So, I decided to do a Death Guard army...and while I was doing research, I found that the Death Guard had a relatively small motor pool. So, I decided to base a list off what Mortarion's finest did use in their motor pools. May I present Captain Serris's 19th Company's Armored Column(using the C:SM):

HQ:
200-Captain Serris(Sicarius Counts-as)

Troops:
255-Primus Squad: Ten-man tactical with a meltagun, plasma cannon, power fist. Rhino with extra armor
255-Secundial Squad: As above
255-Tertius Squad: As above
255-Quatarius Squad: As Above

Elites:
130-Honored Brother Tamen the Gruff: Dreadnought with a plasma cannon and extra armor
130-Honored Brother Sallo the Hardy: Dreadnought with a plasma cannon and extra armor
475-"The Reaper's Scythes" Terminator Squad with a Cyclone Missile Launcher and a Land Raider transport.

not a bad list.

however, i would not use plasma cannons for this list; i'm assuming it's a pre-Heresy list and plasma is pretty rare at this point.

also, the PC is not as good a weapon as you're paying points for a weapon that doesn't stand to pop Land Raider armor (and equivalents) and has a smaller range.

ditto for the plasma cannons on the Dreads, go with a standard load out for them. i would recommend scrouging for points on the Dreads; we know the SM had drop pods in the Heresy era, and there is at least one pic of marines using a drop pod.

it will give your short range melta more versatility by dropping near monstrous creaturs and armor.

also, if you go with all these meltas, consider using a counts as Vulkan He'stan for twin linked goodness.

But if I took Vulkan, it wouldn't be a Death Guard army, would it? As for the plasma cannons, I might drop them, but as they're a 5 point upgrade and my community is MEQ/non-mech-heavy, it works in the area.

so use a counts as Vulkan like you're using Sicarius; your Sicarius doesn't make your list an Ultramarine army. :rolleyes:

if you're up agains MEQ's then the PC is not a horrible idea, but considering that 5th edition 40K is Coverhammer, i don't think spending 5 points on a weapon that could kill one of my marines is worth if an opposing MEQ is in cover.

S7 AP2 means almost nothing when you have a 4+ cover save.

i'd still opt for the missile launcher; it may not be as effective against MEQ's but it's an automatic upgrade, and you won't accidentally kill yourself with it.

I thought that Plasma Cannons having a blast template negated cover?

not quite; IIRC blast and ordnance blast templates still have to take armor saves.

flamer templates negate them, which if you think about it, makes sense.

Overall, I think the list doesn't look too bad, you're not going to be running short on AT weapons any time soon, especially with the Meltas, and the Plasma Cannons on the Dreads, and in the squads.

A plasma cannon features in the first battle scene of the entire HH series...

The list looks good, but I would be interested to see what you could fit in there if you replaced all the tactical plasma cannons with the free missile launcher...

i never said that it didn't exits, i just said it was rare.

one or two in an army, or just equipping the Dreads with PC cannons would make more sense instead of putting plasma on every thing.
