Excellent list Apologist. I do have a few amendments and corrections for the entry for Ullanor.

It was actually on Gorro rather than Ullanor that the Emperor was throttled by an Ork Warlord:

QUOTE (Index Astartes)
On the Ork-infested planet of Gorro, Horus repaid the debt by hacking the arm from a huge, frenzied Greenskin warlord as it struggled to choke the Emperor's life out of him.

Also the Luna Wolves did not change their name to the Sons of Horus after the battle. The honour was offered by the Emperor at Ullanor but declined by Horus. It was not untill later, just prior to leaving for the Davin System, that it was adopted and proclaimed by Horus (Horus Rising, Page 411-412).

Excellent list, I just want to know the background sources of this one-

Tallarn
* Temperate world virus-bombed by Iron Warriors.
* Site of battle between Iron Warriors and Imperial Army.
* Largest tank battle of the Horus Heresy.
* Eldar have interest in mysterious 'Ring' beneath surface.

I love the Iron Warriors and any details on how to find more about this interesting topic would be appreciated.

From memory (sorry!) the best source for the tank battle reference is the second edition Codex: Imperial Guard, though there are hints in Adeptus Titanicus and first edition Space Marine, I believe. I wouldn't get your hopes up, mind – I'm fairly sure it's simply a one line entry in each case, saying 'largest tank battle of the Horus Heresy'.

The 'ring' the eldar are interested in was referenced in a battle report (possibly short story?) in WD – I think around the 185–195 mark, when the Tallarn models were released.

Mem-wafers are failing, so can anyone provide a more complete explanation?

The Red Sorcerer - December 9, 2008 11:34 AM (GMT)
There was a series of 'Famous Regiments of the Imperial Guard' articles published in White Dwarf when the metal squads for the various regiments were released. They used to be on the old GW Website but are one of the (many  ) articles that have not made it on to the new one. The gist was that the Iron Warriors attacked the planet during the Heresy, first virus-bombing the planet (Tallarn used to be a lush temperate world before this). Due to the residual toxins, the battle for the planet developed into purely a tank battle as the toxic environment was too hazardous to infantry. The IW were eventually fought off after massive losses on both sides, although the reason for their interest in the planet was not discovered until much later.

Many millennia later Tallarn miners discovered a massive mysterious structure underground. They were midway through continuing to uncover it when the Eldar attacked the planet - the structure was an ancient summoning circle known as the Cursus that when activated fully would turn the planet into a daemonworld. The Eldar suspected the Tallarn had been corrupted by Chaos, but when they discovered the truth the two joined forces to combat the waves of daemons that were now emerging from the Cursus. Eventually the Eldar/human alliance managed to defeat the forces of Chaos and the Eldar sealed the Cursus for all time, swearing eternal freindship with the men of Tallarn before departing.
