Title: Lowdown

evancol - November 12, 2007 08:12 AM (GMT)
One of my favorite of the covers. He could have done this one every show and I would not have complained.

GREAT choice...I also love this cover. Taylor just does it with so much style...and he doesn't do it at enough show...

mouser - November 13, 2007 12:31 AM (GMT)
Well, well, well, what to say about these three. Sooooooooo different.

Bloomsburg: The lack of flute as an intro ( because it was not included on the video as I am sure it was performed ) was sorely missed. The emphasis on Josh and Boogie was welcomed right after Taylor had begun the initial verse; then WOW , that scatting and riffing was intense. A truly complete performance

Jones Beach: This rendition seemed to feature the band from beginning to end. Easy does it, smooth and flowing , Taylor singing the song , swaying to the vibe..... A little guitar , a little bass, a little flute, a little drum equals a lot of instrumental for this performance.

Portland : Although there was the expected highlighting of the band, this was a more animated Taylor with a more animated vocal of "LowDown" . His body language was quieter, but his voice was strong.

For the awesome improvisation alone, I would cast my vote for Bloomsburg.
For utilizing the band and the voice , I would have to go with Jones Beach.
For personal enjoyment of Taylor's voice , I would have to go with Portland.

BUT YA CAN'T BEAT THAT SCATTING FROM BLOOMSBURG.............. FABULOUS.

Gypsee - November 13, 2007 12:33 AM (GMT)
Mouse, I agree...anything with scatting gets my vote!

sallyannlady - November 14, 2007 12:45 PM (GMT)
Did I miss something with the Portland video? The one here only lasted about 40 seconds, hardly long enough to see anything. Even when I downloaded the Sendspace file, it didn't last any longer. Very disappointing, since I love this song.

The other two, I loved.

Bloomsburg: fantastic, except for missing a bit at the beginning. I loved the way Taylor looked, the way he moved, his vocals, facial expressions, the way the band was highlighted. Stepping back out of the spotlight when others were featured is, IMHO, very classy. Loved loved loved the scatting- not easy to do, but he makes it sound effortless.

Jones Beach: great video, right from the intro on through. He sounded like he was enjoying it, and the smiles he gave partway thru showed that he was. Good band highlights.

My vote? Bloomsburg.

Portland is short for me too. It may be that we didn't have the full song on the server. I will check to see if I have a full version somewhere from that venue :)

sallyannlady - November 14, 2007 02:33 PM (GMT)
Thanks- I wondered, because it sounds like Mouser got more of the song, from her review.

Gypsee - November 14, 2007 03:42 PM (GMT)
I got half or most of the song, but the wmv itself is a small file. I am still checking to see if I have the entire song from there.

***ETA***
Thatparticular file is not the entire song, so we have to be content with a portion :)

Try this : Thanks to skeeter226 for the video

Thanks mouser! Skeeter always gives me her video, so I can't imagine why I don't have this one....lol. I am going to add it to our server.

I Love this song!! These are all great performances, of course!!

But my favorite of the three was Bloomsburg - everything about it was SOOO good - I really loved the way he highlighted the band members - But I had never heard him do the scatting before, and I thought it just blended into this particular song so well; the scatting alone really made the decision on which performance to choose - got to choose Bloomsburg! :)

but all three were great performances of one of my favorites -

Oh my, I just have to amend my answer - but I thought I would leave my original post too, just for clarity;

When I posted my answer yesterday, I had only seen the 3 original videos posted by evancol, and I had not even noticed the longer Portland version by Skeeter (posted by Mouser) - Thanks so much!!

I must say I have to change my vote to Portland after seeing the longer version - absolutely spectacular performance!! As much as I still love the scatting he did at Bloomsburg, the Portland performance is my favorite! Thanks again for posting the full video -

how is that for confusing? No seriously, that is why I love this Take 2 feature so much! It gives us all a chance to experience performances we might not otherwise have the opportunity to hear; and it is great fun to read everyone's different "take" on all these fabulous performances!! :)

Gypsee - November 18, 2007 08:41 PM (GMT)
I agree, Pat...Take2 is a blast and it does give us a chance to discuss without the frenzy of new tour media every other day, altho I DO miss seeing Taylor onstage :)

Definitely - Taylor live is the BEST!! But this is a great second best, while he is temporarily away! :)

loripjb - November 24, 2007 05:00 PM (GMT)
Didnt even see that this song was added. :)

My favorite of these 3 is definitely Bloomsburg. Just the whole feel of the show during that performance....GREAT!!!

He always does this song great though I think. Its one of my favorites!!

Gypsee - November 24, 2007 05:14 PM (GMT)
This one is for sure a crowd pleasing favorite and also one of mine!

Gr8fulheart - November 25, 2007 02:22 AM (GMT)
To agree with Pat, the full version of Portland shows a great performance BUT still it's Bloomsburg All The Way For Me! I get so 'wound up' just watching the intensity of this performance. The head & body movements ~ the scatting ~ facial expressions ~ vocals. Everything flows so freely from within him & the Bloomsburg performance stands as proof! Oh Yeah 'BLOOMSBURG'! :thud2

concertcris - November 28, 2007 04:42 PM (GMT)
:hearts I loved all 3 of the videos. This is also one of my favorite songs. However Taylor could sing me the phone book and I would love it! :thud

Thanks for posting them! :clap

tishlp - December 1, 2007 04:08 AM (GMT)
Bloomsburg, hands down for me. The scatting was absolutely the best evah!

I'm a slave to good scatting. :)
