Title: CONTEST: Best Pre-Heresy Squad
Description: Deadline for submissions 6th September

ShroudFilm - July 26, 2009 10:39 PM (GMT)
In the spirit of keeping y'all on your PH toes, here we go with another quick-fire TGC forum competition - gentlemen, choose your weapons and prepare your entries for the Best Pre-Heresy Squad contest!

The guidelines for submission this time are simple - you must put together a pre-Heresy themed squad, of any race or faction, preferably 40k game-legal but as always we're open to fluff-loyal as well... ;)

The winner will earn the praise and respect of their peers... and if he/she is a moderator or a member of the Loyalists or Champions membership groups then they will also win themselves a FREE of Fallen Angels, or a preorder of A Thousand Sons from us here at The Great Crusade. :D

NB: In response to a few queries, and also taking into account the shorter preparation time for this contest, we are now changing the rules on previously-posted miniatures... you MAY post miniatures which you have shown in a 'work-in-progress' state on the TGC forums, but not miniatures which you have shown largely completed or entered for a previous contest.

==========

The specific contest rules:

Entry is open to all, and you can enter more than once. However, the finished miniatures must be new and original: you cannot enter any old minis which you have already posted in a completed state on these boards in the past!

The squad should be composed of AT LEAST THREE miniatures and thematically appropriate to the Horus Heresy novels and background material.

You may enter any miniatures you wish, be they GW or not. Conversions and original sculpts are also fine, of course.

When the contest closes, a voting thread will be created so everyone can decide the winner. You can vote for your own entry if you wish.

Entries must be made by posting images on this thread. Please make everyone's decisions easier with good-sized detailed pictures, as per the miniature photography tutorials on this forum.

The final deadline for entries will be
22:59 GMT on Sunday September 6th 2009
after which point this thread will be closed for posting. No entries will be accepted after this thread closes, through any medium, without express written permission from an administrator. It is up to you to find out what local time that will be for your own country. In the UK, this will be 23:59 BST, i.e. almost midnight.

After the entry deadline, board members will have 7 days to vote for the winner. Whichever entry gets the most votes wins!

==========

The deadline for this contest is the week before the next Tempus Fugitives AOTE event, so let's see you all killing two ptera-squirrels with one lasblast and getting those new WIP squad ideas ready for the contest too! :D

Good luck to all!

Yvraith - July 26, 2009 11:01 PM (GMT)
Nice, I should be able to get an entry in for this one.

Hmmm.... What squad to do?
Luna Wolves or Emperors Children Tactical, Catulan Reavers, or maybe a Terminator or a Command squad of either legion.

Crap I can't decide, too many options!!!

ShroudFilm - July 26, 2009 11:07 PM (GMT)
I'm very tempted to do my IA Clone Troopers... should be fun!

Failing that I have my World Eaters Berserkers, IA Veterans with Jump Packs, Penal Legionnaires, or Angron and the Devourers to choose from.

What have the rest of you got in mind?

Mabrothrax - July 26, 2009 11:41 PM (GMT)
Superb!

I'm glad I've not yet unveiled the (Alpha Legion) Terminator squad I started two days ago.

We shall meet sirs, on the hustings!

:)

Kriegersen - July 27, 2009 12:49 AM (GMT)
this gives me an excuse to bash out some Emperors Children :D

Kharn - July 27, 2009 01:02 AM (GMT)
For this comp, does it matter when we made/painted them?

I already have a 5-man squad of IH done, I might give them a little paint job to clean them up, but could I use them?

Iron Corsair - July 27, 2009 04:37 AM (GMT)
Kharn, you just stole my entry. Curse you. :P

Kharn - July 27, 2009 06:45 AM (GMT)
Ah Iron Corsair, not to worry, they're True-scale.

Unless yours are true-scale too. Now that would be quite a coincidence...

However I also have about 13 TS marines done, so I could make a squad of those guys, or I could enter my DG, Luna Wolves, Dark Angels, or even my War Hounds Unification-Era squad.

Maratheus - July 27, 2009 07:10 AM (GMT)
Aww shucks I've shown a few members of a finished squad, that means I can't enter them. <_<

Guess I'll just whip out a new one. :P

ShroudFilm - July 27, 2009 07:51 AM (GMT)
Don't forget... you can enter just 3 models if you're running short, so using newer additions from an existing squad is fine! :D

Kharn - as long as we haven't seen them finished in pics on here, that's fine.

Pacific - July 27, 2009 09:02 AM (GMT)
I was just thinking the other day that I have no fewer than 5 squads which I've only done a single member for and need finishing!

Typically I've shown photos of them all on here, although I may do a head swap or something am not sure yet..

Iacton - July 27, 2009 09:20 AM (GMT)
[Theo Paphitis voice] I'm out [/Theo Paphitis voice]

Project shush owns my soul right now and don't have enough PH models of a matching legion to pony up anything.

Good luck chaps, I'll try to vote in a timely fashion this time :ph43r:

Itkovian - July 27, 2009 09:24 AM (GMT)
I'll try and get some termis done for this - and maybe even a second squad (that's a BIG maybe...)

Kharn - July 27, 2009 09:46 AM (GMT)
Hmmm, those female Dark Elf corsair bodies are calling to me. I'm not sure if I should attempt SoS...

Whitehorn - July 27, 2009 02:27 PM (GMT)
To confirm on the forum, can we include the transport in the entry?

I am working on a 5-man squad, their transport and crew.

Fulgrim - July 27, 2009 02:58 PM (GMT)
I'll give this one a go. Not sure what yet though.

Nope, they ain't true scaled. Aren't I lucky?

I almost forgot, I got a really, really small brush yesterday, which means I can try and free-hand the IH symbol! When I do, this will be my very first Free-hand, ever.

I think I'll do a 10 man, AoBR IH squad, since that set already has some various armor types on it, so I won't have to convert too much.

ShroudFilm - July 27, 2009 03:52 PM (GMT)
You can indeed include dedicated transports.

Iron Corsair - July 27, 2009 06:08 PM (GMT)
Does your entry have to follow the army's codex? For example, can you have a three man team of Imperial Army, or would you have to have a full, ten man squad?

ShroudFilm - July 27, 2009 08:14 PM (GMT)
See above: preferably game-legal, but good fluff will be acceptable.

Someone might do a three-man AL Operative squad, for example.

Pacific - July 27, 2009 08:53 PM (GMT)
I have a plan! Mwa ha ha ha ha, mwa ha ha ha ha ha! Ahem.

Excellent! Work has begun, praise be the Omnissiah*!

That makes two of us. Mwa ha ha!

*= Perhaps a small hint as to what one of my entries is going to be?

So do I, that makes three......

Perfect!
:ph43r:

Kriegersen - July 29, 2009 01:13 PM (GMT)
hhhhhmmmm, when I get a plan officially, I will go muha ha ha, but till then...

Meh.

:D

Inquisitor Malaclypse - July 29, 2009 04:21 PM (GMT)
funny how the world works, i'm working a PH DG squad right now.

are we restricted by what codex we can use? i have PH DG army in the works using C:CSM, that's why i ask.

Kharn - July 29, 2009 06:27 PM (GMT)
I don't think so. Rules say 40k-legal, or just in-line with the fluff of the Pre-Heresy, so technically it doesn't even need to be game-legal.

ShroudFilm - July 29, 2009 07:39 PM (GMT)
Hierarchy of importance:

1) HH novels/artwork books
2) whichever Codex you want to use
3) everything else

A perfectly reasonable "squad" for the purposes of this contest would be a Primarch and four Honour Guard... or ten Skitarii in a Rhino... or three camouflaged Recon Astartes... or an Ork Warboss and seven Boyz... or twenty Imperial Army Drop-Sentinels... or five Tactical Astartes and a Remembrancer...

Just make it look good from a PH point of view.

Kriegersen - July 29, 2009 11:33 PM (GMT)
nicely put :D

killjoy - July 30, 2009 12:29 AM (GMT)
could a dreadnought and 2 servitors be ok or teck marines be ok

Whitehorn - July 30, 2009 08:35 AM (GMT)
Tech marine + servitors is a squad.
A Dreadnought isn't a squad.
A lone tech marine isn't a squad.

Go with the theme, rather than try to bend it to squeeze in exceptions. Dreadnoughts were last competition...

ShroudFilm - July 30, 2009 04:20 PM (GMT)
Aye, we already had vehicles.

Kidjal - July 31, 2009 08:19 AM (GMT)
terminator squad I think ^_^

Maratheus - July 31, 2009 08:50 AM (GMT)
Always something comes up when there's a competition here!
I'll see if I can scratch something near the deadline.

DaemonlordAbraxes - August 2, 2009 05:24 PM (GMT)
I'm gonna try for a PH Thousand Sons Assault Squad, good luck to everyone!! :D

Mara, that SUCKS, because i LOVE your work, especially your Truescale Typhon

ShroudFilm - August 2, 2009 06:38 PM (GMT)
I just put in 3 hours on my entry... looking good so far! :D

Anyone got WIP/PIP pics?

Kharn - August 2, 2009 07:05 PM (GMT)

Nope, I'm only going to post the squad once I'm done. I have practiced my IH's free-hand Iron Gauntlet on the hull of a Rhino, and I loled so hard after, because I painted right hands instead of left hands!

I did get a new brush, so I'll be painting them up soon, very soon.

ShroudFilm - August 2, 2009 10:14 PM (GMT)
I've been practicing my freehand Roman numerals today... going to have to include those on my squad entry, I think... ;)

little horus - August 2, 2009 10:22 PM (GMT)
vulkan's honour guard or ultra marines command ohh i cant choose

BigWill - August 3, 2009 05:14 PM (GMT)
Watch Out Fellas BigWill has a Plan :D
