Title: Pre-Heresy Space Wolves
Description: Bulveye's 13th Company
King Fluff - July 18, 2009 01:53 PM (GMT)
as a side project to my PH Thousand Sons I decided to start a PH Space Wolves force - these two armies are designed to work together with the TS acting as gunline with armour and the SW acting as shcok troops in drop pods.
The starting point for this was a Tale of.... at our local gaming club.
Unfortunately i missed out on month 1 points as the army was unpainted in time - the problem being that all the models (except for the pods) were either scratchbuilds or conversions. This as you can imagine was a timely thing but now I have the capacity to make my marines quickly I can now progress the army at speed and get them looking good for the upcoming battles.
For month 2 we are required to add 250pts and an objctive particular to the army. My 250pts wil either be a long fang squad in a drop pod (2xHB, 2xLC) or Bulveye as a stand in for Ulrik the Slayer with 4 wolves.
It's been very difficult to make the army I want with the Codex Space Wolves restrictions but as i said earlier the SW are only one half of a larger PH force.

Where'd you get those awesome looking Mark 3 legs? Also is that a Forgeworld Mark 4 body?

Looking good so far, I like the crisp and clean paintjob you have made (especially on the drop pods!)
The Mk3 armour is looking good also!
Yvraith - July 19, 2009 09:53 AM (GMT)
Nice crisp paint job on the Drop-pods.
I like the use of red as a contrast to the dark grey.
Pssst......your dread needs a couple of arms. :ph43r:
I look forward to seeing your updates as your force progresses.
King Fluff - July 19, 2009 01:15 PM (GMT)
thanks guys for the comments....
:D dread arms are on their way....
the MK3 legs I made from a standard set of MK7 legs just shaved down the back and added GS banding with a little pipe work.
I'm currently working on MK2's which will most probably form the majority of my Grey Hunter squads.
All reds, yellows and greys still need highlighting but you get the basic idea.

Actually it's a MK3 torso - similar to the MK4 but the cables are underslung beneath the arms whereas the MK4 has cables over the top of the front armour plating
DaemonlordAbraxes - July 19, 2009 04:56 PM (GMT)
Yeah, i noticed that while looking at a Mark 4 body that i had.
Keep up the good work
Magos Explorator - July 19, 2009 05:09 PM (GMT)
Nice start to the force, and a good idea on the movement trays I think.
King Fluff - July 19, 2009 05:51 PM (GMT)
finished the arms for the dreadnought now - basically the FW pattern CC arms with two CSM heavy bolters added to the end instead of the 'hand'. The top sections are shaved down normal arm housings with a bit of plastic card and plastic rod for rivets added to the top, a little GS for filling and it's all done...
Painted pics to follow.

thanks :)
the movement trays were a kind of after thought - I've made sure the basing scheme is the same as my Thousand Sons - the original intention being to make a battle for Prospero scenic board to play out the historic battle over. Although now with the advent of planeststrike I may just make modular Prospero scenery to go on my existing battle board - not a big issue as the board is just slightly less red than the PH basing scheme I'm using.
DiSTudios - July 19, 2009 06:25 PM (GMT)
Those are some awesome figures. some of the most accurate armour mk's I have seen :)
King Fluff - July 28, 2009 08:02 PM (GMT)
been doing a little work on these guys recently - after looking at them they just didn't scream SPACE WOLF loud enough so I've been GS'ing pelts, teeth and other decorations to make them more space wolfy - also added the arms to the ven.dread with the same pelt treatment.
I've just started my 2nd HQ choice further inspired by Adrian Smith's artwork in collected visions....
Rune Priest Domar Gonnarrsson - lighning claw and runic weapon in terminator armour - last count it was about 25 pieces to make him (before GS'ing).
will post pics soon...
Commissar_Cain - July 28, 2009 09:17 PM (GMT)
Love the way youve done your dread as well, almost completely in line with the visions of heresy designs. I also love what your doing with your wolflord there, the backpole is very fluffy.
King Fluff - July 28, 2009 11:39 PM (GMT)
thanks again :)
the ven.dread is based on a forgeworld world eaters dreadnought with the front detailing shaved off and a plastic dreadnought power plant...
glad you like him - will most likely have at least 3 in the finished force as I'm not able to take tanks due to the drop pods... :(
King Fluff - July 29, 2009 09:55 AM (GMT)
pictures of Domar...

Where did you get that head it looks cool... :o
Nice job by the way with your army by the way! :)
King Fluff - July 29, 2009 01:10 PM (GMT)
thanks :)
head is the two heads from the chaos space marine terminator lord sliced in half and joined together....
*fiddly* :ph43r:

and the finished article...
King Fluff - August 11, 2009 02:00 PM (GMT)
next up for these guys....
2 thunder rhinos and a pre-heresy landraider
King Fluff - August 13, 2009 06:51 PM (GMT)
so a bit of mech support....
The Thunder Rhino (as featured in the collected visions book and the AotE campaign pack)
Nice easy conversion to do just requires some plastic card and rod, green stuff for filling and an extra rear ramp (oh and 4 banblade large exhuasts) ;)

and an interior shot with a Fenris Blood along for the ride...
ShroudFilm - August 13, 2009 07:31 PM (GMT)
Oh wow, how did I miss the update on the painted Terminator guy?!
All looking very cool - those Thunder Rhinos are apparently well worth the points. How many you doing?
King Fluff - August 13, 2009 07:38 PM (GMT)
definately two at the minute but may stretch to three or four - was perhaps going to make a saemunder too - but not to tricky a conversion for that one pretty much a vindicator with pre-heresy side plates. (oh and no big gun :P )
Kriegersen - August 13, 2009 10:10 PM (GMT)
nice work man, those rhinos are realy cool, and are very wolfy :D
keep up the good work man ;)

DaemonlordAbraxes - August 15, 2009 05:13 PM (GMT)
nice minis man, i really like this army, i hope you keep working on it!
King Fluff - August 16, 2009 09:37 PM (GMT)
thanks for the encouragement guys....
Ideally I want to take this army to the siege of terra event run by tempus fugitives so gonna have to get my skates on to get a decent sized 2000pt ish army by then
well small update - I made Bjorn the Fellhanded a while ago and lost him in a bits box before I could greenstuff him and get him painted - now is the wolftime and I had a brainstorm and realised where I'd put him - he was getting down and dirty with three wraithlords (needless to say he won) and so here he is awaiting green stuff (tomorrow) and a decent paintjob.
hope you like (WIP)

ShroudFilm - August 16, 2009 10:42 PM (GMT)
My word, those lads certainly are ginger! :D
Looking good, beware the mould lines on Bjorn though!
King Fluff - August 31, 2009 04:44 PM (GMT)
these lillte beauts managed to win me the Summer of War best painted army at my local store :D
Magos Explorator - August 31, 2009 06:11 PM (GMT)
King Fluff - September 27, 2009 02:15 PM (GMT)
Hope they get nominated for AotE: SoT :P
Pacific - September 27, 2009 08:09 PM (GMT)
Awesome stuff! Will be interested to see what you come up with for the thunder rhino, I didn't really see that many which looked that good at AoTE! I think you should physically try and fit ten marines so they are all visible through the whole in the roof :)
King Fluff - September 27, 2009 08:47 PM (GMT)
Too true.
I think the main problem with them is people just got lazy and clipped off the top, I've tried to make mine a bit different by a, removing the seats b, making the side doors invisible and c, extending the back ramp like the artwork.
I might see if i can do like FW did with the gorgon and literally glue together 10 marines to fit in the space (possibly only 9 with the driver in the cab). :P
it is all painted now but as with everything it is still waiting decals and highlighting. Will be doing a Saemunder or two aswell and a few PH landraiders.
King Fluff - October 4, 2009 10:57 AM (GMT)
so a few tit bits following the release of the new plastics....
managed to get in early to the bits sites so I have some juicy parts on their way to me.
so wip terminator squad....
still needs fur GS under the shoulder guards and possibly a face guard although i'm undecided as yet.

Bjorn the Fellhanded - redid him with bits from the orignal conversion incorporating the new plastics...

and as a little sideline I've been dabbling with admech as a support force for siege of terra.
first up is Praetorian Auxilia.

King Fluff - October 4, 2009 11:01 AM (GMT)
Oh and nearly forgot the prototype for my Mk2's is done, will be doing some Terran born Fenris hunters very similar to the luna wolves on the cover of the HH books, with the spike on the helm and the roman-esque plume for sgts, perhaps a few pelts but quite plain in the majority.

Lord_Mortirion - October 4, 2009 02:31 PM (GMT)
on your wip termie, are they termy arms or normal marine ones???

| on your wip termie, are they termy arms or normal marine ones??? |
just the normal marine ones - I've found they offer more poseability and less bulk meaning more space for strapping, fur etc.
Also have a sqaud of wolf claw armed guys planned, using marine arms with the claw from the chaos termie lord as the lighning claw - similar to the rune priest i posted earlier.
rabblerouser - October 4, 2009 11:44 PM (GMT)
Are those drop pod ramps made of resin?
