Title: Background for the II Legion.
Description: Something me and a mate are working on.

Lord_Mortirion - May 10, 2009 10:47 PM (GMT)
We have been kicking around these ideas for a while now, and thought its time to get our fingers out and actually do something with it...

This is a collaboration as my friend hasnt played since 2nd ed and all he used was a crappy guard army, although due to the Background for the heresy he is now tempted at gaming again, so with me helping with the 'fluff' this is what we have come up with so far...

So without further ado i would like to present the 'Thunder Hearts' to later change their name to the 'Warp Runners'

No records exist of Primaxus’ early years, known records date to his formative years. It is
rumored, however, that he was found by one of the best rangers on the planet, who raised him to understand the value of right and wrong, and, importantly to embrace all men as equals. The young man grew to be noble in spirit and popular with the local populace.

When Primaxus was old enough, his foster Father began training him in the ways of hunting and trapping. Within an astounding period of time the teenager had not only surpassed his mentor but had become one Persephone’s best known rangers.

In time his father died and Primaxus was forced to make his own way in the world. Eventually he found himself in the employment of the Planetary Lord. After military training, something he excelled in, it became his task to ward away poachers and bring any bands of pirates praying upon the world to justice. By blending the martial arts with his knowledge of ranger lore he became a cunning tactician and brutal gorilla warrior. With relatively few troops he was able to bring down several major pirate cartels in the space of only a few years.

When one group of raiders fell another always seemed to be ready to take its place. The second world in the Ceres system was raided by green skins. Well armed and organized the savage Orks lay waste to the population and destroying anything they could not take or didn’t need. Primaxus was part of the relief force sent to help. Unknown to him, the pirates were had been flushed from a nearby system, after being defeated by the
Space Wolves legion, who were pursuing them, led by Leman Russ himself.

Primaxus and a small band of warriors were fighting in a densely forested area when they were ambushed. Realizing that they where outgunned and outnumbered the decision was made to retreat and regroup. Luckily for them, at this point a force of Space Wolves were hunting down the same Ork force that had ambushed Primaxus.
Primaxus' second in command was fatally wounded, and the enemy were closing in. Primaxus turned to his followers and told them to carry on, and meet him back at the base, as he will never leave a brother behind for the enemy to take...

Screaming he turned, brandishing his pistol low on ammo, and waving a fallen tree branch he charged the enemy...

This event was witnessed by Russ Himself, who stopped to watch such a reckless act of bravery, it is said that Primaxus ran straight at the nearest group of Greenskins emptying his pistol then throwing it at them as he scooped up the fallen warrior, swinging his makeshift club at anything within arms reach, fighting with such ferocity and skill, felling more than any normal man.

It was then that Russ realized that this must be one of his missing Brothers, as Primaxus vanished under a horde of screaming psychopaths, Russ and his entorage charged in to the fray, slaying anything that moved...

At the moment, this is still WIP but C+C is welcome...

He's probably a guerrilla, not a gorilla. ;) Maybe flesh out the names of places and units a bit. Throw some names of people in as well perhaps. It's a nice start though.

Horus Heresy-

Just before the outbreak of the Heresy, the Thunder Hearts had returned to the planet of Persephone, the legion’s homeworld, only to find that it was now a barren wasteland. The entire planet had been reduced to a quagmire of destruction, broken, and bearing no resemblance to its former glory.

From orbit the only visible landmark was a giant tower that was made from the flesh and bones of the innocent, Primaxus was enraged at what he saw, immediately ordering his legion to make ready for war.

After making planet fall, it became clear that their homeworld had been infested with the foul denizens of the warp, after a protracted campaign of cleansing the foul beasts, the Thunder Hearts made a final push towards the blasphemous tower, a titanic battle which took the lives of many battle brothers, the Legion won, banishing the foul spawn of the Warp back to the Immaterium.

As the events of the Heresy started to gain momentum, Primaxus received an urgent message from the Imperial palace ordering his Legion to return to Terra. Upon his arrival Primaxus was met by Malcador who told him that the emperor wanted him for a very urgent mission.

That night, the Emperor of Mankind spoke to Primaxus in private council, explaining to him that events were unfolding that were of great importance to the future of the Imperium. He had a mission for them that perfectly suited their new found aptness for dealing with Warp entities.

Beneath the palace the Adeptus Custodies and the Sisters of Silence were defending an ancient ‘Webway’ that would enable troops to move about the galaxy in safety, without having to traverse the perilous and fickle region of the Warp.

''Events beneath the palace have been well documented elsewhere, so the story will continue after the events in the web''

After the battle in the webway, the Emperor spoke to Primaxus one last time. Telling him that from now on the Thunder Hearts main concern would be hunting down and eradicating the taint of the Daemonic, and any that might try to bind these dark forces to further their own twisted ends.

''Let none interrupt you from this task, wherever the taint of the Warp may be, you will be there to stamp out the seeds of corruption. Unfortunately I fear this may be the last time we speak, you will be answerable to no man, your one concern will be that with the task I have given you. I do not want the reality of Daemonic existence spreading to that of the common man, and I fear as you will be operating behind a veil of secrecy your Legion will be wiped from all records. Now go brother, as we both have much to do!''

whats up with it its typed twice
liking the fluff, in my mind this kinda leads to Grey knights with fighting that evils that live in the warp

Crymzon - May 12, 2009 03:10 PM (GMT)
Hmm I don't know why that's up twice either and I was sitting next to Morty when he posted it. Sorry 'bout that people I'll go in an rectify it when I've done this next bit. Well I'll prod Lord until he does something about it anyway.

We're busy making the II legion into a playable army, (that's Morty's job,) so I'll be taking over the posting of the back story. As I'm the one that's writing most of it, it'll be quicker that way too. Any picies of models, stats etc etc etc I'll leave down to him. :)

Homeworld –

Primaxus’ homeworld and that of many of the earliest brothers of the Thunder Hearts was Persephone. Persephone was the prime world in the Ceres system, a series of agricultural worlds based out on the Galactic Rim. Of all these worlds Persephone produced the vastest quantity of food goods for shipment to the surrounding systems.

Persephone itself was a pristinely untouched world of rolling pastures, woodlands and meadows. The inhabitants only ever took what they needed from the planet so there was no wastage or pollution as on many other worlds. The sheer volume of goods sent off world was not due to heavy, destructive, machinery but the skill of those who lived and worked there.

There was also very little crime on the world of Persephone or indeed the other worlds in the Ceres system. Although imperial currency was used to trade off planet for goods necessary from other worlds and for products sold in return, Persephone’s inhabitants traded using a bartering system. They all took the laws of companionship and friendship very seriously so they often gave what they had to one another as a matter of kindness. Nobody was poor or starving.

The Planetary Lord was usually the most successful farmer or hunter on the planet. He was chosen to be the voice of the people by the populace. An important thing to note is, Persephoneans believed that all men where equal, it was a founding rule that they all followed. As a result of this, the Planetary Lord lived and had a much similar quality of life to everybody else. Because Imperial Currency wasn’t used on world, (it all went back into the importing/exporting industry,) there was no wealthy class just as there were no poor. The title was given more as a term of respect than as one of power or standing.

The military arm of the system was taken from the best hunters from across the worlds and these are what made up the Imperial Guard regiments and, of course, the Astartes. Though there was very little crime on Persephone or any of the other planets in the system, they where prime pickings for poachers and pirates from off world. It was the job of the military to keep these at bay and fight off any raids by outside forces.

Persephone was also an Eldar Maiden World and had at least one Webway gate. Rather than attacking the planets inhabitants the mysterious xenos watched and protected them from their Craftworld hidden somewhere on the outer edges of the system. The people of Persephone even traded with the Eldar from time to time where necessary, and over many centuries a bond of trust and even friendship had built up between the two races.

Primaxus and the other brothers of the Thunder Hearts legion observed this trust just as any other of the planet’s inhabitants. Primaxus, though following the will of the Emperor also understood that all xenos could not be his enemies and that a diplomatic route should always be sought before aggressive action was taken.

The bond of friendship between the Thunder Hearts and their Eldar neighbors was only made stronger during the times of the battle of Pandemonium. It was the Eldar who sent word to Primaxus about the incursion of Warp entities upon his homeworld and across the system in general. The two forces met and joined in the battle for the worlds.

Persephone is now known as Pandemonium. Though the demonic entities of the Warp were sent back there thanks to the valiant efforts of the Thunder Hearts and their Eldar allies the planet was left as a blasted wasteland devoid of any life. This is how it remains today, a blasted rock and a memory of not only a virtual paradise but of a now everlasting friendship between two peoples who the Imperium have decreed bitter enemies.

Looking good guys, I like the ideas.
What colour scheme do the Thunder Hearts use?

There ya are! That should hopefully give you something to play with. They've got different colours now but that's because they've got a different name to ... post the Emperor's decree and them being whiped from the records they became the Void Runners.

But there's your colours for the Thunder Hearts anyway.

(I was gonna let Lord do this bit but he's away and you asked) lol

Sorry I have been away in the Warp!
Looks great!

Magos Explorator - June 1, 2009 07:45 AM (GMT)
I'll admit I'm not a fan of the colour scheme. With so many colours it looks a little 'busy' and clownish; plus, the 18 known Legions were monochromatic (or close to it), and most later Chapters are either monochromatic or halved/quartered, so I think that makes the combination a little unlikely.

It's good to see some fluff, though!
