Title: Age of the Emperor - The Horus Heresy

Whitehorn - May 18, 2009 01:41 PM (GMT)
The tickets are already selling and the preview pack for the loyalists is actively being developed - so I see no reason why the participants shouldn't be on top of their projects already also! :)

http://www.tempusfugitives.co.uk/pdf/AotE/...r%20Edition.pdf

I'm re`ally torn between choices and very eager to see the Warmaster Codex before I decide. I am working on Daemons for a Tale of project from June, so they would be a worthy contender for my attentions, despite having a working Salamander force already.

I'm trying to resist how appealing the Custodes look... Valdor is 225 points cheaper than Vulkan and IMO a more appealing choice since Primarchs all went up 50 points :/

On my plate:

Chaos Daemons
Sons of Horus
Salamanders

Choices...

Whitehorn - May 19, 2009 10:38 AM (GMT)
Traitor or loyalist?

Be named!

ShroudFilm - May 19, 2009 11:27 AM (GMT)
TRAITOR!

(TBC pending release of the Campaign Pack...) :D

Points to be addressed:
1) Ten man Astartes squads MINIMUM! Twenty if possible.
2) Drop Pod deployment, since Jump Packs are hard to find.
3) Angron and the Devourers NOT OPTIONAL if I want to win games.
4) Consider a Titan, or at least Mechanicum/Imperial Army allies with artillery.

Whitehorn - May 19, 2009 11:37 AM (GMT)
1) Great for kill point missions. Bad for Heavy Assault IMO.
2) Maximini ^-^
3) Primarchs are very very hard, but we just didn't get enough time to use their points investment power. They just went up 50 points also.
4) Do it!

ShroudFilm - May 19, 2009 12:07 PM (GMT)
1) I found that by stretching my squads out into long ranked chains, at maximum 2" coherency, I minimised the damage done by D-weapons. IA squads in particular seemed able to weather 2-3 turns of barrages!
2) I meant fluff-wise! :D Only one squad makes it harder to use effectively in a rapid attack capacity, although I am very impressed by bikes, especially Scout Bikes.
3) Putting Angron in a Drop Pod and launching him into the front line on the first turn will get the maximum I think. Not sure but there was talk of increasing game length too...?
4) What to choose, what to choose...

ShroudFilm - May 19, 2009 12:24 PM (GMT)
Oh yes, we bashed this together this morning... campaign badge for the next AOTE event!

The 2k game with Vulkan, for me, only lasted 3 turns, so I didn't get to do a fat lot with him. I didn't mean they were intending on extending the default turns :)

Whitehorn - May 19, 2009 12:53 PM (GMT)
Brushplay...

That's a very phallic thumb you have there... :P

We've got Terra and Scouring badges on the way with Chaos stars too... nice to see the progression as you go through the 4 events.

Whitehorn - May 19, 2009 01:20 PM (GMT)
Eeeeeeey!

There we have TGC campaign badges for (in order):

The Great Crusade
The Horus Heresy
The Siege of Terra
The Scouring

We tried to give a sense of evolution and ongoing history by using at least one element from the previous in the next.

Comments? Suggestions?

Gagoc TheAncient - May 19, 2009 11:58 PM (GMT)
I think their great, but I do have a suggestion.
How about making the fists on the left in pics 2 & 3 more chaosy, after all they are sinister! ;)

Whitehorn - May 20, 2009 09:06 AM (GMT)
Looks like I'm going Traitor also.

Sons of Horus & Daemons :D

Apologist - May 20, 2009 10:21 AM (GMT)
Campaign badges are looking dead spiffy – only suggestion I might make is to desaturate the piccy of Earth in the background of the third one.

Any chance of non-black T-shirts next time? I'd be tempted to pick up a blue one... :)

I'm not sure I'll get a chance to do a complete new army in time, so I'll be concentrating on filling out the company with some Mark IV and V armour squads...

Fingol23 - May 20, 2009 10:44 AM (GMT)
Traitor!

IF i'm able to go i'll take my Night Lords but it is a very big if.

TyraelVladinhurst - May 20, 2009 11:02 AM (GMT)
if i can magicly get a passport by then my thousand sons will show up

ShroudFilm - May 20, 2009 12:37 PM (GMT)
We have no control over the colours - they pick the vinyl which most closely matches the designs and then they melt it into the fabric.

Different colours are not out of the question but would require black as a printed colour, otherwise the eagle, borders etc would all be blue. I can certainly look into it though.

Tyrael - I made this mistake once too, it turns out that passports are obtained by filling out forms and paying a fee... not by magic at all. You'd do well to pursue it rather than wait for Dumbledore to bail you out.

TyraelVladinhurst - May 20, 2009 01:16 PM (GMT)
lol, what i meant was if it proesses in time (seeing as the US takes 6 to 12 months to proess a passport for some reason.... damn you gerorge bush!!!)

ShroudFilm - May 20, 2009 02:14 PM (GMT)
UK passports say allow 6 months before travel for renewals... I got mine in 3 weeks.

Vredesbyrd - May 20, 2009 03:14 PM (GMT)
I'd love to go but its a fething long way from Aberdeen. I'll look into it though.

ShroudFilm - May 20, 2009 03:36 PM (GMT)
Not as far as London and 'Wicked'... :P

Wolf Lord Mjolnir - May 20, 2009 05:49 PM (GMT)
Try Maidstone! lol

Mortarion - May 20, 2009 06:26 PM (GMT)
Just bought my ticket for taking an Eisenstien list. thinking of keeping with my Iron Warriors as I want them to stay loyal but adding in some units from other legions too, strays they picked up on the way who had stayed loyal. Expect to see some World Eaters, Emperors Children and Thousand Sons :D

Aye true, then again I don't think a weekend in Nottingham would net the same results as one in London... :P

ShroudFilm - May 20, 2009 09:25 PM (GMT)
Hey, kick her out of the taxi at Nottingham Castle for the day with a fistful of twenties... it'd be a similar result, I'm sure - girls love Robin Hood and all that stuff! :D

I'm definitely veering towards traitor World Eaters with Tharn Garrison and Penal Legion support. I've picked out my next batch of purchases from GW and started looking into the possibility of IA Veterans with jump packs... scoring units/Troop choices that can Deep Strike and move up to 18" on a run!

Mortarion - May 20, 2009 09:49 PM (GMT)
Speaking of World Eaters, I forgot to get mine out of your car Shroud lol

ShroudFilm - May 20, 2009 09:57 PM (GMT)
Oops! I will keep them safe for you - let me know if you need them urgently in the meantime...

Whitehorn - May 22, 2009 08:54 AM (GMT)
Emperor 1.3 is out

Primarch costs lowered - roughly back to their original
Recon gone...
Deathblow now doubles
Only 5 games

Amon from Blood Games has made an appearance

Some changes since part 1 that are important:

You have to include a named character in each list. However, this has been made easy with the inclusion of named sergeants for squad upgrades, so you don't have to drop ~200 points for a captain-level character.

You have to bring a Planetsrike ,list for both attack and defend. I'm not sure if we'll know up front which game is which or if we'll get to do both sides.

Warmaster pack may be out tonight!

ShroudFilm - May 22, 2009 10:32 AM (GMT)
[barely contained excitement]

Whitehorn - May 22, 2009 12:50 PM (GMT)
Emperor 1.4 is out!
Primarch armour is now 1+ instead of the reroll.
This means AP2 does not negate the save, but rolls of 1 still fail.

New characters for Space Wolves.

Ilmarinen - May 25, 2009 08:00 AM (GMT)
Loyalist.

I'm determined to get my White Scars done in time for this event. I'll probably be taking a more mech list than biker-heavy, since my bikers are quite expensive in parts and labour-intensive.
My main concern (apart from being a pretty poor tactician!) is that I have mainly mark 6 marines, and I don't know if people will think I'm ruining the 'look' of the event?! (My army will fit in much better at the Siege of the Emperor's Palace event). What are your thoughts on this?
If anyone has any suggestions for what units work well, based on the previous event, I'd be interested. Would taking a Storm Seer and Sisters of Silence be unforgivable?! :)

Good to hear your coming. Dont worry about the MkVI armour, there was a Howling Griffons army at the last one.

With regards to units/tactics, if you have time a Primarch is a really good idea, they can take an aweful lot of punishment and can deal it all back. Past that its your pretty standard stuff, you'll prolly want some vets as opposed to terminators if your sticking with the theme of the White Scars(I cant see them being massive fans of the slow and cumbersome terminator armour). Also since were against marines mostly this time you will probably want to tool up with plasma guns where possible.

Whitehorn - May 25, 2009 09:05 AM (GMT)
Warmaster 1.3 is out!
A lot of new stuff coming into these legions - unique units, drop pods and fleshing out on characters and units.

Horus is now S7 thanks to his claw :)

Hopefully see some special bods for Demons.

Majesty seems to have shed the morale check rule - you can now simply just shoot Primarchs unless inside primarch guard.

Sons of Horus can use anoy one other character from the pack :)

World Eater berserkers are pretty hot... WS6 if you combine with the legion tactics.

H-Gate - May 25, 2009 09:20 AM (GMT)
Whitehorn just beat me to the announcement about Warmaster 1.3... a lot of very nice stuff!

I dont know about you guys but im really struggling to find a way to squeeze a Primarch into any of the lists now that Heavy Assault has been lowered (maybe temporarily!) to 2.5k. I'm starting to think that it might be too big a wedge of points, especially when i think its a big risk not to go in with a Fellblade or Fellsword (just in case your opponent has one!!!).

Ilmarinen - i'd say there is definately no problem in taking Mk VI in your army... good to hear you're come along!!!

Oh, and Traitor, by the way!

Mortarion - bit of a shame that your Perturabo wont be catching up with some loyalists at the next weekend!

Wolf Lord Mjolnir - May 25, 2009 09:51 AM (GMT)
Lets be blunt about this - the attack on Prospero will not be right without the presence of Russ and Magnus so I think every effort should be made to include them.

At the moment I would like to disucss my lists with you all but, I do like the uncertainty/advantage/disadvantage of facing an opponent with an unknown list so not sure.

Maybe there is a way of setting up a private topic for Wolves and one for 1KSons?

Shroud - would this be possible? If it is we could start a topic for people to register interest for the relevant legion topic.

Of course it goes without saying that people shouldn't start a new account to pass themselves off as a 'double agent'! ;-)

Just some ideas guys.

ShroudFilm - May 25, 2009 02:49 PM (GMT)
We'd have to create more membership groups in order to make 'hidden' threads, and that would start to get complicated.

Perhaps an email or circular PM thread would be better?

Wolf Lord Mjolnir - May 25, 2009 03:28 PM (GMT)
Ok I will start a topic asking for Wolves to post on it - then we can start a PM based thread.

Later on we could decide if we want to announce lists to the general rasbble ;-).

any link for the Warmaster i.3?

ShroudFilm - May 25, 2009 07:26 PM (GMT)
The TF site seems to be down...

Macewind - May 25, 2009 07:28 PM (GMT)
Ive just started work on my sons of horus force :) Ill be starting a blog on here.
H-Gate, dont worry about super heavies, just make your own list as fun as you can. In my heavy list i was planning on a fellsword but a perturabo storm tank and sabre tank hunter come in at less points and are more than a match for a super heavy.
