ShroudFilm - November 14, 2008 02:50 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure how this is different from the Welcome thread... but hey! :D

My name is Laurie, I'm 27 and I live in the Midlands.
I'm a film and video producer, and oft-times a teacher as well. I was born in London, grew up in Burton-on-Trent, studied in Winchester and then moved back towards Leicester.
I'm a cat person, I hate dogs and fish.
I've worked as a chef, a sound engineer, a lifeguard, a barman, an office manager, in a games shop, a delivery driver, a music producer, as a scriptwriter for the BBC and LucasFilm, in concert promotion, costume design and occasionally as a very bad actor! :D

I started GW after playing Heroquest with my cousin in 1989, and got heavily into 40k, WFB and the 'Wargames Series' of boardgames which GW produced in the early 1990s.
I became more of a collector than a gamer when I got into Space Marine just after the 2nd edition was released, having no one to play against... but then started playing Necromunda LOADS with a few different gangs. I tried to get into Gorkamorka but then fell into the teen trap of chasing girls instead!
Took a break of about 5 years from GW, sticking with roleplaying and White Wolf LARPs while I was at university, then got into CCGs and CMGs again in about 2004. I had a passing interest in 40k again but GW's prices had soared to what I considered extortionate in the time I'd been gone.
Then I saw the Horus Rising novel in Waterstones and was intrigued... joined the old pre-Heresy forums after doing some online searching, and you all know the rest! :D

lord_caldera - November 14, 2008 05:17 AM (GMT)
I always forget how young people in this hobby are, especially with the amazing work everyone does!

I'm Jamie, from Massachusetts. I'm 19 as of twelve minutes ago (whoo hoo!) and am at college right now, and should be doing homework whenever I'm haunting forums. I work ina wicked awesome little deli in my hometown. I started fantasy games with Magic the Gathering in fourth grade and got into 40k just before high school. I played Catachans for a few years then made my World Eaters and sold off my Guard. I got into the pre-Heresy stuff with the novel releases after I read William King's Space Wolf series and the Soul Drinkers and Grey Knights books. I found this forum and got inspired by all the great work I saw to start up my own pre-Heresy Word Bearers! (I swear I'm working on them, will start a thread when I get enough done to not feel like an idiot posting three models)

Rogal Dorn - November 14, 2008 06:11 AM (GMT)

KRUG_666 - November 14, 2008 06:37 AM (GMT)
Im 25, married and have a two month old daughter. I live in Southern California and love rock n roll, old cars and bikes and love to get tattoos.
I have been playing RPG's and adventure games since I was about five or six. We used to play Cry Havoc, D & D and make up our own d10 & d20 games!
My Pops taught my brothers and I how to paint minis and build terrain, back then
Citadel mini's were goofy looking, Ral Partha and Grenadier were awesome.
We started collecting GW minis around 1987 and bought a crap load of that times Elves and Chaos
Warriors. We bought 40k second edition and we as a family have never been the same....
It was really Necromunda that has kept me involved all these years...that and my love of the 40k Universe story line( dont ever use the word "fluff" around me)...The Horus Heresy series is a dream come true as well as all the goodies G-Dub keeps producing....

Yvraith - November 14, 2008 11:33 AM (GMT)
I'm 31. <_<
Live with my girlfriend of 4 years, in Carlton River, Tasmania, Australia.

As a kid I fell in love with fantasy novels (Thanks to Mr. Tolkien) and had read LOTR about 6-8 times by the time I was 11.
I always have loved Star Wars and the original Battlestar Gallactica (with Lorne Greene as Adama).
I'm also slowly bashing out a fantasy novel of my own. (Shameless plug :D )
But only tend to write as the mood strikes me. <_<

Got into GW games through a mate, who introduced me to Blood Bowl (the one with the astrogranite pitch!).
This was around 1990 I think.
From there progressed into Battletech, D&D then 40k closely followed by Fantasy & Epic.
Needless to say he created a monster.

I've spent 9 years in the Aust Army, but now earn my money as a Security Guard at local international airport. For at least another couple of years, when I put in for the police force. Or until something better comes along.

I still play Aust Rules Football, with my local club. I also captain a basketball team in the local knockaround comp. I have also played numerous other sports over the years such as Cricket, Hockey & American Football.

After reading the new novels I was inspired to shelve my eldar & start a new SM army and so jumped online and found the old forum...

I currently play 40K & Classic Battletech/Mechwarrior on a regular basis.
My Armies are Eldar (own craftworld), High Elves, Dark Angels (only a few left not butchered for bits), Imperial Guard (going to be Tanith 1st & only) and my Luna Wolves & Emperor's Children army for 30K.

Lord_Mortirion - November 14, 2008 05:30 PM (GMT)
Erm, its just like myspazz all over again lol...

Im John, 28 and I live in Liverpool, North West England*Sobs* :(

I have been playing since 1991 when some 'older' lads at school were playing a skirmish between Rtb01 Crimson Fists Vs Harlequins. On the way home i picked up my first copy of White Dwarf (149), and havnt looked back since... I first started playing with space crusade, then space hulk, tyrannid attack (simplified advanced space crusade)... I managed to but most of the Rogue Trader books, but they changed to 2nd ed before i had a proper army... Over the years i have played Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Legion of the Damned, Eldar, Guard, Nids, Orks, Chaos (Cult Armies, Undivided and LotD) Pre heresy Death Guard, Small Custodes, and Wordbearers... I have Dabbled in Fantasy, using small Brettonians and Udead Forces... Lord of the Rings (game) is crap!!! :o

At the moment I clean and glass collect in a nightclub, although i am a trained chef, 12 yrs experience, and i HATE it... Also i have had training in sound engernering, done lightshows for local bands, and then throw ice cubes at local emo bands...

I have also worked for games workshop (not so exciting), independent wargames - roleplay shops, record shops, and other boring jobs...

I *Ahem* sing, play guitar and bass in a Black Metal band 'MORTIRION', (i wont do shameless myspace page plug, you can find it elsewhere on here) and we have just blagged a spot on the Uk Legions of Black Metal Compilation cd, and have a song on the soundtrack for the Forthcoming movie 'Legalise Murder 2' (a 'comedy' black metal documentary)... oh and if anyone remembers (lol) i have a son who will be 2 in feb, who has been diagnosed with Cerebal Palsy, and the break up with his mother well bad and i aint seen him for a few months... But on the bright side, i hear that he is going through the 'spitting food out' phase, so it is all good :D  :D

Brother Richard - November 14, 2008 07:59 PM (GMT)
Well hello to all -

I have been playing/collecting 40k since early 80's, started with D&D metal figures and found ones with space guns...thought to myself 'this looks cool'. Heavy into military history/crusades/etc... most influencial book was Hienlein's Starship Trooper. Joined army and just retired after 23 years as infantry, then armored cavalry, now working on becoming a chaplain to go back again.

I must say that it is hard to find a game shop and play where I live now.. great northwest territory of the States, but I am really glad to have found such a wonderful resource as this website and the B&C. I get more from these forums and battle reports than I ever could have from a CLGS (crappy local game shop thanks 40kradio). The pics and ideas that you all post really bring the hobby to life for me.

Great to be here!

kriegersen - November 14, 2008 10:21 PM (GMT)
Hello all! :)
Im will from carlisle, the most northern City before scotland to my knowlege...
anyways, Im nearly 16 and have been playin since I was 10. I only got int 40k about 2 or 3 years ago as I was and STILL ARE a big WFB collector. Im currently Working on a small 1000pnt army and thier Primarch MORTARION.
For 40k I have Chaos space marines incorperating these dudes with them aswell, orks(lots and lots of the green skins!), a large eldar army in boxes unbuilt and a small ongoing side project of chaos guard and cultists....

For WFB I have a good sized Empire army, 2k of beastmen, Keltic style tomb kings who are ment to be from the Border princes and Im about to do a Scaven army (all I can say to that is "IT'S ALIVE!, ITS ALIVE!", nuff said)
Currently doing my GCSE's and then going on to sixth form.
I think that gives every one A ruff Idea that I like playin the baddies and makin armies with a strong narative background, I'v never been the strongest of gamers but I think I'm a fairly compitant painter and modler.
I like lots of differnt typs of music but from Classical to Norse and Viking metal but Usually my day to day listning doesn't go much past slipknot at a push and usually stops at about Iron maiden for most day to day listning...

I hope this gives a rough Insite into me and my hobby and hope you like my spin on it  ;)

will, B) :D :P

Vredesbyrd - November 17, 2008 10:13 AM (GMT)
Hello everyone, I'm Chris and I'm a GW addict.

I was born in the Great Border City, or Carlisle as its more often known, and did the whole school, first job, first girlfriend thing there. Worked in Argos, Trespass and for five months I had the best job in the world at that time for me - I was a GW staff member. I loved working in GW Carlisle, but unfortunately the real world was calling to me and I had to go to University, to hide from the real world for the next four to seven years. :D

I first got into the hobby when I was eleven and some schoolmates of mine told be about 'Warhammer' and that I should play something called Bretonnians as they wore lots of armour. They then took me to GW Carlisle, which I'd passed many times but never been in. I got Ravening Hordes, the giant black and white poster catalogue they did and a box of Bretonnian Bowmen. I've been hooked ever since.

Nine years on and I can't paint that much better, my attention span for an army is about as weak as ever and I keep having mental ideas. Although I occasionally go into GW Aberdeen, for I am at the University of Aberdeen, its not the same as GW Carlisle where I know everyone, and everything that's going on.

Currently I'm studying for a History degree, which I then hope to pursue through to a PhD, hopefully specialising in either Byzantium or Viking Scandinavia. If I could, I'd do both, but I think I'd go mad doing all the work for them. Ultimate goal currently is to become a lecturer, and ramble on about Byzantines and Vikings at people whilst getting paid for it.

little horus - November 17, 2008 04:35 PM (GMT)

Woot for Carlisle :D !!!!!!!!!!
I feel sorry for TORG trapped between us relmies of the great border city, It doesn't help that me, VREDS and Little Horus all know each other in real life !
and I don't think your paintings too bad dude. :)

Tarik Torgaddon - November 17, 2008 06:27 PM (GMT)
Well I guess it's my turn.

Hello people, my name's Lars and I'm a world eater :P

Ok seriously, my name's Lars and I was born in the frozen northlands of Norway 20 years ago, The city of Tromsų to be more precise ( a picture of the city for those interested: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...en-improved.jpg
And I'm currently working as an electrician apprentice.

My stroll into the warhammer universe started seven years ago, when a friend of mine told me of some miniatures he'd bought that belonged to a game called warhammer. And from that day a certain whirlpool has been sucking a lot of my hard earned income. I probably have five or six unfinished project that I'll never be able to complete, so for now I've decided to stick to Space marines (my WE) and warriors of chaos. I also suffer from the "shiny new army" syndrome, though I'm sure I'm not the only one ;) .

Well I don't if there's that much more to tell, It's a bit lonely amongst all you brits and americans. But just you wait til my longboat's complete, I'll be coming to reclaim that Isle of your's.

FOR ODIN!!!! :P

but painting is quite Theraputic.and I enjoy it. :)

Manneus Drath - November 18, 2008 12:15 AM (GMT)
Well okay then...
I'm closer to 16 than 15, and live somewhere in California. Ive been doing GW stuff for around 2 years now, and only 40k. I started off with Ultramarines (as I think most GW noobs do :P ), then did Chaos with the Iron Warriors, and now I think I'll be starting some pre-heresy Iron Warriors. Been on the board for a while too...

Maratheus - November 18, 2008 04:14 PM (GMT)
I'll join in :)

My name is Markus and I hail from Finland. I'm currently studying animation although I have more of an interest in the game industry and becoming a concept artist. I found Warhammer when I was about 10 or 11. I bought an Ork Mob box and have been hooked ever since, I even have the contets of the old box somewhere. :D

Jim - November 18, 2008 05:28 PM (GMT)
...Its been interesting reading about everyones 'real lives'...who knew pre-heresy space marine armies were so popular in Carlisle??!!

My name is Jim (no really just like my screen name!) I'm 29 and live in South West London with my wife. I got married in February this year, bought a house and am currently in the midst of dusty hell as my kitchen, boiler and bathroom are being renovated...

The bonus of moving to my new house is the loft has been boarded and has lights and electricity so I have my own space for all my GW stuff to live which I have not had before...

I got into GW when I was 10 when some kids at school bought in Adeptitus Titanicus and some White Dwarfs...I've played most games GW has done since the early 90's and have Crimson Fists, Valhallans and most recently pre-heresy World Eaters for 40K and Vampires for Fantasy as well as odds and ends for other games like Blood Bowl, Epic, Mordheim, etc...

I worked for GW for a few years (1997-2001) between Richmond (near where I live) and Southampton (where I went to uni). It was a great job and I really enjoyed it but had to leave when I returned to London to get a 'proper' job that paid more so I could afford to eat!

I haven't played much this year due to real life but aim to start going to a local club again soon (The Cross Gaming Club near Charing Cross in London) to try out my World Eaters.

Sorry to have rambled on!!!

Jim :D

Jul063 - November 18, 2008 06:18 PM (GMT)
why not?

My real name is Julien, i'll be 30 next january. I'm born in Paris but now live in the States (philadelphia, PA) after living in a couple of others cities. My wife is a researcher (neuro-physiology), so we move every 2 years of so, depeding her projects. we just can't wait the time when we are able to stop and settle back in Montreal, QC. We got 2 kids (4 years and 7 months), and they take what time is left for painting and playing.

I've been playing GW games since 89 when i was bored painting Airfix soldiers (1/72 boxes, i'm sure i'm not the only one around). My dad has been painting since he's 14 so paints and models have always been at home. I started with Humbrol paints and learnt quickly not to lick those brushes...even if i still do it and sometimes i got screwed but the turpentine...

My first real game was Space Marines (1st ed.) and even if i purchased some 40k minis back then, it was more to assemble and paint them (the magic 3 rhinos boxset and RTB01...). when 2nd ed. came, a couple of friends went into and we started to play more often. i remember playing up to 4 games a week during 3rd ed.
So for 40k, i've been playing and collecting marines (ultras, ravenwing, black legion, deathguard, world eaters), IG (necromunda, mordian, LotD, Elysian, Death Korps) , Eldars, orks, DeamonHunters, tau...over the years i sold some of them and i just keep the Ultras (last time i count them i was over 10k points worth of blue guys), Pre-Heresy World Eaters (around 3k), some orks (maybe 1k, it is the third time i try to start an ork army so...slowly, the deathkorps in Panzergrenadier Companie and the RT Adeptus Mechanicus boys.... little to say that each time i moved i got around 20 large boxes worth of models and that's a pain to move
i tried Fantasy, but it lacks the good old bolter for me, and i jumped recently back to Epic. beside i have played mostly all games GW has produced since early 90's.

On the Playing side, i do not play as often as i used to, so i concentrate my games on apocalypse ones, it has been a real pleasure each time and i think i've found the kind of games i enjoyed the most... back in Montreal, some friends and i put together a gaming club which meets every 2 saturdays and plays mostly GW games, but also Alkemy from Kraken Editions, they are all good lads and some of them strong opponents.

For living, i'm an ethics in biomedical research involving human specialist, that's a long title but that means nothing more than taking care of patients and their security (personnal information and good wealth), i'm currently not working and raising my daughter instead which is also a full time job in itself. before that i've bee working in Law offices, HR and Commercial sales in different companies and countries. i worked as well in the gaming industry during my education, for an independent retailler and then as molder/caster for Dream Pod 9 (those who make Heavy Gear Blitz), great experiences, great meetings and cheap labor, unless you are Tom Kirby, don't expect to make a lot of money in the industry.

Next things are painting my WE and get them finished before the next decade and maybe write a book: "How Forgeworld stole my wallet..." :D

Cheers

J

Mortarion - December 1, 2008 06:56 PM (GMT)
Guess I can do this too.

Im Andy, 21, from Manchestoh, and I am of all the godforsaken careers...an accountant *sigh...cries...sigh* been into GW since I was 10, started with a Blood Angels army, which then got repainted to Ultramarines, which then got repainted to Doom Eagles, which then got repainted to Death Guard...as well as raising a host of the Undead in fantasy(though I get in trouble these days coz I use reaper minis for my generals, naughty naughty) broke off Space Marines to play Tau for a while and when I came back to them I put my old Death Guard away and started doing proper pre-heresy stuff.

I'm working on a master plan to have a Chapter sized force for each legion I-XX including coming up with names, schemes, and backgrounds for the two missing ones, one of which I've started working on already(well ive decided a colour scheme, name, heraldry and Primarch)...More to follow.

I play a couple of the specialist games, mainly Necromunda, Mordheim and BFG. So yeah...thats it really, other than I play D&D and go paintballing alot :D

ROCK ON THE NORTH WHOOO YEAH!!!!

GreyWolf - December 3, 2008 07:01 PM (GMT)
Well, I guess I didn't say too much about myself in the original Welcome Thread, so why not post here?
I'm Dennis, currently going to college/university in Virginia not too far from Washington, D.C. As to where I'm from, I spent the first few years of life in Chicago, and then have been all over the United States up til now (I've lived on both coasts, and traveled to or through almost all 48 contiguous states).
As for the hobby, college life has put the brakes on it for now, although I plan to get back in it over the summer when I have some free time. I started a few years back with Warhammer Fantasy (with Hordes of Chaos), but then switched over to 40k and found it much more enjoyable. For 40k, I used/use a Black Legion army (roughly 3000 - 4000 points). Started Pre-Heresy modelling/painting/gaming with the release of Horus Rising and foolishly thought I was being original by actually making a Luna Wolves army. After visiting the first/old forum however, I quickly found out that was NOT the case. Even so, I enjoy the army project (as I'm sure everyone here enjoys their own armies) and hope to actually finish it one day.
That's all for now (maybe I'll remember something else later).

the miniatures are much of a stress reliever!! i have been painting miniatures for almost 20 years. before and during that i worked on n-scale layouts and was published by the age of 13 in a national magazine called "the n-scaler" but the bug with warhammer 40,000 was soundly burrowed. i have been obsessed with the lore for some time now...namely the horus heresy. i have always been very intrigued with the lore surrounding that aspect of the imperial story.
i started my "M31 great crusades project" in 2003 with my completion of my first piece sanguinius. once the books came out i was fully immersed....hehe

Hi all,
I'm Chris. I am also an old'un at 36. I'm a supply teacher in St.John's Newfoundland, Canada. I have a wife, a daughter who is almost three and I have never owned a whole cat (long story). I've been into GW, mainly 40k, since '88 when I recieved a copy of RT for Christmas and never looked back.
I play DG, Orks and 'nids in more contemporary 40k games. Since the advent of the HH series I've been building an Alpha Legion army (though I've taken a hiatus to work on some Orks and a historical project).

I also am into metal, as well as celtic/traditional and medieval/early music. I belong to a viking era living history group here (the Vinland Seawolves) and have a keen interest in history as well as the eating of food and the drinking of beer.

I also occaisionally mail subversive pamphlets to Santa's elves...

Absyrtus the Redeemer - January 6, 2009 02:24 AM (GMT)
Howdy all,

I'm Dan. I'm currently in the process of moving back from Canada to Australia (in fact I am at the airport writing this!). I've lived all over Australia - in Perth, Sydney, the NSW south coast, Canberra, and Cairns. I've also lived in Singapore and Canada, and travelled to many other countries, including Norway (Bergen, Oslo, Stavanger - didn't make it to Tromso, excuse me not doing the funny "o" symbol).

My travel is due to the fact that I'm in the Australian Navy. I work in submarines, and have been a navigator (horrible but occasionally rewarding job) and sonar officer. Next job is operations officer which I'm looking forward to...

Hobby-wise, got into it a bit back in the early 90s with 2nd ed 40K, through my brother who learnt about it from a friend of his. Didn't do much beyond paint a couple of Ultramarine squads (very poorly - that was when no one went Ultras because they didn't have cool super rules like the other Chapters). Many years later, I started to edge back into the hobby, but it was more about collecting and reading than actually painting and playing...

Fast forward to Canada, 2008. I spent most of 2007 at sea, as usual, but 2008 was something of a hiatus work-wise, so I headed down to my local GW store, where an excellent bunch of blokes encouraged me in my hobby and educated me in many ways. My painting and modelling improved markedly (I still wouldn't say I'm great, but I'm much better than I was!) over a relatively short time. I started playing LOTR seriously (it is a brilliant skirmish-style game, unless one doesn't have the wit to appreciate it <_< ;) ), then eventually got sucked back into 40K because of the beautiful models and compelling universe/story. Finally, I began to dabble in Fantasy. My LOTR armies are Gondor (first and foremost), Dol Guldur, and Mordor. I have Dol Amroth and Harad in their infancy.

For Fantasy, I have some unpainted Bretonnians that are crying out for love and attention...

But for a while now, my efforts have been bent upon 40K. My pre-heresy army is Word Bearers, although I've only got about 750pts done so far, and the going is slow. Post Heresy, I have World Eaters (my first army), Word Bearers, and now Imperial Fists. I find Apocalypse (with the right sort of people) to be exceptionally fun, and more enjoyable than "standard" 40K games just because of the sheer scale and scope for narrative battles. My next project will be my own warband of Chaos Space Marines, devoted to Tzeentch, which I'm doing as part of a "Tale of X Gamers" idea that my old GW local (in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) is launching. The idea is that you plan and paint an army from any system, to be completed between January and May of this year. But there's a cost limit of $400, and (I think) $100 a month spending, so it keeps the whole thing affordable and under control. Of course, this forum has inspired me to get my Word Bearers (pre-Heresy) going again, and perhaps expand them. I'd really love to have a crack at modelling Lorgar... Not to mention writing more fiction from the fascinating 30K period!

Anyway, enough from me.

Cheers!

That's weird... I changed his name yesterday...

The PMs he has sent me since then are coming up as the new name too... maybe it will take some time to filter down?

Ooh, relief from work!

I'm Ross, 25 from the Midlands, UK. I work in website development as a code-monkey and scapegoat. My heart is more set on art and game design, but for some reason I didn't study those at University. The beer was too appealing.

I've been involved in GW games since Rogue Trader / Space Hulk and have played or been exposed to pretty much every edition and game they've put out. Most of my time is spent with Warhammer and 40k these days, especially with upcoming competitions and tournaments!

I dabble in all sorts of PBMs, RPGs, online games and anything 'fun' that comes my way. I used to pursue Airsoft and Rugby but work eats my time. I'm a sucker for music and real ale, so frequent any rock (and beer) festivals, gigs and such!

Hey y'all,

I'm Ben and am 17 from Blackpool. England. Am currently at 6th form studying Physics, Chemistry and Maths. (the fun ones i know!). I have been playing 40k since about 2003/04 after a friend got me interested in it. I'm much more of a collector and painter than i am player but even then can't ever find enough time to paint anything.

I have got Sisters of Battle and a 5000/6000 point pile of Orks. I dabbled in othe GW game lines but none of them really made me want to keep spending money on them (lord of the rings for one!)

Not a big games console person but i do love my Wii and who doesnt. Rock/Metal music mainly of course, Metallica to Foo Fighters or even a bit of Eva Cassidy or Michael Buble if im in the mood. I play the guitar and enjoy a good game of rugby and thats my life story so goodbye guys.

Cya

I'm Jared
I'm a month from 19
I was raised in the middle of nowhere New York (Actually like the outskirts of nowhere, but still...)
I currently live in my dorm, I'm going to college at RIT
I started 40k when I was 7-8 because of my brother and that awesome 3rd edition battle box made me an avid DE player, though I've played most armies except regular eldar and tau.
I am a metal head through and through, I play quitar and write song's for my roommate's girlfriend's band,

And I'm a convertaholic, but not a great painter, and that's about it...

My name is Alex and I am an alcoholic.

No, wait that's not it...

I'm a musician - more or less the same thing but I have to carry around a bass guitar or double bass in addition to consuming my bodyweight in Guinness.

I'm 28, and live in Bexhill, infamous for being the concentration camp in the film 'Children of Men', coming in 8th in the book 'Crap Towns', being the birth place of British Motor racing, one time home of Eddie Izzard... etc.

I think I got into GW in 88 or 89, and spent alot of time playing WFRP (cos at the age of 10 I didn't have alot of money for models).

To my shame I was a GW red shirt from 99 - 01, but I'm really an ok guy!

Other than that I am made of win and taste of raspberries.

ShroudFilm - January 23, 2009 12:00 PM (GMT)
"Fugee face. Sad face..."

I nearly bought one of the Bexhill jeeps that was used in the filming of Children of Men, then I realised I had literally no use for it.
