I think you found gold my friend.
I'm testing it out right now on my PH fists(siege themed)
Magos Explorator - June 11, 2008 04:21 PM (GMT)
Looks like a good approach. :) I'm in the middle of putting together a similar tutorial, which I was going to post; perhaps I'll move to this method instead now... We'll see.

I just finished basecoating my flamer trooper I hav'nt highlighted yet but I did the yellow wash on his beak and it is terrific.
the key is the smooth even basecoat
This will be my new method but I do want to try a chestnut ink with red instead of brown next and put up a poll which one looks best
Rogal Dorn - June 11, 2008 07:03 PM (GMT)
ive tried chestnut, black, brown, and flesh
and i honestly prefer the brown
_____
also, matte medium works just as well as washing liquid...though it wont leave ur marines smelling like a spring meadow :P (like mine did)

Have you seen how they've done yellow on page 41 of the new painting guide?
BigWill - June 11, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
I have, the drybrush portion is not right for Marine armor it makes it look blotchy

it says basecoat blazing orange, heavly drybrush white, the use the new gryphone sepia wash same as pg 37 in the old book but the old one says yellow ink.
I'm getting a good result by going by the guide after the brown ink stage,I hit it with the grophone sepia for shading then I will go over it with vomit brown, highlight then ink.
Rogal Dorn - June 12, 2008 03:04 AM (GMT)
ok ive tried that...boo....i much prefer this method
BigWill - June 12, 2008 05:18 AM (GMT)

Looking at your chequer effect and your yellows, I bet that you could paint a mean Lamenter marine - just a thought ;)
Excuse me for the heresy of suggesting a non-PH legion :P
