Title: Games Workshop Mega Competition!
Description: For those registered on their site.
Gagoc TheAncient - August 3, 2009 06:34 PM (GMT)
This came up on the GW site:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/...sp?aId=3300003aIn short if you're registered on the GW website (anywhere in the world) you have been automatically entered into two competitions.
First Competition: The Hobby Centre Compo.
A Battleforce or Battalion to be won in every Hobby Centre.
You'll be entered into the one you've chosen as "My Store" when you registered on the site.
The draw is at the end of August, so ypu've got till then to register.
Second Competition: The Global Compo.
One of three prizes, entrants are those registered with games-workshop.com.
1st Prize) Trip for two to visit GW HQ, The Studio and Warhammer World, including flights, train fares and hotel accomodation.
2nd Prize) Every new product GW releases for the next twelve months.
3rd Prize) A 5,000 point game legal army of your choice from either 40K or Warhammer.
Considering where I live, I'd prefer the 2nd or 3rd Prize.
Whitehorn - August 4, 2009 09:19 AM (GMT)
1st prize does seem a bit lame, seeing the 'studio' or not.
ShroudFilm - August 4, 2009 12:04 PM (GMT)
I can imagine it'd be amazing for someone from Japan or the USA... for those of us who live 40 minutes up the road and go there every other week, snore...
BigWill - August 4, 2009 03:33 PM (GMT)
I gotta admit it would be nice to get a trip to Merry Ole England
thats probally worth a few grand.
And I can climb the rafters and refuse to come down until they start making the PH protypes that were spied a while ago.
Whitehorn - August 4, 2009 04:10 PM (GMT)
Oh I understand the costs of visiting from abroad, but it's not THAT amazing compared to saving yourself £1000 in miniatures :P
Gagoc TheAncient - August 10, 2009 06:07 PM (GMT)
I registered on the old site, back when they still had the forums.
But apparently when they updated the site they lost my details, I can't logon at all.
It's a bit of a bugger as you can only acces the WD article archives if you're registered.
NeDlol - August 11, 2009 12:16 AM (GMT)
I know what prize I'd want... 5k points of common goblins please :D
Pacific - August 11, 2009 08:10 AM (GMT)
Its a shame its not open to LoTR, otherwise there might finally be that one chance to get the legendary stone-throwing hobbit horde :D
Lord Commander Lucius - August 16, 2009 01:16 PM (GMT)
Yes, i discovered that the 5k is only in store things so no forge world or direct sales things and you have to write the army list for the 5k as well.
Gagoc: its the same with me as well. is it possible to reset or delete your profie and start again?
Battle Brother Loken - August 16, 2009 03:00 PM (GMT)
Why does 2nd and third prizes seem to blow first place away?
Hero of Istvaan - August 16, 2009 03:24 PM (GMT)
they dont blow it away, i mean yeah for us in the uk its pretty poor but think of all the players in the US and the rest of Europe...if i lived in the US id be pretty stoked at the thought of winning an all expenses paid trip to WHW! and seeing as its a global compo' thats pretty likley!
Gagoc TheAncient - September 21, 2009 08:13 PM (GMT)
GW UK have put up the results for the UK Regional Competition.
http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Custom...34a_Winners.pdfIf you haven't won, join me in Disappointment or hope you win in the International Comp.

I will join you in that disappointment.
If I was the winner it would have be the 5K legal army for me. Thing is I wouldn't know what to get. My first thought would be to add to my pitiful 1K of nids as they are my smallest army. I was also thinking Empire but it doesn't matter does it. I can only dream.
Whitehorn - October 1, 2009 11:05 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure what I would do with a free 5k army. I have enough stuff to paint to last a few years already.
Perhaps 5k of Space Wolves to flog on ebay.
Dargor - October 1, 2009 11:33 PM (GMT)
Can you imagine the 5k free Guard of Doom?I mean with 50 pts for 10 guardsmen...you would need a truck just to carry all the models home, let alone find a place to store them. :ph43r:
Gagoc TheAncient - October 14, 2009 12:48 AM (GMT)
They've announced the Grand Prize Winners.
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/...sp?aId=4900034aAnd they've got pictures of some of the local winners.
Isn't that like giving a sergeant a back-banner?
shorty - October 22, 2009 06:34 AM (GMT)
French French French....two french winners...arg.....good to have an american as one of the three otherwise i would have said...French have manipulated that Competition...to bad that american guy wasnt wise and chooses Tau....other 5000 Point Armies would have brought more damage...hmm all Metal Army....think about it smartguy !!.....
Sorry but i cant stand that...first the French invade our Gamesday and grab the golden demons (dont know the year they started invading)...good to have a squad of really good painters stopping that now....
Damn....did i say that i dont like these Frogeaters ?....
And it goes even into other hobbies as well....one sides referees giving penalties only for not french players.....
Arg enough......
That competition dont want to hear ever from it again.....
Kidjal - October 22, 2009 08:22 AM (GMT)
It was a "global" competition, and GW are a multi national company. Whats the problem?

I dont think Canadians would travel by plane to win the german gamesday...only if they are insane...or got some relatives in france...
But its good to hear that even the americans got problems with guys coming over the borders and triing to get demons from other countries...
I think thats not fair of having an national gamesday (the gamesday of your country or for the states the gamesday for you state) and there the national Golden Demon Challenge and then some foreigner invading and taking that National trophy as their own into their country...
the germans learned out of that problem and now they are invading too...but i think its a shame...
National is national and should remain national...They should make one International one and there you have the right to prove yourself if you have the guts to win an international golden demon...otherwise...no way....
Whitehorn - October 23, 2009 07:50 AM (GMT)
What is 'your country' shorty? I'll make note to avoid it if that's the feeling towards us invading foreignors :D
Iacton - October 23, 2009 08:06 AM (GMT)
I think that the various Golden Demons around the globe are regularly contested as much by foreign artists as home nationals, and good on them for doing so.
This year's UK winner was the 1st one for several years, with previous claimants coming from Spain and Scandinavia. We have the slightly ironic cases of Russians winning in the US, Poles winning in Germany and French winning in the UK...
All of these competitions are open worldwide and should be treated as such. The UK Sword is probably rightly considered to be the pinnacle of the Golden Demon merry-go-round, but that in no way should belittle the quality of a win in any other country.
On the gaming side, well I can't comment, but in the end you're all playing the same game by he same rule set. If someone picks a better army but has bad dice on the day, well then that's poor luck. If someone picks a better army and gets good dice, well then lucky for them, regardless of their nationality....
Except for those dreadful Venezuelans. Awful cheats, terrible losers too..... allegedly :P ;)
Kidjal - October 23, 2009 08:22 AM (GMT)
...and then there was platoon!
Seriously though, with the high British winners showing this year, doesnt that put pay to the "foreigners invading" thing? PB proved its a matter of making a concentrated effort to pull a community together and up the standard through co-operation and support. Other national Demons could obviously take a lesson :)
Whitehorn - October 23, 2009 08:37 AM (GMT)
I really don't care where anyone comes from. If anything I detest my own countrymen more than anyone else, because they live in my (our) country and they irritate me on a daily basis.
Winning any of these competitions is a personal feat. Yes many people have national pride, but country vs country animosity is just daft when taken beyond a bit of friendly jest.

Join me on the front line and meet the cackholes of Britain :(

it's funny how things are considered differently,
the whole story started during 4 years ago when Team Montreal invited 3 french guys to join them at the GD Toronto, results, the Slayer and half of the demons went back either to Montreal or France/Belgium. Back then, even the Canadians felt spoiled that french speaking people could paint better than them....
The year after Team Montreal went to GD Chicago and some of us went to LA and Baltimore as well, same kind of results....US people felt even worth than canadians/french can paint better than them....
So what....as Iacton say the competition is open to whoever want to participate after that, that's your level and your piece that wins not your nationality
On the other end, French guys have been the motor to pushing the limits of miniature painting in the last 10 years, just compared the results of GD's and you'll see. UK GD, as Iacton said, is considered as the best so it's normal that best painters from all over the world try to enter and win something there.
Beside that Spanish Team and French Connection started a good way to progress and be better each and every year, now we have at least a team per country/city, in the US there's Team Montreal, T.N.A, and Team Canada....and don't think there's war of some sort between us...Team Montreal and T.N.A organized jointly the boot and demos this last year at Toronto and Chicago, and after the competition, all together went on party.
And to Shorty, actually, we have at leat one member of Team Montreal doing each year GD France and GD UK....

Awsome paint job. Any chance of him doing any PH Fists?
Iacton - October 23, 2009 03:35 PM (GMT)
Highly unlikely. Here's a gallery of his work -
