Presently, I don't think any member of the Forum knows if any Legion had symbols at that time!
It could all have been down to colour schemes.
Though that is doubtful.

I think back then it was all down to Legion markings. Could be wrong though. Seconding Gagoc on this one.

I believe it was a male hen standing atop two bowling balls, and was affectionately known as the 'cock & balls' by members of the legion.

So, we're looking at XIV and lightning bolts?

humourless bunch of b*****ds :D Be careful of your language please.
I thought it was funny Pacific, you'll just have to come up with a banner design now-Vespasian.

I found it funny... :D
From what Vespasian and Big Will said, it would seem they developed some heraldry for the Dusk Raiders. Might help to ask them...

The simple answer is no. Unfortunately as yet there has been no symbol mentioned. However it is possible to invent your own symbol from the details that we do know about:
'They had been the Dusk Raiders, so known because of their signature tactic of attacking a foe at nightfall....The symbology of the armour showed their foes what they truly were - the Emperor's red right hand, the relentless and unstoppable. Many enemies had thrown down their weapons the moment the sun dipped beneath the horizon, rather than dare to fight them.' The Flight of the Eisenstein Page 118-119
I noticed a strong emphasis placed on the name of the Dusk Raiders and its link with their method of attack. So when BigWill wanted an idea for a device he could use I suggested the following:

As for iconography I would suggest using somthing that reflects and illustrates their name (The Dusk Raiders), yet which also partly ties in with the iconography they would come to use when they became the Death Guard.
So my suggestion for the Dusk Raiders is this: a setting sun on the horizon, which encompasses at its centre a skull motif. |
Its totally unofficial as a symbol, but I think that it really works well.
BigWill also augmented and improved this idea, by including an aurora around the edge of the setting sun. We also worked together on creating a Dusk Raiders banner which I think looks great.

Here is a pic of what I came up with using Vespasian's Ideas

I tried to make it where you could kind of see where the DG got thier icon from
a 40k version of Death with his head halo'd by the setting sun
For the badge I used sgt Haas pads and cut the sun in half then g/s'd a skull in the middle
very similar to the DG symbol

Personally, I think it's too similar. They weren't associated with death - other than that of their enemies (as all space marines are) - at that time... It just seems to prescient (sp?).

I thought that it fitted really well because of the strong implication given of death coming at dusk to those who do not lay down their arms...oh well.
Still it would be good to hear your ideas for a possible design Weiss.
