Yes friends, the first ever official TGC event is now confirmed!

==========
The Great Crusade: The Compliance of Gedren Prime
23rd-24th October 2009

@ The Games Shop, Aldershot, Hampshire UK

Events to include:
- Themed 40k mini-campaign, written in conjunction with HH authors!
- Special 'Dead by Dawn' nightfight invasion scenarios
- Pre-Heresy Painting Competition
- Horus Heresy CCG games
- The Great Crusade PH Pub Quiz! With extra-special prizes...
- ...and an extra-special guest... ;)

Obviously, coming along and watching/taking a look around will be free! Participation in the 40k events will be £10.00 for both days or £7.00 for just the Saturday, or for Champions/ Loyalists/Moderators it will be £8.00 or £6.00 respectively.

We can cater for a maximum estimated 32 players, and we will try to tailor the event to your armies as much as possible. All in all, it's looking like it will be a very special weekend for all you pre-Heresy fanatics out there!

Everyone who takes part will receive a special PH gift from The Games Shop, and for those who play in the 'Dead by Dawn' games there will be a few limited edition special bits available... first-come-first-served, as always.

==========

Accommodation and Food
There is a limited selection of local hotels, but we have sorted out a special rate for the Friday night especially for TGC Champions, Loyalists and Moderators. This will be £20.00 per person and although you may end up sharing a room, you will each get a real bed rather than just crash space on a floor or chair...!

Now, this is STRICTLY limited in numbers, so we must assign places on a first-come-first-served basis. Please reply to this thread to CONFIRM that you would definitely like an accommodation space, and that you are willing to pay for it in advance. If we run out very quickly, we may be able to get a few more rooms... I think the hotel owners aren't taking us too seriously until they see the cash!

The following spaces are assigned, and those in bold are confirmed and paid for. If you ask for a space and do not pay, then it may be offered to someone else without prior notice. [/landlord voice]

1: ShroudFilm
2: Titus Pullo
3: Itkovian
4: H-Gate
5: Wolf Lord Mjolnir
6: Mabrothrax
7: Pacific
8: Apologist
We also have the option to book 4 more spaces, but this may involve further sharing - PM me for details.

While visiting the shop, we found an excellent Chinese-Indian-Thai buffet restaurant called 'AM Bar' - it's £10.99 for all you can eat, including starters and desserts, and they are fully licensed for alcohol too. Unless there are any major objections, we'll probably have a big social TGC meal there...

==========

The WH40K mini-campaign consists of three linked games which have been written in consultation with two of the Horus Heresy authors (who will be named on the day... ;) ) and should not considered a "tournament" as such, but rather a storytelling event. Although only semi-canonical, this will be a great exploration of what might have occured at a key time in the history of the Great Crusade, and hopefully it will be a lot of fun for all involved!

Download a brief history of the Gedren system HERE.

We are hoping that players will be able to use the standard Space Marine and Imperial Guard Codex books (including variants like Blood Angels and Space Wolves) except that no unique personality characters may be taken - this is the living history of the 31st Millennium! It is recommended that the young Primarchs (should you wish to use them) be represented by a 'Chapter Master' with suitable upgrades, and be limited to ONE per army.

Librarians MAY be taken, but are limited to ONE per army. At this early stage of the Great Crusade, sorcery was tolerated but not widespread.

There has been some question over "how PRE-Heresy" your models need to be, in order to take part... basically, in order to let as many people take part as possible, we are willing to adopt a fairly liberal "counts-as" policy on armour MKs, weaponry etc. Doubtless, many of our members will have flawlessly pure-PH armies and this will look great, and for everyone else I just hope we can tempt you to include a few conversions or a special paintjob here and there. :)

Please post up what you are likely to be playing on the day. So far we have the following armies confirmed:

ShroudFilm - Imperial Army
Titus Pullo - Imperial Army
H-Gate - Imperial Army

Hero of Istvaan - Imperial Fists
Lucias - Blood Angels
Mabrothrax - Alpha Legion
Wolf Lord Mjolnir - Space Wolves
Itkovian - Iron Hands/Morlocks
The Buzz - World Eaters
Velcona - Salamanders
Pacific - World Eaters
Dave the Brush - Dark Angels
Ray - Space Wolves (13th Co)
Simon - Space Wolves

'Dead by Dawn: The Invasion Begins' WH40K Nightfighting
Friday 20:30 - 23:00

Imperial expeditionary forces scout out the key invasion sites of Gedren Prime under cover of darkness - this will be the first time that players see the battlezone, and this is their only chance to level the playing field! Take out defences and strategic assets, and soften up the enemy for the main invasion force.

This will be standard 1000pt WH40K with a difference - all games will be played in near-darkness and against unknown foes, so players are advised to bring a torch and/or laser sights! Each table will have an attacker and defender objective which will be made known just before deployment, and the Imperial players must map the battlefield as accurately as possible for their commanders.

Space Marine armies will be representing the invaders, and Imperial Guard armies will be defending. Night fight rules will be in effect for the duration of the game, and a debriefing session will allow generals to confer over their recon notes and plan for the invasion a-proper the next day...

'The Compliance of Gedren Prime' WH40K Planetstrike
Saturday 09:30 - 12:30

From the strategium of their flagship, two of the twelve known Primarchs - still young and eager to please their father - begin the compliance of the human planet below. A coalition of all twenty Astartes legions has come together in a great display of unity, and each must play their part in what is to come: invasion!

Using intelligence gathered by the scout forces, the Primarchs will orchestrate the attack from orbit - each player leads an army of 500pts to fight alongside their allies, and aside from a single compulsory Troops choice this can be anything from the codex that you wish, subject to the normal Force Organisation Chart maximum limits. A huge multiplayer Planetstrike will then rage over every battlezone, with bonuses and penalties dictated by the outcome of the 'Dead by Dawn' games.

However, a dark secret has been kept on this world, and when revealed it will shake the Legions Astartes to their very core...

'My Brother's Keeper' WH40K Apocalypse
Saturday 14:30 - 17:30

As the implications of recent events become apparent throughout the system, the invasion of Gedren Prime seems set to succeed or fail based on the actions of the few heroic generals still operating on the surface. In the Emperor's name - death, or glory!

All hint of subtle strategy has vanished, and the opposing armies clash desperately across the ravaged landscape. Standard 1500pt games of WH40K rage across what remains of the cities and forests of this once noble planet, and their outcomes will decide how the story ends. Where possible, players will be grouped into doubles games to encourage brotherly co-operation in the face of this new threat.

Team Pre-Heresy's Painting Competition
Saturday all day

Presented by TPH and The Games Shop, TGC are very excited to announce the FIRST EVER (as far as we can tell!) Pre-Heresy Painting Competition! Entry is open to all PH enthusiasts and is completely free, and we hope to see the best PH painters out there competing for a coveted 'Golden MK4' trophy... ;)

Entries will be accepted in the following categories:
1) Single Miniature
2) Squad
3) Vehicle or Walker
4) PRIMARCH!

Unlike TGC forum contests, you MAY enter a miniature which you have used in previous competitions etc, so people out there probably know the level of competition we're likely to see!

The winners will be judged not only on general painting and converting standards, but also on how well their entry sticks to the pre-Heresy fluff and artwork. So hint-hint, avoid the MK7s, guys.

At this time, we cannot comment on the possibility of some kind of fantastical gladiatorial showdown between the various Primarch miniatures using TF rules. No sir. No comment.

More info coming soon...

The Great Crusade's Pre-Heresy Pub Quiz!
Saturday 13:00 - 14:00

Only open to participants in the 40k campaign events, this quiz has been devised by the biggest geeks... ahem, I mean "fluff experts"... in the world. In teams or flying solo, test your knowledge of the Horus Heresy novels, the background and characters of the Warhammer 30,000 universe, and of course the rules of the game itself! From the Unification Wars to the Siege of Terra: how much do you actually know? Prizes for the winner/s, of course!

More info coming soon...

We will update this thread with more official information as we get it - watch this space!

Yvraith - August 12, 2009 06:32 AM (GMT)
I'd be there with bells on, if only I wasn't living on the other side of the planet! <_<

Sounds like its going to be a cool event, shame I can't be there!

Nice Poster too Shroud! :D

Itkovian - August 12, 2009 07:24 AM (GMT)
Sign me up, it sounds like fun! I'd be bringing a Deathwing army (of the Iron Hands variety...)

Apologist - August 12, 2009 08:10 AM (GMT)
Coo, awesome!
What sort of army would be most appropriate to the event?

H-Gate - August 12, 2009 09:14 AM (GMT)
Officially sign me up too!

(Had to move my holiday so I could attend this event... thats commitment to the cause!!!!)

Mabrothrax - August 12, 2009 09:50 AM (GMT)
Sign me up baby!

10 weeks to compete a 1500 point army... should be easy, so long as no one shows me shiny things, pretty ladies, or gives me too much Guinness ;)

Pacific - August 12, 2009 10:44 AM (GMT)
So basically you just need to hide yourself away in a cave Mabro ^_^

Has any thought been given to the rule sets we are using yet? Would be nice if I could use the Blood Angel list for my World Eaters!

Itkovian - August 12, 2009 11:43 AM (GMT)
Quick question: Are Librarians allowed?

Wolf Lord Mjolnir - August 12, 2009 03:44 PM (GMT)
I had better sign up to this.

What codices will we be using? Tempus ones? Please don't deny me my Wulfen!

Mjol

ShroudFilm - August 12, 2009 04:49 PM (GMT)
We're just looking at codex requirements now... I think in the interests of not having to supply all the casual local 40k players with TF ones, we will most likely require tournament-legal armies made from an official codex, but counts-as is fine.

At the moment we are gearing the scenarios for Imperial Guard (Gedren natives) and all different Space Marine lists (expeditionary fleet) but this may change to allow more races.

Librarians are not allowed... to begin with... ;) Bring one if you like, but don't factor it into your actual army list.

Itkovian - August 12, 2009 05:42 PM (GMT)
Ah shoot. Fair enough, luckily, a chaplain costs the same. I'll still bring the librarian though, in case it's needed.

ShroudFilm - August 13, 2009 07:14 PM (GMT)
A few major updates in the first post.

H-Gate - August 13, 2009 08:08 PM (GMT)
This all looks excellent... starting to really look forward to it and i know next to no details yet!

Shroud - Do you have any very rough ideas when we'll get to know more about what armies we can take, sizes of games etc?

Thats also a great deal on the accomodation if you can get it... count me in for that and the social too (you really had me sold on "licensed"!!!)

Mabrothrax - August 13, 2009 10:40 PM (GMT)
Great news in the update! I'm really fired up to get my Champion status sorted :)

Hope the accommodation deal works out!

Itkovian - August 14, 2009 06:31 AM (GMT)
Looks good to me! Very interested in the accomodation deal too.

Ilmarinen - August 14, 2009 08:23 AM (GMT)
I'm interested! Whether I can attend depends mainly on how many points I need to have ready.

ShroudFilm - August 14, 2009 09:45 PM (GMT)
More info posted.

'Dead by Dawn' confirmed at 1000pts.

Hero of Istvaan - August 15, 2009 03:09 PM (GMT)
i live in aldershot and ive just got back from talking to the new owner of the game shop and this sounds awsome! im so up for this weekend so officially count me in! not sure what legion im going to paint my marines in yet im considering imperial fists but likeing the idea of using a heritic legion pre-chaos!

DaemonlordAbraxes - August 15, 2009 05:09 PM (GMT)
Hey, could we get something like this set up in America or even Canada?

Hero of Istvaan - August 15, 2009 09:46 PM (GMT)
Do any of you guys that are coming know which legions you are using yet?
As i want to do somthing original!

I mean no-one wants to turn up and see a mostly PH world eaters or ultrasmurfs!

DaemonlordAbraxes - August 15, 2009 11:56 PM (GMT)
Go with Thousand Sons, or Raven Guard, i dont think that anyone here has ever done a Raven Guard army

Itkovian - August 16, 2009 03:57 AM (GMT)
There are some nice Raven Guard squads floating about in the depths of the modelling, painting and artwork forum.

Welcome aboard HoI! Personally, I'm doing Iron Hand Morlocks. Generally though, it's hard to consider any of the Legions an "original" undertaking... Just paint them in the scheme that appeals the most to you. If there are several of certain Legions, it just means that more of them were in range to answer the muster for the Compliance...

Hero of Istvaan - August 16, 2009 09:51 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the imput guys!!

I was lookin through my 'collected visions' and i really like thr PH thousand sons but the only problem is we cant have librarians!

my misses rekons i should go with imp' fists but im not sure how i would do the conversions to make my normal marines PH any ideas??

Mabrothrax - August 16, 2009 10:50 AM (GMT)

If you take a look through the Tutorials, Blogs and general Painting forums you'll find all you need and more. Regardless, choose something that inspires you, and, assuming you want to be at the Gedren event, that you can achieve in a couple of months.

My Alpha Legion are coming along in leaps an bounds, looking forward to seeing them in action alongside and against everyone else's forces. :)

Hero of Istvaan - August 16, 2009 12:37 PM (GMT)
cheers mabro!

Ive decided to go with the 'fists' after all, I dunno, theres just something about bright yellow space marines that appeals to me! lol

I will deffinatly be there as I live 5 mins from The Game Shop! Do we know yet if it be pay on the day, or can i go down there and pay on monday?

Also do we know if the different games will have different army lists or will there be a master list broken down for smaller games?

the buzz - August 16, 2009 10:20 PM (GMT)
Pay on the day my friend !!

ShroudFilm - August 16, 2009 11:19 PM (GMT)
Details updated - clarification on permitted Codex lists, points values, Librarians and Primarchs.

Hero of Istvaan - August 17, 2009 09:45 AM (GMT)
cheers rhys, and shroud for the update if i had known that yesterday i would have taken thousand sons insted of my imperial fists!! lol

is it 3 seperate lists for the 3 different games or is it 1 master list used over the whole campaign to be broken down into smaller armies for the 3 games?

Itkovian - August 17, 2009 09:56 AM (GMT)
Hmm... 500pts Deathwing is going to be hard - 1 squad and Belial. Ouch. How many players will there be on each side of the Planetstrike mission?

Hero of Istvaan - August 17, 2009 10:20 AM (GMT)
belial? he wasnt even born at the time of the heresy! lol and wasnt the deathwing formed after the heresy?

Itkovian - August 17, 2009 10:48 AM (GMT)
He's Gabriel Santar really, but I'm using Deathwing rules to represent the Morlocks (FMs terminator lunys...).

I assume the prohibition on "named characters" wouldn't apply to either Belial or Sammael, as they are more army-customisation tools than actual characters, so to speak... Or would that be a no-no, Shroud?

ShroudFilm - August 17, 2009 11:20 AM (GMT)
I'm not familiar with them - expand? Someone asked if they could use Lysander counts-as Perturabo and we decided no... better to have a Chapter Master with similar equipment and have these fledgling heroes write their own tales of greatness rather than rely on spanky special rules. :D

As for the 3 armies - you can have whatever you like. You can bring completely different armies for each game, or the 1500 can be your 1000 and 500 together, it's completely up to you! All we ask is that you stick to the same Codex and Legion for all three, to keep a common theme.

Itkovian - August 17, 2009 11:30 AM (GMT)
Belial allows you to field terminator squads as Troops as well as Elites, and gives you the option of a Deathwing Assault - half you're termi squads that are in reserve may deep strike on the first turn - same as the drop-pod rules. His profile matches a Captain from the same codex (apart from the termi armour and not having an Iron Halo) and he has three weapon options - master-crafted power sword and storm bolter, double lightning claws and thunder hammer & storm shield.

Sammael is much the same, profile-wise, but can either be taken on a jet bike or in a land speeder. He also allows Ravenwing squadrons to be taken as troops. I know a few people who use him (or used to) to represent white scars.

ShroudFilm - August 17, 2009 11:34 AM (GMT)
If you want to do Morlocks then yes, go with Belial counts-as Santar... it sounds like the army wouldn't work without it! :D

We may commandeer you for storytelling purposes though... ;)

Yvraith - August 17, 2009 11:36 AM (GMT)
Belial allows Deathwing Terminator squads to count as Troops and Elites.
He is basically the same as a DA Company Master in Termi Armour with a Master Crafted Power Weapon, other than that. (Costs slightly more though)

Also one Deathwing squad can be upgraded to have a Standard Bearer & Apothecary.

Sammael has an uber-jetbike, iron halo, Adamantine mantle, master-craft Power weapon and allows one Ravenwing squad to be upgraded to a command squad of sorts (standard bearer & apothecary upgrades)

Also allows Ravenwing squads to count as Troops as well as Fast Attack.

ShroudFilm - August 17, 2009 11:38 AM (GMT)
We need an idea of numbers, guys - please only vote in the poll if you are definitely coming or hope to come.

Itkovian - August 17, 2009 11:43 AM (GMT)
I don't mind being commandeered... :D

I'm confirmed - I have the days booked off work and will be buying the train tickets at the end of them month.

Hero of Istvaan - August 17, 2009 12:09 PM (GMT)
im confirmed, i live to close to miss out!

ShroudFilm - August 17, 2009 12:41 PM (GMT)
Hoping for confirmation on accommodation deal by the end of today...

H-Gate - August 17, 2009 04:09 PM (GMT)
Just posted my 'yes' up and will definately be attending.

As it seems like a horde of Loyalist generals from this forum will be attending i'll be taking my Imperial Guard army to proudly defend Gedren Prime against the invaders (and their false-emperor... too early? Damn!).
