evancol - October 29, 2007 08:46 AM (GMT)
So I'm breaking my rule .... only have two videos of this one. Hopefully some nice person will offer up another one (or two, or three).

But, I LOVE this song, and Taylor is incredible, so......

Happier With Him - Millersville mp3

(if you tried this earlier and were locked out, it is working now...thanks)

Fabulous song...hearing him sing this live is quite an experience. I like the Millersville version, because he was a little playful and relaxed at first, and then so very into this song there. I am hoping other versions from other venues turn up...I don't think he did this song as often as others.

Great song. Heartbreaking song.

Out of these two my favorite would definitely be the Millersville one. He didnt seem as "sad" during that one. He did seem more upbeat. Not that the song doesnt garner down emotions...

Millersville hands down for me!! Just the fact that I had the opportunity
to see him sing this song live was incredible. It was a very
funny start to this sad song - but he does a great job with it.
Lots of emotion in his performance.

:) Loved, loved, loved the Millersville performance!!! :lilheart The playful antics with the audience before the song were so funny, and produced so many of those "killer" smiles I love to see on Taylor's face!! But the song itself -- WOW!!! What a GREAT performance -- so heartfelt, such passion!! It really "moved" me!! Awesome!! :lilheart

I am not a fan of acoustic guitar, but Taylor's voice makes it compelling.

HAGERSTOWN:

"Happier With Him" is a powerful story. I felt as if I was intruding on a very personal , private moment. I was almost embarrassed to be a witness to this dramatic rendition. Pure passion.

MILLERSVILLE:

You have to love the raised eyebrow, the sly grin and the humble retort; Taylor's facial expressions were very Elvisesque !!

Millersville seemed more of a story to music , while Hagerstown was a poignant narrative where the music was secondary. The intensity levels were so different.

Which one did I prefer: Probably Millersville, because it was more entertaining for me, but I was rapted by Taylor's passion in Hagerstown.

I love both of them, such wonderful performances, I can only Imagine how great it was to be there in person. :clap

I haven't seen this particular Hagerstown video before- I've only seen the very close-up one, where you could even see the drop of sweat running down his face. When I first saw that one, I had this awful feeling that something had gone wrong with his relationship with Caroline and he was singing this because of that. It was like every bad thing that had ever happened to him was put out in this song, and maybe we were seeing something very personal and very private. In the close-up video, near the end, he gives a look right into the camera that made me think he was saying "Get that thing out of my face!" I was in tears when it finished.

Millersville did not have that private feel to it. He was very playful and interacting with the audience- just having fun, and for entertainment quality, this is the video I would choose, but for experiencing something very special, Hagerstown is my choice as favourite.

Well, I thought I was going to be the 'Oddball' here but thanx to Sallyann, she saved me! My opinion ~ Most definately 'Hagerstown'. The playful side of Taylor is something we've come to Love & expect BUT this song screams 'Intensity & In-Depth sharing; telling the story as it was! The vocals were purely golden & the body language he displays 'fits' the song.

Millersville; from what I understand, is a 'hands on' experience for many & I can see where it would be one that affects the decision. Great facial expressions; Love the sly smile & comeback, but again ~ Playful at first; then moving into an intensely emotional song, for me was like trying to mix oil & water.

This is such a heartbreaking song, so I would have to pick Hagerstown. The performance is one of complete, pure, raw emotion. He is completely lost in the song, so much so that you can't help but feel the pain of the singer, which to me is what makes a great performance. (And I don't mean to imply it as being real pain to mirror a real-life situation, but just a singer who is totally throwing himself into a song, making it an amazing performance.)

I'd agree with what gr8fulheart said about Millersville.

PayTheDevil - November 3, 2007 09:22 AM (GMT)
Hearing this song live, reminded me that he is a REAL performer. He interprets the songs, he does not merely sing them. The song crushed my heart.

They say the best singers are great actors. Taylor dramatized the song perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed the Millersville performance.

Gypsee - November 3, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
I agree, PAY...I was so hoping you got a video of this too. I love this song...sigh.

Just a quick update.

I added a link to an mp3 of the Millersville version of Happier With Him in the original post.

Gypsee - November 5, 2007 01:45 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the mp3!

evancol - November 5, 2007 04:40 PM (GMT)

My apologies if you have tried to download the mp3 and were locked out. I don't normally post my sendspace links and I have a lock out limit of 10 (long story).

I have removed the lock, so feel free.

Again, my apologies.

Thanks for the MP3 link -

These are both such great performances - I really felt the intense emotion of the Hagerstown version - very moving and so beautiful!! But being a part of the perfomance of this song at Millersville and watching him enjoy it so much . . . . . I just have to go with Millerville -

tishlp - November 15, 2007 02:52 AM (GMT)
For me it was Hagerstown. I almost couldn't breath after watching that one. That was one of the most amazing performances of a song I've ever seen. However I can't watch it very often. I think I've only watched it a total of maybe 5 times, it's too painful. What is really funny is that when my husband watched it he immediately asked if Taylor had lost his girlfriend. Now that's a convincing performance.

Millerville was fun, but it just didn't have the emotional impact as Hagerstown.
