Title: REQUEST - Painting tutorial?
Description: Most awesome Sons of Horus scheme

Aye, so I stumbled across this some time ago:
http://img.over-blog.com/500x375/0/47/14/61/cruze.jpg

I bet many of you have seen it before. That is in my eyes the best Sons of Horus colours I have ever seen, sadly I have already started painting mine xD (wich I hope to upload very soon). Nor do I wish to steal it, but I do want to use it for dioramas or something in the future :)

So after trying to contact the painter without success I wonder, does anyone know how to paint to get exactly that greenish-colour?

since to me to be a mix of a camo green and rotting flesh with a dab of light grey in it.

Iacton is good at that game, he might be helpfull on that...

Going by the background featured there and the style of painting I'd hazard a guess that that's Reg aka edencontact's Cruze. He's a member of these boards but hasn't been about for around a year now.

You could always give him a PM, if you speak French you'd be better off writing it in French.

Hehe, I dont even speak a little french ;> But Ill rty give him PM.
That is also why I have trouble navigating at the blog.
Found the image on Coolminiornot.com and PMed him, but he didnīt answer, and now his account seems deleted.

I still hope for Iacton to be good at guessing then xD Or anyone else. Jul063 might be right aswell, but for me it seems rather like some kind of green atop some grey.

If you've got a link to the blog I can tell you straight off if its edencontact's or not, mayhaps Jul063 may be able to contact him if you ask nicely as he's a native Francophone you see.

Ah, that would be wonderfull. Ill post it here then in case anyone else should be intrested:

Its jibberish I tell you! No offense Jul63! :)

Yeah that's edencontact's work.

Try giving him a PM, he does speak English, but he's not been on here for a long time so you mightn't get a reply.

Its a little annoying that he justs posts pictures but no words, otherwise I imagine he'd've mentioned what he used.

Don't know which paints that Reg uses. I actually believe that he secretes pigment through the sweat glands on his hands....

However. There is an excellent basic colour for Sons of Horus, which is Vallejo Model Colour Pale Sea Green.

Failing that, I would use rotting flesh mixed with a bit of goblin green to get a similar hue. Could add a bit of bone to warm it up a touch.

Camo green is a bit too blue and brown for this colour.

I think that he has used a mix of his base colour and some Thraka green wash to get the pooling around the studs.

Any good? :P

Thanks for the help evryone, I did send Edencontact a PM, Ill just have to sit tight and wait for a reply then xD

And Ill certainly look up the Vallejo Pale Sea Green Iacton ;) Failing that Ill just have to try the other thing.
Sadly it will take time xD As I always undertake more projects than I ever can finish in a reasonable time, especially considering my budget :)

I shall return with replies of my progress when there are any to give!

Oh, thanks alot for that reference BigWill!
It seems I cant find the colour from Vallejo named Sea Green though, as if it doesnīt exist in Sweden xD
I have already begund my painting project long ago, with Knarloc Green as base, meaning they will become darker ;>

However what Iam really intrested is in the "sabertooth" style, or what you want to call it. In other way, exactly as Edencontacs Iacton Cruze!

BigWill - May 16, 2009 03:25 AM (GMT)
It is in the model color range it is called "light sea grey " there is also "dark sea grey"which goes along perfectly as the shade.
I had the name wrong.

Iacton - May 16, 2009 08:28 AM (GMT)
Duh me too....

morthin - May 16, 2009 12:10 PM (GMT)
Ah! That solves the problems, been looking for "Pale Sea Green" quite alot xD
I might end up trying that scheme anyway actually, I have grown fond of it the past few days. :D

Although it is abit to blue-greyish for Index Astartes. I should add that the index astartes found on the net (lexicanum for example) doesnīt match with IRL pictures at all (The Horus Heresy: Collected Visions for example). Its more strongly green in the Collected Visions astartes index!

Iacton - May 16, 2009 04:12 PM (GMT)
A bit of thin green wash will soon sort that out ;)

morthin - May 17, 2009 10:40 AM (GMT)
Iam sure it will :D

Iam gonna try diffrent methods out as soon as I get my "Red Scorpions" from FW.

When we are talking about SoH painting schemes anyway, I bet this is you Iacton:

How did you paint that one? :)

Iacton - May 17, 2009 07:49 PM (GMT)
'Twas indeed me :D

I have full details of him in the "Confessions....." blog, somewhere.

Shame those pics were so bad, but there's some better ones in the CMON gallery too.
