Title: Question about Bastille Day
Description: Kind of like a poll too...

So, as many of us know, Callyness was slated to be killed in Bastille day, but they changed their minds. I'm just curious, who among you would still watch the show and who would just get completely turned off from it if they had gone through with the death of our muffin-queen?

I don't know... seeing her die may have just torn me apart, which sucks because it's such a good show! But the episode itself, the attempted rape and all, was shocking enough. I mean sheesh...
what do you guys think?

Solium - August 20, 2007 10:39 AM (GMT)
Honestly I don't think I would have stopped watching BSG regardless of who they kill. It has such a strong cast.

That was also a very early episode before Cally had much "history" with the series. I WAS very nervous watching that episode however! I thought she was dead for sure... I would have been a lot more upset if they killed Cally on Kobal. She was really starting to develop as a character and I believed if she survived Kobal, Cally would have a long run with the series.

I never believed they would kill her in the Occupation story arc, so I wasn't worried.

oh~ the same for me, Sol.
I was really really nervous that episode... :o
But I would still keep watching the show too. It would be sad really if they would let her die... but it wouldn't keep me from watching the rest of the show though. It's just too great... hihihi~ :whistle2:

Solium - August 22, 2007 10:45 AM (GMT)
Cally is such an iconic character to me. I hope Nicki can top "Cally" in her career, but it would have to be one awesome roll and script. Hopefully when BSG ends she can reinvent herself for a new series and new character.

Lex - August 23, 2007 10:06 AM (GMT)
To be honest with you, I became a Nicki fan AFTER I saw her live on stage at Battlestar Atlantia. Bastille day was long before that.
But I always liked Cally. I would've been disappointed about her death in Bastille Day (or in Season 4), but that won't stop me from watching my favourite TV show.

Darth Coffee - August 23, 2007 04:04 PM (GMT)
Before Bastille Day, I thought she was a cute and likable character that gave us a familiar face for when little details was needed (like StarTrek's Nurse Chappel, or Yeoman Rand aka blonde chick that gave Kirk things to sign). They were not big enough roles to develope a deep appreciation for her yet, but she was the familiar go-to person when a particular role/scene needed that little extra something. I think the deep appreciation for Cally and Nicki began during Bastille Day and particularly when Cally and the others on the Raptor boarded the prison ship. Cally seemed very focused on the mission at hand.

Now, as for BSG without Cally. I think many of the more drama oriented episodes would have caused me to loose interest in the show. There's more drama than sci-fi with BSG.

Knaves - August 23, 2007 06:07 PM (GMT)
I didn't even start watching until Flight of the Phoenix, so I think I could watch with a little more relaxation about her character being killed off when I got a hold of season one and the first part of season two. I do think I may have wandered away during the latter half of the second season and not come back after the long hiatus for the third if Cally had been killed off.

That's actually one of the reasons why I like BSG so much :$ :P

This is what attracted me to Cally so much. While the rest of the cast were fighting Cylons and fighting among themselves, Cally was always the loyal hard worker. She had no agenda, no ego to push around, no plans of her own. She just wanted to do her best with what life had given her. It was about surviving and being a team player.

They tried to make her more controversial in later seasons, but I don’t think she has changed all that much in the fact she just wants to live a happy little life and wants to be left alone.

I don't think I would stop watching if they had killed Cally, I like the show. (Ok I like most Sci-Fi but BSG has that... extra think... you can't put your finger on).

I just got back from france (Still unpacking!!! and I'm here reading already, lol) and watched the Season 2.0 DVD box I had with me (the one I had a friend send from the US of A).

The only episode sofar I like less (not dislike just like less) is Pegasus (last one I've seen)... that Admiral Cain gives me the creeps, Not sure if she is ment to seem so cold and handless but if it is the actress does a wonderful job playing her!) Thats the kind of person you would want to 'accidentally' be in a room that is violently decompressed.

Lex - August 26, 2007 12:38 PM (GMT)
You DON'T like Pegasus? Well, that's a new one...

And yes, Cain was supposed to be that cold. There's a movie coming up, "Battlestar Galactica: Razor", telling Cain's story during the original Cylon attack.

Oh, and I realy thing you gonna like "Ressurection Ship 2" ;)

sjorge - August 26, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
Well on my 2.5 box set there is an extended version... so I'll watch it again.
This time going to try and pay attention to the other things instead of how *insert cursewords* Cain is.

And what is this Razor thing you are talking about?

Lex - August 26, 2007 07:00 PM (GMT)
Razor is an upcoming stand alone television film about the Battlestar Pegasus during the original attacks. I don't want to spoiler you, so I don't tell any details. If you want, you can check out this page at battlestar wiki.

Sci Fi will air it late november, the DVD release is shortly after the airing, in early december.

Solium - August 26, 2007 07:07 PM (GMT)
Note: While Nicki Clyne is "credited" as being in the telefilm we do not know if its going to be "original content" or previously filmed "flashbacks". Also note some of the major stars have extremely limited screen time. So I don’t expect much of the original TV series cast in Razor.

sjorge - August 26, 2007 07:33 PM (GMT)
Guess when S3 is released on dvd I'll need to see if any of my US friends are willing to forward S3 + Razor :)

I was part of the handful of people on the boards going OMG Cally! since the Miniseries and such, BEFORE "Bastille Day", after which she became the "forum darling"

(sigh).....you know the sad thing is that Season 3 EFFECTIVELY killed off Cally by not giving her ANYTHING to do....but that could be said of all the female cast members.....

ccat - August 28, 2007 03:39 PM (GMT)
Oh~ I still have to watch season3... she doesn't get anything to do anymore in season3? That's a pity... -_-"

Well, "V" meant nothing in the lines of the Kobal story arc in the second season. I wont give anything away, but she is in great pearl early in the third season and she takes on a more motherly roll which is to be expected with having a child.

I actually believe Cally matured in the third season. While she didn’t get into any of the major story arcs, she had a presence and complemented Tyrols involvement in the series. Like the second season she was "MIA" for most of the middle of the third season.

But she got some good character development the last half of the third season and a major episode with Tyrol.

 Uh... you haven't visited the boards lately, have you? "Forum darling"? These days, there are less Cally supporters on Skiffy than fingers on my hands.

Anyway, in contrast to The Great V who apparently was a Cally fan even before the Mini aired , I am just a humble mainstream fan who only noticed her later in the first season, and did not begin seriously appreciating her until after he had the pleasure of meeting Nicki back in January '06. I guess, I'm not even qualified to call myself a true fan. :P

Accordingly, while I'd miss Cally and her interaction with Boomer and the Chief very much, I'd still enjoy the show even if TPTB decided to kill her off. Oh, and I wasn't really frightened in "Bastille Day" because, at that point, I hadn't realized yet that BSG is quite a dangerous show for secondary characters.

ccat - August 29, 2007 10:57 AM (GMT)
ohh~ maybe a silly question.... but what is Skiffy? :)

Lex - August 29, 2007 11:08 AM (GMT)
Skiffy -> SciFi.com, or the SciFi message board

Knaves - August 31, 2007 12:07 AM (GMT)
I still laugh when I see it typed as skiffy, well..I inwardly chuckle now rather than outright laugh.

Oh nothing like that at all Pedda; I just meant I was a big fan of her character since the Miniseries (which is weird; it's just I thought "hey I hope they use her more") and I'm not "Great" or anything, I'm just humble "V" :)

***Yes, I know what happened with the skiffy boards and Cally and everything with season 3--->I meant back in the days of season 2.0 she was really popular on the boards.

If you haven't seen season 3: Cally gets great stuff in the "New Caprica" arc of the beginning of the season but....well it's not that "Cally didn't do well" it's that "the entire series, Cally included, stopping being as good after the New Caprica arc"

lots of sloppy scripts. I.e. Cally and Tyrol are actually supposed to be centered on in one episode, but they keep pushing so many Adama flashbacks in the episode that it just didn't work; it was heavily rewritten and they just stopped giving Cally good lines. That's not to say Cally was "in persistent whine mode and its her fault".....MOST of the characters on the show (ROSLIN, Apollo, Starbuck, etc.) had really awful dialogue as the season progressed.

CptKayleeAdama - December 5, 2007 07:53 PM (GMT)
When I started watching the show, Lee , Kara, and Laura were my main focus, mainly because I'd seen Bamber, Sackoff , and McDonald in things before that, but I became pretty attached to Cally beggining of S2 when they were on Kobol. When I learned about how they were going to kill her in Bastille Day I was shocked, but happy (obviously) that they didn't. I would still watch the show because I'm attached to the other three I mentioned, but it would still have an air of sorrow, especially for Galen and Lee, if she had died. Galen because she is his right hand, and Lee because he would have felt responsible for her death.

Solium - December 5, 2007 11:32 PM (GMT)
I love most of the cast as well, yet Cally is special cause shes a special girl.

CptKayleeAdama - December 11, 2007 03:34 AM (GMT)
She's the quirky yet fiesty small statured soldier.
