Title: 1500 point army list
Description: 1500 point list for as yet unknown army
The Gaunt One - January 23, 2009 08:54 PM (GMT)
I'm interested in doing a pre-heresy Space Marine army but don't no which legion to go for. Anyway i'll come back to that later, here's the list:
troops: 3 squads of ten marines, flamers & heavy bolters, Sergeants with meltabombs.
5 scouts, Scout Sergeant with melta bombs, heavy bolter, sniper rifle.
Rhino, storm bolter
Elites: 2 Dreadnoughts, one with autocannon, one with lascannon.
Fast attack: 2 x 5 marine Assault squads, Sergeants with melta bombs, flamers.
Land Speeder Storm, assault cannon
Heavy Support: One Predator Destructor, extra armour
As it stands this list comes to 1'325 points, with what's leftover being reserved for my HQ choice which will be decided based on what legion I choose to make.
Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

As it stands, this list could be used for any Legion... I vote Salamanders though ;)
On to the list:
Don't give the normal Marine Squads Melta Bombs, they will be too busy firing their Heavy Bolters. Also, the Scouts with HB and Sniper Rifles make the Melta Bombs next to useless.
Drop these and spend the points for a Lascannon instead of an Autocannon on the one Dreadnought. Double-Twin-Linked Lascannons are pretty effective, especially mounted on Cybots.
A single Landspeeder also will cause nothing but a little confusion, being a one-shot wonder at best. I'd take 2 of these if you can afford it.
For the Rhino, is it just 1 Rhino ? Or 3 ? One for each Squad ?
And to also have a positive point, I really like the HB/Flamer combi for TacSquads - HBs are just the ultimate Pre-Heresy Weapon B) Oh, and the Predator Destructor, I prefer these to the Annihilators, too.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll remove the melta bombs completely. As to your suggestion of doing a Salamanders Army I am quite tempted by that.

I have to say, Salamanders all the way! :D
I disagree about Lascannons though - Twin-Linked Autocannons are strength 7 compared to Lascannons at 9, but you get to fire many more shots AND re-roll all of them if you miss.
You can pop anything less than a Landraider 50% of the time with an Autocannon, and it works against infantry far better too.

Salamanders it is then, though I think I'll split the army between them and the Iron Hands, go for a nice Istvaan V theme.
Cheers for the suggestions.
