Title: Adeptus Astartes 'Last Chancers'
Falyaet Morphaeus - June 8, 2008 04:59 PM (GMT)
Ok an.....um...interesting... house rule that we've instated is a new unit that could be used for either the SM or IG. Its actually a terrorist unit. Its a person whom has chosen to sacrifce himself for the Emperor's glory, and has strapped bombs to himself. You can make him have a Melta grenade, Krak Grenade, Vortex, etc.... and additional ones at only +5 points each! However, when the terrorist unit detonates himself, he is counted as an immediate casualty, but think of the damage he can wreak!
Dont worry about the str/tough etc... stats. All you need are the stats for the grenades, amount of them, and movement. ^_^
Have fun.

The concept of human-bombs has been well used in 40K, old Penal-Legion troopers often volunteered for the job. If they survived they were free, if not then they were scattered in lots of little pieces.
Im not sure how balanced your current rule proposal is, it could probably use a little more refining and definition.
What certainly seems in need of refining is your use of language regarding your ideas, especially terms such as "Jihadists". You don't want to end up offending someone.
Just my thoughts,

Well, again, its a house rule so its fairly rough. We basically count it as a self moving grenade with the death of the unit carrying on a 1/2 survival chance on a d6 roll (1-3 death, 4-6 survive).

So unless you have a vortex grenade, you can only kill one person/tank?

I'd be careful with the name of this thread. The term jihad means holy or righteous struggle, and a huge percent of Muslims would see it as a struggle against any evil, not specifically through war or fighting. It also wouldn't be a jiohadist, it would be mujahideen, which, even though it is the name of a prominent terrorist group, means warriors or those who struggle. Obviously there is much more to the controvery over jihad, as usually it is seen by the West as a bad thing, and usually that it means to fight, but this is a stereotype. I'm sorry to get off topic, I just don't want any Muslim members of the forum to be offended. Also, I'm sorry if this sounds like I'm trying to be an annoying pr**k, I don't mean to, I just mean to try and keep peace.

I don't think the concept would work well for Marines, considering how rare and valuable they are (in terms of e.g. their equipment and the effort that goes into training and biologically enhancing them!).

This rule isnt so great for astartes, possibly enemy forces on a non imperial world (talking pre heresy here) its a good idea, or possibly even some sort of attached imperial army group of the word bearers?

I'm going to go ahead and say that this is probably the most stupid thing I have ever heard of. ONLY the Penal legion would do this. Even a Guard Commander values his troops. It would never work for the Imperials. Chaos cultists maybe and even then only the Alpha Legion had rules for them in the old codex and since it is no longer usable, there are no more rules for Chaos cultists. Well, you could play corrupted Guard or use the IA:V Vraksian list. Plus, only the Vortex grenade would be able to wound troops. Frag, Krak, and Melta grenades are used on tanks. Another thing, I have several friends that I have known for over a decade and they are devout Muslims. It would be kind and respectful to remove this ignorant post.
Now that I have my ranting out of the way, I am going to go ahead and say that this would have to be play tested.

Dude, Corax, I tried to explain how wrong it is! Hope you're not mad at me! :(
