Title: CONTEST: Best Pre-Heresy Vehicle
Description: Voting begins...
ShroudFilm - May 31, 2009 11:31 PM (GMT)
In response to everyone's requests, it's time we get another contest started! Therefore, the next TGC minis contest will be the Best Pre-Heresy Vehicle!
This can be anything from a Jetbike to a Fellblade - basically, if it is not an ordinary infantry or character model, and it has an engine in it, then it's probably going to be fine! :D
The winner will earn the praise and respect of their peers... and if he/she is a moderator or a member of the Loyalists or Champions membership groups then they will also win themselves a FREE copy of Fallen Angels, or a preorder of Prospero Burns from us here at The Great Crusade. :D
==========
The specific contest rules:
Entry is open to all, and you can enter more than once. However, the miniature must be new and original: you cannot enter an old mini which you have already posted on these boards in the past!
The miniature should be a vehicle, titan, flyer, mount or walker and thematically appropriate to the Horus Heresy novels and background material.
You may enter any miniatures you wish, be they GW or not. Conversions and original sculpts are also fine, of course.
When the contest closes, a voting thread will be created so everyone can decide the winner. You can vote for your own entry if you wish.
Entries must be made by posting images on this thread. Please make everyone's decisions easier with good-sized detailed pictures, as per the miniature photography tutorials on this forum.
The final deadline for entries will be
22:59 GMT on Sunday July 12th 2009
after which point this thread will be closed for posting. No entries will be accepted after this thread closes, through any medium. It is up to you to find out what local time that will be for your own country. In the UK, this will be 23:59 BST, i.e. almost midnight.
After the entry deadline, board members will have 7 days to vote for the winner. Whichever entry gets the most votes wins!
==========
The next Tempus Fugitives event is coming up fast in September, and I'd love to see what everyone else can come up with this time around.
Good luck to all!
Magos Explorator - June 1, 2009 07:42 AM (GMT)
I really hope I manage to enter this one! I've got 3 ideas I am/have been planning to build; the only question is whether I'll have time before July...
Whitehorn - June 1, 2009 08:41 AM (GMT)
Maratheus - June 1, 2009 08:55 AM (GMT)
Does it have to be painted or is the judging of this left to the voters?
ShroudFilm - June 1, 2009 10:03 AM (GMT)
Yes, dreadnoughts are walkers and therefore fine.
No, you do not HAVE to paint it - voting will decide the winner, so an AMAZING conversion will have just as good a chance... :D
So what are people planning? I've got a choice of two PH Imperial Army Landraiders which have not yet seen the light on these 'ere boards... just got to finish painting them...
Failing that, I have my Scout biker sergeant complete with Locator Beacon, which some of you saw at AOTE... or my stripped-down Leman Russ scout variant...
Decisions, decisions...
Whitehorn - June 1, 2009 10:22 AM (GMT)
I am currently working on:
Abaddon
SoH Venerable Dreadnought
Knight Warden
500 points of Daemons
Here's a clue, it's one of the above ^^
ShroudFilm - June 1, 2009 10:48 AM (GMT)
But but but... Abaddon doesn't have an engine... :P

Oh crud!
Brother-Captain Basilus - June 1, 2009 12:48 PM (GMT)
Isn't Terminator Armour basically a vehicle ? I mean c'mon, it has a engine
On a serious note;
If I have posted a mini here before, but did some changes and conversions to it, am I allowed to enter that one ?
I should only build stuff when a contest is near... now I can't even enter my Titan...damn it
Iacton - June 1, 2009 02:47 PM (GMT)
[Theo Paphitis voice] It's a silly idea. I can't see who would go for it. I'm out [/Theo Paphitis voice]
(Seriously though, bit too busy with Games Day stuff right now, so it's a no from me ;) )
ShroudFilm - June 1, 2009 02:58 PM (GMT)
BCB - I think it depends on which mini and how different it is, we can always ask people what they think.
Brother-Captain Basilus - June 1, 2009 03:06 PM (GMT)
For one it's my Night Lords Dreadnought. I've added to the base and swapped the weapons quite a bit.
ShroudFilm - June 1, 2009 03:16 PM (GMT)
I see no reason why not - those sound like big modifications to me.
You can but powst it up and see if the voting goes in your favour! :D
Jul063 - June 1, 2009 05:09 PM (GMT)
did i posted the rhino i'm working on here...should have wait....
guess if i make a second one, it does be legal as it has no tbeen shown here....
i will have to fight again my worst enemy: TIME
J - seconding the Termi as a vehicule: Tactical Dreadnought Armour!!!
Kharn - June 1, 2009 07:43 PM (GMT)
Iacton's out?!? Sounds like I might have a chance!!!
I'm going true-scale Iron Hands Dreadnaught... If I ever get around to actually making it...
And for Terminator armor, I'm sure if you add a few fuel exhausts to it, kiinda like an "archaic" look, it'll look a lot like an engine-run suit.
ShroudFilm - June 1, 2009 08:59 PM (GMT)
Just so we're clear... Terminator armour is NOT a vehicle! :P
Gagoc TheAncient - June 1, 2009 09:12 PM (GMT)
So I guess my EC Land Raider and Predator are both out, because of the PIP pics I've been posting in my Blog.
But what about my Chariot?
I've only posted WIP shots of the chariot itself, and I've done more since then.
Macewind - June 2, 2009 12:20 AM (GMT)
Im in, Ive just started a perturabo storm tank. Im scratchbuilding a malcador to be the frame of it :D
Yvraith - June 2, 2009 05:07 AM (GMT)
Depending on availability of funds, I'm in.

I would imagine they're fine as they were not finished when the contest was announced? I thought anything WIP at the time of the contest was ok.
Whitehorn - June 2, 2009 07:59 AM (GMT)
Here's my WIP ^^
Iron Corsair - June 2, 2009 12:47 PM (GMT)
If the vehicle is an APC, can we have the squad it transports be in some of the pics, or does it have to be only of the vehicle? I might enter, because I found a way to take pics and upload them to the Internet without using a digital camera!
ShroudFilm - June 2, 2009 01:47 PM (GMT)
What foul sorcery is this?!
You can include the squad in the pics, but people will be voting based on the vehicle I guess.
Iron Corsair - June 2, 2009 01:54 PM (GMT)
Disposable cameras. Where I live you can ask to get a CD with your pictures, and save them to your Hard Drive. Once there, simply upload to any image hosting site. Probably the UK has that, and other European countries....But I don't know.
Alright then, thanks.
Vredesbyrd - June 2, 2009 03:17 PM (GMT)
Depending on my ability to remove digits from orifices I may enter this one. Buckle up!

Haha, yeah we get that here too... the quality is usually terrible though! Plus you can't tell how good your photography is until you get the CD into your machine.
Whitehorn - June 2, 2009 11:15 PM (GMT)
Alright, here's a real WIP.

True, but I guess its better then nothing. :/
I might be getting a Chimera on Thursday, and if I do then I'll enter that, for sure.

Is that Tyrus? (as the base model, I mean ;) )
Magos Explorator - June 3, 2009 07:52 AM (GMT)
Looks like it to me. Good use of the model--it works well given the artwork!
Whitehorn - June 3, 2009 08:23 AM (GMT)
It began as Tyrus, correct - that seems quite obvious :)
Resculpted his kneepads, neck piece and buckle, added a load of wires, studs, and a power pack. Venerable dread head.
Not happy with the chainsword yet, may resculpt his feet. Added bolters to his hips as they look silly on his shoulders.
ShroudFilm - June 3, 2009 11:09 AM (GMT)
Very nice! Very true to the artwork.
I agree that the feet need changing - the shape still suggests that there are feet inside the sabatons at the moment...
Whitehorn - June 3, 2009 01:16 PM (GMT)
Shame the pic doesn't show his feet really.
I'm going for something like this:
ShroudFilm - June 3, 2009 03:26 PM (GMT)
IIRC the original artwork does... in the Collected Visions book.
Whitehorn - June 3, 2009 03:42 PM (GMT)
Hmm, I've had the book open on my lap all week, I'll have to check :)
Kriegersen - June 7, 2009 12:19 AM (GMT)
YEAH!!!!
I have my entry sorted, All that remains is to stick it together and paint it, till then its very much, hush hush :ph43r:
great dred btw whitehorn, realy like it ;)
looking forward to seeing what we get done here guys, my the best entry win ;)
Maratheus - June 7, 2009 08:28 AM (GMT)
I think I'll try entering this one (like I always do :P).
I do have a fluffy question though. Did the Imperium have the whole range of Superheavy tanks pre-heresy, or was it limited to Fellblades and such?
Whitehorn - June 7, 2009 09:22 AM (GMT)
ShroudFilm - June 7, 2009 11:28 AM (GMT)
In a rare burst of productivity... my entry is already nearly finished!
Gagoc TheAncient - June 16, 2009 01:55 PM (GMT)
Mine entry is, pretty much.
I can enter it now, or do a little more.
But I want to enter it now!
