Question 1 - Oh God they mention the corn muffin joke... :cornmuffins:
Question 2 - Guh...the old series....well I think she puts it as politely and as best as it can be said; it's not the same show, the old show was actually pretty good considering it was for a 70's audience, and *nothing* else was out there, but its not comparable to the re-imagining.
Question 3 - Wasn't a lot to work with the character of Cally; lots of Cally is kind of Nicki's own personality. Character never really meant to be as prominent as she became. ***why do the writers think Cally can be "bitchy" so easily?
Question 4 - It's been confirmed she's not a Cylon.
Question 5 - Attracted to being a lowerdecks grunt crewman? Not particularly, but does show the humanity of the Everyman. Cally is an Everyperson. Struggle with the same issues we do; they're not born into privileged situations or anything.
Question 6 - how much backstory does she develop? motivation is up to the actors, but the writers write the script. Nicki had no idea about "dental school" in Fragged- out of left field.
Question 7 - most memorable scene? - building relationship between Cally and Tyrol. Plus getting shot. Fake blood is corn syrup; covered in it; not fun.
Question 8 - ever gotten a script where you just had to tell the writers "Cally wouldn't do that"? - yeah all the time; the BSG writers are famous for being really open and listening to cast input.
Question 9 - how much of the show is green screen? what's that like? - well Cally doesn't do a lot of green screen; only thing is that the longwise shot of the hangar deck stretching into the distance is a green screen but the main section of the hangar is just this massive set. And of course the "Day in the Life" episode where they get shot out of an airlock.
Question 10 - a BSG theme is how religion guides people's actions - is what way is BSG a comment on religion in politics and on public life? That's why the show's great; it's more than just an exploding ships show, it makes you think.
Science fiction is great because it can get away with a lot of stuff that is just fantasy It's not just a show about special effects.
Question 11 - Will Nicki do Bionic Woman (ugh) - Nicki said no. "Perhaps David Eick doesn't like me" - yes, many actors appear on pretty much all the Vancouver area scifi shows when they have small parts.
Question 12 - How much freedom does the series and you guys as actors have to cover the issues they bring up? - Mary McDonnell was always a strong advocate that women on the series are presented with dignity
Question 13 - How far do you want to push Cally on the show? What's her journey looking like? - hard to answer as they haven't seen season 3....
Question 14 - Think they might bring the show back for another season if it does well? (ugh) or at least a DVD movie? "is it really the last season"? -- it's the last season; this is a GOOD thing. It would be bad to see the show drag on for 9 seasons and the quality drop to nothing. Better to go out on top. There's always the possibility of movie specials or something but there are no plans.
Question 15 - What are Nicki's plans after Battlestar? - starting a business with some friends from Smallville (that college student website thing), learning to sing, workin' on a couple of things, maybe a few movies, who knows.
Question 16 - want to write or direct? - started the show when she was 19 years old; didn't have a plan for what beyond this. Acting is just one way to express yourself.
Question 17 - when will the Cally action figure come out from the BSG action figure guys? would you own one? well yeah of course. she is aware of the minimates. "where is the love for Cally?!" -- Nicki
Question 18 - beginning of season 2, lots of controversy, did this make people second guess stuff? etc. -- whether its positive or negative its good that people react. At the end of the day, it's just a TV show, but it does raise questions and issues and stuff.
Question 19 - what is Olmos like as a person? -- coolest guy. EvER! Most generous guy you've ever met. Down to earth, fun, an inspiration. He's struggled to be where he is..."he doesn't have a lead-actor face, in case you didn't notice"
