JANUARY 23, 2007 - Diamond Select Toys & Collectibles, LLC (DST) is proud to announce a licensing agreement with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group to manufacture action figures and ships based on the SCI FI Channel hit original series, Battlestar Galactica. Reimagined by Ronald D. Moore, Battlestar Galactica tells the story of the last survivors of mankind and their quest to escape the murderous Cylons in their search for the mythical 13th Colony, Earth.
"With Battlestar Galactica, it was an incredibly easy decision to make," said Diamond Select Toys Marketing and Sales Supervisor, Michael Leavey. "We quickly added it to our library of properties and, as with our Star Trek and Stargate lines, we immediately began building a whole universe of Galactica products.”

Battlestar Galactica premiered as a mini-series in 2003 to rave reviews from both critics and fans of the classic property, setting viewership records for the SCI FI Channel. Leaving much of traditional science fiction behind, the new Battlestar Galactica instead focused on character-driven conflicts and the series’ epic storytelling style as viewers followed the triumphs and hardships of the Colonial Fleet. Having received the prestigious American Film Institute’s honorific “TV Program of the Year” for the second consecutive year, the stellar drama returns to the SCI FI Channel on January 21, 2007 in a new timeslot; Sunday evenings at 10:00 pm EST.

In addition to the riveting plots and special effects, Battlestar Galactica features an incredibly diverse cast of characters portrayed by a mix of seasoned veterans and Hollywood newcomers. Accomplished actors Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell provide the necessary leadership as Admiral Adama and President Roslin, with a sizable supporting cast featuring the talents of Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Grace Park. With guest stars like Lucy Lawless, Dean Stockwell and Battlestar Galactica veteran Richard Hatch, this impressive cast steals the show and delivers rock-solid performances week after week.

This new licensing agreement expands upon Art Asylum’s previous arrangement to produce Minimates, resin statues and busts based on the red hot sci-fi franchise. With sculpts already well underway, DST plans to release the first action figure assortment this summer. The debut series will feature several key characters from the smash-hit series, including the seductive Six. Specific product announcements, as well as timetables for their release dates, will be featured in future Diamond Select Toys communications, and at the upcoming International Toy Fair.

For the love of god, I already own literally 75 Lord of the Rings action figures (every one except Wormtongue....he's impossible to find)

I'll get the Cally one....but who else to get?

I don't want more than 3 or so.

I guess it will depend on the quality of each and what accessories they come with.

That’s a mighty impressive collection of LOTR's action figures you have "V". Where do you store them all?

The collectible action figure market has improved a great deal the last 15 years. High quality, accurate, and figures that usually look like the characters/actors they are supposed to represent.

The collectible field is to vast for me to get into however I would probably loose the shirt off my back. Star Trek TOS is something I would collect if I choose too.

That said, I do have a great interest in the BSG TNS figures. Maybe because its "new". I plan to get most of the characters if I choose to start collecting them.

Ok, so am I the only one wondering how Hotdog and Anders get released BEFORE CALLY!? <_<

Ugh, Anders the most over exposed and least relevant character. Of course I guess that all changed with the mid season final.

I think its cool that Hotdog is getting released and I expected Anders, but NOT in the first series of action figures.

I must assume they feel they need to put in a few less sellable characters in the combo packs in order to justify producing the lesser characters.

Still NO word on a Cally action figure. I don’t even think the Cally Mini Mates has been released yet. <_<

Tell us a bit about the first series of figures—which characters will be represented, and how will fans be able to get them?

Jean and his team are working literally around the clock to get this ready for approval and production. We’d love to launch the line at Wizard World Chicago [August 9-12]. Apollo and Red Dress Six are the regular case for the first assortment, with Hot Dog being the short-packed figure. Six in a black dress is the Previews Exclusive, Chief is a DST exclusive, Helo is an Action Figure Xpress exclusive, and Anders is a Suncoast/FYE exclusive.

Sadly Cally did not make the mold once again. Diamond Select toys has announced the next set of figures in their BSG line. I am sure many will be saying, "It's about time" the heavy hitters are getting the action figure treatment. But I am sadden by the lack of news of a Cally action figure. :(
