was: show REAL people who are well characterized.

12 views and no responses?! Come on now, this is STOP THE PRESSES news!

Wonder if its for real?

A little side note:
Nicki Clyne said in an interview she would be happy if she was just "Cally", like "Cher". :rofl2:

V - July 24, 2006 10:03 PM (GMT)
Well I awaite Thompson's reply.

And for all we know, it's something like "While Cally is her "first" name, it's short for "Cassiopeia" or something.

I wonder how this show is going to reveal her full name.

Knaves - July 25, 2006 12:10 AM (GMT)
My bet will be in a flash back to her and Tyrol's wedding (I am assuming they had one considering how religious Tyrol is).

Vorticity - July 25, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)

One possiblity is these mini-epi's that are supposed to be broadcasted on the web...I presume through Sci-Fi Pulse. These featurettes are supposed to fill in some background in the five month gap between The time we saw Cally last time..and the Partisan action that picks up right at the begining of season three.

That would be the place I would introduce her name if It were to be done.

Episode 8 is called "Unfinished Business".

It's the "flashback episode" which shows many things that happened during the skipped year: **episodes before this will have one or two flashbacks to a few things, but this is the *dedicated*, mostly flashback episode, so I think it would be there if at all.

So how are they going to do that? One episode dedicated to flashbacks? I was hoping that they would be embeded throughout the season, but then I guess that does get in the way of the actual episode stories.

Ok, after thinking and suddenly remembering the Firefly flashback episode, I can see where this can be done and done well. Oh, I am now very excited about this one, 8 you say? that means it will come before christmas and the break, woohoo.

The start to the new season is looking to be simply awsome!

Yes, that was in our interview at Battlestar Atlantia. And I totally agree with her. That would be cool.

Henderson?!? Nevermind, now it's Cally Tyrol

V - July 25, 2006 03:17 PM (GMT)
I will tell everyone the minute that Thompson confirms this on BattlestarWiki. I think there will be *some* flashbacks in other episodes, but yeah, like that Firefly flashback episode, episode 8 will have almost entirely flashbacks (Framed by stuff in the present)

I'm patiently waiting... :whistle2:

One thing that will I will have to forget..if Cally ends up being her first name..is that scene where Adama talks to Cally on the flight deck about the Pegasus Civilian Chief. I dont picture a Commander addressing a Specialist by her first name; and Galactica has been praised for its accurate portrayal of the military IRL.

Believe me I am anxiously awaiting too!

Well, they've shown that Adama cares very much for his crew, is on close terms with them and is beloved by the crew. He even calls Dualla "Dee" as a nickname. Plus he calls pilot Starbuck "Kara". It just shows that he knows everyone really well because he's a commander that is on close terms with his crew.

Solium - July 26, 2006 10:16 AM (GMT)
Good observations Mero. Also Adama seems to say, "Cally" like it is a first name. When someone calls them by their last name, either in the military, on a sports team or at work, its usually more "forceful" sounding, than if you address someone by their first name.

V - July 26, 2006 09:32 PM (GMT)
I've checked, and although I have not definatively checked every line of dialogue, I now think that at no time was Cally ever actually called "Specialist Cally" as if that was her last name.

V - July 26, 2006 09:38 PM (GMT)
****CONFIRMATION****

YES, her name is "Cally Henderson"

YES, she now uses the surname "Tyrol" after marrying him (the Colonials are kind of gender blind in many respects so I wasn't sure if she would, but yes she will) so her full name is "Cally Henderson Tyrol" now.

----->Naught but half and hour ago, Bradley Thompson confirmed this on BattlestarWiki:

Bradley Thompson said:

I'm not sure when we established Cally's surname as Henderson, but it's been in and out of several scripts. I know we originally had it in a line during the webisodes, but it vanished during a later draft. The art department has been using it to label her clothing, lockers, etc, since Ron christened her. She took Tyrol as her last name when she married the chief.
"

Through episode 13 (What's currently done) they have not yet established which Colony she is from, though of course that could be said of many characters.

Fan-tast-ic!

And on my first day as a Moderator of the Nicki Clyne Fansite; great news to start the first day on the job with.

AWESOME NEWS MERO! You have the goods and the contacts.

I am really happy with this! I always liked Cally being her first name, and Nicki wanted to be "Cally" too! :D

V - July 26, 2006 09:59 PM (GMT)
As I've always said, Solium, "I'm just a humble trafficker of information"

But this is great!

***Hey, Ron Moore always prides himself on how, unlike during the declining years on Star Trek where the executive producers ORDERED the actors around and didn't let them input anything, on BSG they actually listen to the actors and let them input their own stuff. Perhaps he made Cally her first name at her suggestion? More probably, I would think, it's the mechanics of that we know this character as "Cally" and after marrying Tyrol, they can't just cally her "Tyrol" all the time, they need to differentiate the two, so it makes sense to keep "Cally" as her first name.

Excellent. Not a "small" (faa!) character without a full name anymore.

they can't just cally her

:rofl2:

But thanks for the confirmation.

Honestly, I don't like her new name. While I'm totally fine and happy with the character's average-American-girl aspect, I would have preferred a surname a little more uncommon.

In fact, I'm somewhat disappointed that the authors seemed to prefer normal North American names lately, with Foster, Anders, Henderson and so on.

Jeez, can't they see I love the names of Thrace and Tyrol and Adama so much?

Average American girl born and raised in Vancouver Canada! :rofl2:

A tip of the hat to Canada? Perhaps!

Believe me I am happy about Cally being her first name....it is so much easier to refer her character to that name.

You're actually probably right there, Tyrol simply refers to her as "Cally" as do her comrades. However, in Litmus, Socinus is referred to as "Specialist Socinus" in Roslin's address on the bombing, which leads to speculation on the nomenclature of the other engineers, namely "Jammer." That being said, I guess Socinus is a last name now, while Cally is most definitely a first, making her "Specialist Tyrol nee Henderson."
