Title: Sigismund's Company

Iron Corsair - June 15, 2009 02:57 PM (GMT)
Hey all,

Its been a while since I've read Horus Rising, and Mechanicum, so I was wondering, what is Sigismund's Company's color scheme? Is it yellow like the Imperial Fists, with a white shoulder pad bearing their symbol, or black with a yellow shoulder pad, bearing the Fist's heraldry?

Thanks in advanced.

I would assume they would be in yellow, like the rest of the Imperial Fists. There seems to be little evidence in the novels that the heraldry of company commanders lead to their companies not wearing their Legions' traditional armour colour and insignia, although it is likely that their Commander's personal heraldry could well be reflected somewhere on their armour. Still, I would imagine that Sigismund's company would still have worn yellow armour and worn their Legion symbol, an assumption supported here in Horus Rising (a quote from Torgaddon):
QUOTE
"But the Luna Wolves, ah me, the Luna Wolves, Sigismund, in a straight fight? Do you really think you'd have a hope? Honestly? Your yellow ragamuffins against the best of the best?"

As far as I recall, Sigismund's heraldry was the cross that became the Black Templar chapter badge. I think he repainted his armour black during the Siege of Terra when he became the Emperor's Champion; it was yellow before.

I've done my PH Imperial Fists as part of his company, and have just used yellow for the armour with black and off-white as the secondary colours (for shoulder pad trims, and so on). I've also given them the Imperial Fist symbol on their left pad, but Sisigmind's cross on their right.

any chance to have pics of this Magos?

i think it would make a great PH reference.

There's a few up in my blog (although I painted them not too long after getting back into the hobby so they're not fantastic paintjobs or photos). Here's a selection:

(I've not actually painted many of them, although I've got a terminator squad assembled, and a bunch of parts to make more models with.)

Okay, thanks guys!

@Red: Oh yeah, after I read that quote I remembered it, because of Torgaddon calling them raggamuffins. :P

@Magos: Thanks for the pic of your Marine, it helps a lot.

sorry thread necro and all... :P

is it fair to say then after readin your posts that sigismunds termies had regular shoulder pads rather than the PH ons? Theres a pic of a 'fists termie in 'collected visions' and i shows an imperial fist termie with regular pads rather than the big ones all the other leigons had

im in the process of doing my termies for the 'compliance of gedren' campaign and if any one could set me straight befor i do them wrong i would be most pleased :D

cheers
Jay

Remember that the Imperial Fists were involved in the Siege of Terra, and thus were one of three legions that got all the latest equipment towards the ends of the Heresy. My interpretation of the IF Terminator picture is that the more 'modern' Terminator suits were being introduced just before the Siege, around the same time as Mk. 7 armour, so would have been available to the loyalist Legions on Terra. If you are setting your force before the Heresy broke out, or during the early stages, I'd stick with the pre-heresy style pads - if you are setting it at the Siege of Terra you can include the modern ones.

my fists are befor the heresy so im going with the big pads (i think they look better anyway!)

so would it be advisable to keep them yellow but have 1 pad with the maltese cross and the other the fists iconography, being part of sigismunds co.?

Iron Corsair - August 20, 2009 01:11 PM (GMT)
That sounds about right. The Maltese Cross however should be on a white shouldern pad, much like the Black Templar's shoulder pad.

Hero of Istvaan - August 20, 2009 01:25 PM (GMT)
cool!

cheers for the advice I.C B)

Iron Corsair - August 20, 2009 01:37 PM (GMT)
No problem! I'm just glad I could help. B)

The Red Sorcerer - August 20, 2009 01:46 PM (GMT)
That plan works particularly well as the Maltese Cross is also (in these post-codex days at least) the accepted symbol for veterans. So as the first company, Sigismund's troops would presumaby be mostly veterans themselves, so the heraldry both marks their veteran status and the heraldry of their commander.

Magos Explorator - August 20, 2009 03:21 PM (GMT)
That's what I had been going for in the picture above, too.

Iron Corsair - August 20, 2009 05:01 PM (GMT)
Lol, I didn't even think of that!

Hero of Istvaan - August 20, 2009 05:06 PM (GMT)
fair point, but i didnt think there were space marine vets in power armour till after the heresy? coz of the lack of termi armour

Iron Corsair - August 20, 2009 05:24 PM (GMT)
Veterans were probably formed up into squads. I mean, if you have a squad of Astartes formed up into a squad already, you're not going to break them up just so another squad with younger, less experienced Astartes can have a more experienced squad leader/Sergeant.

Edited accordingly after reading Red's post.

The Red Sorcerer - August 20, 2009 05:24 PM (GMT)
Ah, but there were plenty of Veteran squads in power armour - the novels and the artwork contain numerous examples. Terminator armour was rare during the pre-heresy and heresy era as well.
