Title: fester's Sons of Horus Painting utorial
Description: Metallic Sons of Horus

Hi guys (and girls too I spose),

Now that I have gotten the obligatory 1 on-topic post out of the way I want to pop up a quick painting tutorial for my Sons of Horus Colour scheme.

Apologies for the photos, they are taken with a flash. I currently have access to a nice SLR Camera to photograph my minitures, but is in my home town and I am not, until tomorrow.

Anyway, the metallics colour scheme was discovered (or at least I am crediting it to) metcalfedan on B&C (http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=155396)

My take on this is as follows:
1. Undercoat Chaos Black.
2. Paint on - coat all surfaces - Mithral Silver or Chainmail or Boltgun Metal. The darker 'metal colour' you have the darker overall finish. I use Chainmail.
( Option A )
3. Wash with Azurman Blue (dont bother watering it down)
4. Wash with Thraka Green (dont bother watering it down)
- Or vice versa. It makes no difference
( Option B )
3. Mix 1:1 Azurman Blue and Thraka Green
4. Wash with your blue/green concotion.

Detail as you see fit. These pictures are detailed a bit - I have found that black shoulderpad edging looks great with these, as do red plated boltguns.
From what I have seen on B&C, this style of washing on vehicles or large flat surfaces can be problematic. I have yet to try it myself, but that should be this month. My Rhino and Arvus Lighter (aka LR) are about ready to go.

*** Note - I know that SoH done have this Mk of armor, but these are ebay marines painted over 2 other coats of paint - Blood angels and another existing salamander-esc SoH Scheme. The majority of my force has been fixed but these were a "get them painted" set of test models.

Looks nice, similar to my method. I'll add it to the tutorials sticky.

This aint the first time I see the "metalic green" SoH, even though it might be the best one :)
Great of you to add it as a tutorial :D

I'd love to see them in a larger scale though, as complete groups and perhaps with vehicles!

Thanks Magos. Yours was the first SoH Tute I ever read. Mines not quite as involved as yours, but yours definitely was great.

morthin, I don't have a 100% complete squad yet. As an Orkz player I have learnt to group paint everything. This means that basically I will end up with my 5 tac squads ready to be detailed before I finally finish a whole marine.
Once all thats done then I will try and sort out the squad markings etc.

I have to say that I was cruising with my army scheme until I say the SoH's here, especially the ones with the decals and eyes everywhere.

I will try and get some nice pics up over the next 2 days.

Wow, that feels familiar xD Even though it has been years since I played Space Orks it still haunts me

So should I, but the cameras (both of them) keep eating up the way to weak batteries!
Iam looking forward your squad anyway!

Cheers.

Nice, is there a way this could be done for the other legions in their colours?
