Title: The Next TGC Minis Contest
Description: What would you like to see?

ShroudFilm - November 6, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)
Basically, I'd like to know what people want for the next contest - possibly something running up to Christmas to keep people interested in their armies? :D

EDIT: Poll closed.

Yvraith - November 7, 2008 02:52 AM (GMT)
What about best command/combat squad (ie. 5 minis)?

Jul063 - November 7, 2008 03:07 AM (GMT)
just a quick question: do the rules we got for the last contest will still apply for the next one; i.e: only GW current range...etc

Cheers

J

ShroudFilm - November 7, 2008 03:11 AM (GMT)
No no, we're usually completely open-ended! That was just a sponsored contest to test our conversion skills...

Jul063 - November 7, 2008 03:15 AM (GMT)
nice.

Completly open is quite hard as you cannot judge a tank the same way you judge a character.

A good idea could be to make a contest in order to push people painting their army. You get great models than give great armies at the end....

Otherwise non-imperial human is really challeging

Cheers

J

Rogal Dorn - November 7, 2008 04:48 AM (GMT)
non imperial human definatly...ill convert one of my squats :P

Whitehorn - November 7, 2008 09:22 AM (GMT)
Xenos or vehicle.

Anything but more stinking humans!

I don't like open ended. I like the inspiration a theme provides and gives us all a common ground to aim our entry towards.

ShroudFilm - November 7, 2008 11:10 AM (GMT)
Agreed - I think a theme levels the playing field a bit too, plus we can hopefully make sure that the more prolific and talented members of the board still have to go away and make something new, rather than just churn out more of the same... :D

But we shall see what the popular vote decides!

Apologist - November 7, 2008 11:39 AM (GMT)
My vote's for Xeno. Realistically, I'm never going to make a completely scratchbuilt army, but a contest of Xenos will let people make those cool models you always want to buy/sculpt/paint but never have an excuse to!

Yvraith - November 7, 2008 10:54 PM (GMT)
I've changed my mind (luckyI hadn't voted yet) :D , Xeno's would be rather cool, lots of possibilities too.

kriegersen - November 7, 2008 11:20 PM (GMT)
does best non imperial human include traitor guard?, cause if it does im up for that but to be honest im up for anything so whatever the next comp is, I'll do it :)

ShroudFilm - November 8, 2008 12:18 AM (GMT)
I'd say so... you can't get much more non-Imperial than a traitor! :D

Maratheus - November 8, 2008 02:23 PM (GMT)
I'd really like to see a squad competition, be it imperial or not. Five models would be a good I think.

kriegersen - November 9, 2008 01:28 AM (GMT)
voted for best non-imperial human.

when we gona know what the next comp is?
will it be before christmas :o

:D :D

Lord_Mortirion - November 9, 2008 01:44 AM (GMT)
what would a warp dweller be counted as??? culd i pass it off as xenos, or would it be not allowed???

i think we should have a 'BEST CONVERSION OF SHROUD!!!' comp one day...

kriegersen - November 9, 2008 01:59 AM (GMT)

YAR, GOT IT!
best board member conversion comp! festive, funny and gives us all a healthy break from our armies.

EVRYONES A WINNER!

KRUG_666 - November 9, 2008 06:33 AM (GMT)
I voted xenos scum, curious to see what everyone will do if its chosen, although an open comp would be sweet too. :)

kriegersen - November 10, 2008 08:31 PM (GMT)
hmmm? <_< , startin to come round to the idea of an open comp.

this may be a silly silly question, but does it have to be a PH themed entry?

I think im gonna get a slap with a fish for this question but I just wanted this cleard up is all before I started comin up with ideas?

ShroudFilm - November 10, 2008 08:40 PM (GMT)
It has to be PH - that is just about the only hard rule!

I think an open contest, going by member votes, is the way forwards... that way I don't have to judge... :D

Battle Brother Loken - November 10, 2008 10:18 PM (GMT)
yah open voting would be better in my mind
and i think it would take a load of the judges minds too

ShroudFilm - November 11, 2008 12:06 AM (GMT)
We've always done it that way in the past - trawl through the News section threads and find the old contests for some examples.

Torg - November 11, 2008 10:50 AM (GMT)
I voted anything goes,it opens the possibilities. :)

ShroudFilm - November 11, 2008 05:38 PM (GMT)
Okay... I reckon in order to please as many people as possible, we should have the next TGC minis contest as:

The Non-Imperial Open Competition

Basically you can enter anything you like, as long as it is PRE-Heresy but not Imperial. Sound good?

Battle Brother Loken - November 11, 2008 07:07 PM (GMT)
so it can be human xeno or anything as long as it dosent have the eagle on it pretty much
and pre heresy

how about rouge humans???
or lost humans that are just being found but are fighting the imperium?
can it be any kind of mini
like tank, monster, anything like that?
if so i will start painting sooon
is there a due date and if so when

Maratheus - November 11, 2008 07:14 PM (GMT)
This will be a hard one <_<
Requires a bit more knowledge of the PH fluff and all that jazz. Would for example a genestealer cultist be pre-heresy? I mean they come to starsystems millenia before they devour it.

Battle Brother Loken - November 11, 2008 07:23 PM (GMT)
are we limeted to what parts we can use???

Tarik Torgaddon - November 11, 2008 08:08 PM (GMT)
Hmmm I'm getting ideas already. I think I'll go for a xeno warrior or squad.

Hmm RT says that they were found on the moons of Ymgarl, at this time it was assumed they were a native species to that planet. No date is given, but Jaq Draco talks about them in the 'Inquisitor' trilogy - I'm guessing that if they had been discovered pre-heresy there would not have been so accurate a record as to when and where they were first found. But, this is complete supposition on my part!

I think it was only 2nd edition where genestealers became a vanguard for tyranid invasions (you could have genestealers and genestealer cult as part of tyranid force etc.)

Whitehorn - November 11, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
Red humans ftw!

kriegersen - November 11, 2008 10:31 PM (GMT)
hmm <_< :D , I think Im gonna do a duel, Thinks I'll be diggin out the necromunda parts, people.
I like the compromise of doin a NON-IMPERIAL OPEN COMP
What was the situation with chaos cults back then? I'v already explained that I havent got as much knowlage on PH as some of you, somewhere else on the forum but I'm In the best place to learn...
I only ask as I might incorpraite this in it and I don't care if anyone nicks the Idea cause I'll just go ahead and do it anyways :D :P

ShroudFilm - November 11, 2008 10:40 PM (GMT)
M36 was the first Genestealer contact, IIRC.

Anything PRE-Heresy means that it must be thematic to the idea of this forum, i.e. to do with the events leading up to the Horus Heresy. You couldn't, for example, have a Roman legionary or a modern American soldier... :D

What we want to see here are characters, vehicles, races, iconography etc from the time between the Unification Wars, up to the Siege of Terra... oh, and they should be NON-Imperial.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Far be it from me to tell you what to create, but it could include things like:

Non-Imperial Humans
Renegade Humans
Chaos Cultists
Xenos races
Canonical characters from the novels etc

What it should NOT include:

Astartes
Chaos Daemons
Imperial Army/Navy etc
Full-size working replica Chainswords ;)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've personally considered several options, including more of my Fire Cultists of Tharn (taken from the CCG artwork), a squad of Ullanor Orks, a Technocracy vehicle, an army of Davinite cultists with plague zombies etc etc etc

:( there goes my ideas
just kiding
could we do a whole unit or a whole small army even?
or does it just have to be one model <_<

My armies get enough attention.

My leggies on the other hand..........

:P

ShroudFilm - November 12, 2008 06:40 PM (GMT)
Open competition = whatever you want.

An army, a diorama, a single mini, a standalone banner... etc etc

Full rules will follow, don't worry about it yet.

Pacific - November 12, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
Does it have to be based on a GW mini?

the buzz - November 13, 2008 08:08 AM (GMT)
ohh now this sounds fun !!! I have a couple of ideas and I can enter this one !!

ShroudFilm - November 14, 2008 12:02 AM (GMT)
In False Gods, the Sons of Horus are beset by Nurgle zombies on the moon of Davin while Horus battles a daemonhost.
